I tried this 2x and still had a leak behind the handle when I reassembled everything. Then I realized that when you reinsert the stem you have to twist it back into the assembly before replacing the nylon nut gizmo. This is not shown or mentioned in the video. Otherwise a great video as it was the only one I could find with this stem assembly with the rubber umbrella like at the end.
I am following your very helpful video to repair mine. I am at 1:40 time point in your video, but can't go beyond that. The valve stem isn't coming out even after turning and pulling with a wrench. Any suggestion? Spray WD40?
I would say make sure you can spin it as it might be hung up on the threads. In a not so graceful way. turn the water on and see if It will pop out. It's outside so shouldn't make too much of a mess. But I'd be prepared to replace the whole thing in case it doesn't go back together
Thanks for the video. Just a suggestion. Try commenting thru the video about what you are doing and what the parts are you are installing rather than just music playing. It would be a little more informative. I need to do this to mine now.
If there isn't anything to grab on with pliers it's tough. You can try taking a flat head screwdriver and tapping it in the direction it spins. Which that packing nut is reverse threaded so spins the opposite way
My handle I believe is stripped. Now my hose is on full blast but contained by the nozzle at least. My dang water shutoff is ancient and I fear I may break it if I screw with it. Tell me this. Even though I have the water on and flowing to the faucet. Can I take the handle off? I'm hoping to be able to use pliers to turn the thing myself so the water shuts off. Unless that is a bad idea and water will explode out of it the moment I take the handle off?
Obviously after using the pliers. Go buy a new handle and put it on. Assuming this is even an option. I've watched like 50 of these videos and none of them give this information. The repair is NEVER just for the handle so they always say to turn the water off before doing it. Am i the only person i nthe world who had a handle go bad.
@@dave_adamson I am having a problem getting the knob off to access the packing nut. The hydrant leaks from the packing with a hose attached. I've tried penetrating oil, even an impact driver, and I still can't get the knob screw to come loose. Any suggestions? I'm about ready to just cut the knob off and rebuild the whole thing.
@@dave_adamson Prier actually used SOFT SOLDER to connect the rod into the rear threads. (AM I PISSED) If you turn just a little too hard the rod will come out of the thread tightener. Got any tips on how to get that thread with the washer out? This hose bibb is in the worst spot to change out imaginable. I'm totally dreading doing it again in a tight crawlspace. Any tips on how to get the threads with the washer out?? I am so pissed at the engineer that cheaped out an decided to use soft solder on the thread close off i could....> Please... anybody?
That is what prevents water from flowing backwards when the spigot is open. Saw the water is shut off inside while that spigot it open. That would stop the water from being pulled back into the house. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you, this was perfect!

Thank you. It was an early video and learning a lot about editing
Is this considered a "mansfield" style Prier Spigot?
Correct
Why not just replace all them old parts out ????
They looked good didn't feel the need. Probably should have but this was on my house so wasn't worried about a being called back
I have the Mansfield 500 My packing nut is broke how can i remove it

If the spigot is similar to this model you can take the handle off no problem with the water on.

That's about all you can really. I don't have any tricks with that. If I can't get them apart I will replace the whole thing if it's a accessable

What exactly does that black boot type thing on the end where the rubber washer goes purpose?!
