Let's dive deep into #watercolor #glazing techniques! In this video I will explain for to building transparent layers of pigment to modify values and the color appearance of the final painting, creating deeper tones and sometimes changing the colors completely! Enjoy:)
Anna, your painting is very beautiful and you are a clear, generous teacher. Also, your speaking voice is extraordinary. I wonder if you sing. I detect raw talent there as well.
I want to honor my mothers memory by attempting to paint a peony from her flower garden she planted more than 60 years ago, and with this wonderful video I believe l now have the instruction and confidence to make it a reality...thank you (new subscriber btw). 💙💐
Thank you so much ❤️ I hope you enjoy the process and I am glad this was helpful to youo. Most of the flowers I paint are from my Mother's garden :) Have a wonderful day!
I have no idea why the RUclips algorithm recommended this video, but I am very happy it did! Very interesting, clear, and informative, without being overly long! Subscribed right away. Thank you for this!
The algorithm selected ANNA'S CHANNEL- BECAUSE ANNA'S CONTENT IS INCREDIBLE- I GUESS WORD GETS AROUND FAST= LOTS OF LIKES, SUBSCRIBE 100% SHARE IT. RUclips AND ANNA ARE BOTH TWO THUMBS UP IN MY BOOK! THANKS TO YOU ANNA
I had never considered how using a blow dryer affects colors. Also, lightness of strokes never occurred to me, which I guess it should have. This is a lot to digest, but very informative, and seeing the process and the result helps a lot.
I always suspected the heat affects the pigments and recently saw a demo that proves it seriously affects the blue of all things for some reason. I am not generally in a rush so end up drying 1 half finished painting while working on another so I never feel like I need to use a blow dryer:) Thank you as always for your thoughtful feedback. Have a wonderful week ahead!
Wow! It's a delicate and artistic watercolor. The 21st year is full of happy days! Best wishes for a Happy New Year! In the 21st year, I see you often with a good picture!
Thank you so much, Anna, for your incredibly clear, beautiful and inspiring videos. What a beautiful, generous soul you are. Your tutorials continue to help me enormously. 🙏
I am so happy to have found you. you go into such detail as if you really, really are just sharing your knowledge with us. so many just post a few snips, leaving out all the details such as color, technique, etc so you have to pay for more info. in a pandemic, where money is tight, i truly appreciate you.
The best in-depth tutorial I’ve watched in a while. Give me life sis, I’ve added this to my playlist. I’m getting glove 🧤 and that cute brush holder. Keep up the amazing work my fellow Canadian 👏🏾😍🥰
amazing lesson on glazing Anna! I don't think I've ever waited 2h for the first layer to dry properly. Maybe that's the problem I always have with paint lifting from the page XD
I think I have watched this video three times. Learn something each time. Love to layer and glaze and your explanations are clearing a lot of glitches for me. Many thanks. I took many notes. The “ let it dry for two hours” really made me sit up and take notice. It was an aha moment for me… thank you. I have often worried about using a cadmium for base layer, but I think with a long dry time it works! Going to experiment. Those tubes have been left in the bottom of my paint box for years!
Thank you Alison - I am glad you are finding them helpful 💜 I too sometimes “rediscover” old pigments and find new uses with a bit of experimentation 😊
Brilliant Anna! The detail you provide is incredible. I’m so grateful I found your channel. This has built on what I learned from Steve at The Mind of Watercolor. He did a great beginning video on Glazing. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you!
