For me it seemed like the focus was more about the lyrics, the hook, the melody, these last few singles have sounded more like vehicles to remind people of Richie's guitar chops. I love his guitar playing, but it is his vocal chops that really hit home for me.

Fucking insanely brilliant genius!!! - and his singing voice is stunning - I usually can't stand lyrical work but he's really perceptive in what he writes - and his fucking VOICE - he actually SINGS instead of hitting the notes or shouting/screaming them - motown/soul/funk inflection - so much energy/feeling - he totally embarassed Brett in Poison and I've seen him cut through Eric Martin's voice in some acoustic Mr Big cuts - and he doesn't even try! My shredder list is up for serious rethink!