This is amazing! Very detailed presentation! Great techniques ! What a spectacularly done masterpiece! Awesome display of perfection! Absolutely love it ! Keep up the good work! Thank you for sharing!!!... 👍+🔔
I as well love your beautiful voice ….very sweet and kind hearted….and your instruction is so easy to follow. I love how you explain the techniques and why they are so important…like letting the surface dry completely and not using a hair dryer and why. Your video is relaxing yet energizing as I want to go paint right now!🤣 thank you 💕Cathy from Montana
That’s so good to hear 😊 Thank you Cathy - if the video inspired you to paint, my job is done 💕💕💕💕💕 I hear all the time that watercolors are difficult and I am doing my best to clarifying techniques and encourage artists to experiment, create, and most importantly enjoy the medium 🥰 have a wonderful day 🌞
Thank you so much for an awesome video! Hugely informative! There’s so much more to learn about painting than most people think. I am just one year into my journey and almost daily I find new things to learn. Your videos are very professional and I am grateful for them!!💕
You are so talented and your voice is so soothing!!! I love it!!! You are very knowledgeable and an amazing teacher, thank you!!🥰💞 Now if I can actually go do this, I have been wanting to do some painting, but it's been over 10 years..I am lazy..but you give me inspiration!! Thank you!!
You're super helpful with so much insight and beyond exquisite artwork 🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍 thanks for sharing, I appreciate the effort it takes to put these tutorials together!
This is fantastic tutorial as it's the first for me to know about glazing chart, different pigmentation to use and the cool & warmth effects. Thank you! I do follow you in SkillShare but glad you have a RUclips channel.
This is very beautiful and awesome painting. This is my first tutorial with glazing and I thank you. I've done some glazing but nothing like you do. My glazing was at the #3 layer and you do all the Way to #5 Wow thats amazing 👏. I have a hard time choosing the different color process in the layers of the shadows. I'm going to try the plaid pattern of my colors like you did at the end and that might help me. Thank you so much ♥️. Janie FLORIDA.
Thank you Janie! 💙 I am happy to hear this was helpful. I find 3 layers is generally enough, but 4-5 gives more depth - especially if you have strong shadows ☺️ have a wonderful day!
Hi Anna, I think it might be a Camelia (in the rose family). Thanks for the in depth tutorial 👍 your work is exquisite 👌😊 kind regards Mary from Australia 😎
I have watched this video a few times and it really has some great instruction and teaching techniques as well as painting. I love botanicals as well and have favorites that I come back to. Surprisingly many are the same. If you haven’t tried Sennelier’s form of quinacridone rose or “Rose Madder Lake PV19 it is gorgeous and does not dull down like DS and it quickly became my favorite after comparing them. Since I love birds also it can be difficult for the composition to look realistic so it is something that I am always working on. Thank you again for sharing your suggestions. 😊
This is SO good I may have to revisit multiple times to absorb. I thoroughly enjoyed this even as a beginner and Im definitely going to try to incorporate this thinking in my florals going forward. Thank you so much. x
Your gorgeous voice accent and pacing in how you teach your techniques are so lovely to watch- I’ve learnt so much from just this video- subscribed. Watercolours scare me but the way you teach makes me want to learn how to paint correctly and with control in watercolour. Thank you again beautiful work!
Wow. I have to compliment you. Not only is the information about painting, etc., great, but the presentation is wonderful, too. It really shows the hard work you have put into your videos. Thank you.
I believe those are red ribbon roses. I used to have some and they are fun. If you prune them often (few times a week if I remember) they will explode in healthy blooms and I love all the petals falling and adding color to the ground!
This is wonderful - there's so much information here as always. I also highly recommend your Skillshare classes because you go even deeper into color selection and talk about how different values work together. I almost never used violets, but now I use Winsor Violet in every painting (primarily landscapes). Also, your skinny Colour Shaper (not the wedge or chisel) and Tombow eraser are excellent tools. Thank you for sharing so generously!
Oh thank you so much Beth! I am SOOOO happy to hear you are enjoying the tools and exploring new colors:))))))) And thank you for spreading the word about my classes! Really appreciate it- these days kids are not at school and I can't work much [unless i work nights] so every view helps!

Very informative! Thank you so much. So much I know I will listen over and over.
OMG ‼️ I have practiced glazing, but not to this degree, but believe me, I'm going to start.
Go for it Diane! Enjoy :)))

I am doing a watercolor peony right now too, with memories of my dear mum too!
I am sorry for you loss. Stay strong 💪!
...a powerful combination of logic, clarity, and artistic sensibility...
