The whole idea that the Earth is 6000 years came from Judaic/Christian teachings. In these teachings, God created the earth in 6 days, and rested on the 7th. Then early humanity happened, Jesus came, and after his death (and resurrection in Christianity), our current calendar years started (2018, 2019, etc). If God created the earth, with his endless capabilities, he could have easily created the sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels that you claim "destroys" the fact that the Earth is 6000 years old. Please try to counter this argument.
@Charlie Bowden , no one can refute that because whatever sound and logical argument thrown to you, you'll just tell them that God's Power make it happens. So its just useless to argue to people like you. I enjoy science that give meaning and trying to describe our word than your beliefs thats concludes everything with groundless statement that I can't get my head around of. I respect your beliefs , but its just science makes more sense. I am also willing to change my mind if someone can persuade me, unlike you.
@patrickperez I respect your opinion, but my point is that because the idea of a 6000 year old earth came from religion, science can’t disprove it as religion and science are two separate things.
Charlie Bowden, the Greek teachings do not contradict the scientific claim that the universe is billions of years old. So, why choose the Bible instead of the Greek stories? Read for yourself: "At the beginning there was only Chaos, Night, dark Erebus, and deep Tartarus. Earth, the air and heaven had no existence. Firstly, blackwinged Night laid a germless egg in the bosom of the infinite deeps of Erebus, and from this, after the revolution of LONG AGES sprang the graceful Eros with his glittering golden wings, swift as the whirlwinds of the tempest" OPEN YOUR EYES
As a Christian (that does not agree that the earth is 6000 years old), I agree with this. Creationism should be taught in religious studies. Evolution should be taught in science.
I'm not going to argue with you over something as trivial as a RUclips comment, so I shall wish you a good day and bid you fair well. May your continued voyage through the wild frontier of the Internet be ever more fruitful.
The genealogies of the Bible prove that the earth is approximately 6,000 years old. We Christians know that this is true because the Word of God is perfect and infallible. In contrast, radiocarbon dating and other manmade methods of dating are extremely inaccurate. There are many errors in these dating methods. The fact is that we cannot prove that these methods of dating are accurate because they're not.
@Catherine Winter Grace Scara That's fine. That's is Indeed the definition of religion. Except, Jesus says it is a fellowship. People who are like minded and firm believer in the teachings of Christ. ***** You are right nothing came from nothing... Energy did expand transforming into matter, and just because it is unlikely life like earth life would survive in the Universe doesn't mean it takes faith. It is vary possible the big bang model is missing a lot, but you can not say that it takes faith, the big bang theory has evidence in to form of math and observational astronomy. The Universe is 13.9 billion years old, 90 billion light years across, and made mostly of Dark matter and energy (96%) which is nothing that is really something.... To review I believe Evolution and the big bang are true because of mathematic and observational data that by many different fields has been proven. Now to address how what you believe takes less faith then what I believe... You believe that God existed before there was anything, even time, so he came form nothing, he created light before stars, he made stars (the universe) just to guide our travels and signal the seasons (even though we can't see most of them), and that humans were deceived by a talking snake that tricked them into eating a fruit that would allow them to know what evil is and what good is... But wait if they didn't know good and evil how could they know disobeying god was a sin...
+Easily Offended Don't Read This... No, no one believes that the Earth is 6000 years old. That's what they believed in the year 2000. It is of course, now 6015 years old.
There is definitive scientific proof that the Earth is thousands, not billions, of years old. For example, scientists have found soft tissue in dinosaur bones which are supposedly millions of years old. But soft tissue can only last thousands of years. This not only proves that scientific dating methods are grossly inaccurate beyond a few thousand years, but it also proves that dinosaurs lived on this Earth thousands, not billions, of years ago.
@@tylerb9877 No, it doesn't prove it. It only proves our knowledge of the world is still lacking. There must be some chemical process still not understood to the current state of science that prevents tissues from decomposing for much longer. We can already postpone the normal tissue break down rate with certain alcohols or aldehydes. Even bodies submerged in swamps are preserved for much longer.
@João Meira You're telling me that there is some kind of mysterious unknown process which enables tissues to survive *thousands* of times longer than they normally would?
@@tylerb9877 Well, if you so vehemently believe that to be true, absolutely nobody is preventing you from going to college and get a science degree. It's, at least to me as a person living outside the USA, amusing to see what religion has degenerated to in the USA. For example, here in Germany we don't have religious people go crazy and against science. In the US it's treated like the bible contains an unquestionable truth that contradicts science, therefore science must be wrong. Here it's more like that there's the christian faith and there's the story behind it and the mythology around it and during worship and rituals, these are pretended to be facts of course, but outside of that noone seriously claims that these are true. And even if you meet a "true believer", they usually aren't trouble, just regular people, often extraordinary friendly, because they believe that to be a good thing. I really have a great deal of respect for the atheist movement that spend so much effort on saving children, that is saving their education and keep them guarded from indoctrination.
While it is true that in general, (central) Europe is pretty much done with religion, you really shouldn't forget about the influx of the religious extreme heading our way. One should only look at the IS recruiters to see an obvious example that indoctrination is not dead in our lands.
Gardow That's certainly true, there are a lot of groups who are trying and to a degree succeeding in indoctrinating people, not only religious groups. My point is just that over here religion is about giving people traditions, provide services (such as funerals) and lend a helping hand in some bizarre scenarios, since the church has still some aces up their sleeve. I wouldn't call it dead, but more of a niche thing. However in America creationist are demanding obediance by abusing the education of children and the politics have yet failed to firmly stand against that, so scientist have to jump in. Over here there's a simple regulation, there are things children have to learn at school (math, sciency, language) but they are entitled to reilgious education as well, from which they can opt out. The religious education takes place at school, but is provided by the respective religous group, which usually means the two churches.
Bill Nye gave Ken "Fuckwitt" Hamm a cold glass of shut up by asking him the question that proved to me that the earth is older than 6k years old by asking him about star light traveling longer than 6k years to get to earth and he HAD NO FUCKING ANSWER! WELL DONE BILL,
henry landivar Unfortunately, that does not matter one whit to Ham's groupies. They sat there, thinking to themselves "Nye can't disprove God, what means we win!" Yes, no matter how scientist versus creationist debates go the creationists ALWAYS declare victory for themselves. That is why I insist that such debates accomplish nothing aside form giving creationists undeserved publicity. That is bad. Ken Ham's laughable ark project was a losing proposition. After the debate though, donations flooded in and the project could move forward. Ham may have been humiliated at the debate by any objective standard, but he cried all the way to the bank.
4a8p9x The bottom line of that whole thing was the simple question asked by an audience member via an index card: "What would make you change your beliefs?" Bill Nye answered, "Evidence." Hamm answered, "Nothing can make me change my beliefs." The absolute of his answer and the close minded realization it gave was the end-all to the debate in my eyes.

George Santana Many folks have claimed to have found noahs ark. The problem is, it's never noah's ark. You can't find something that never existed. We have many flood myths, from different cultures, that were regional and happened at different points in time. The claims of a noahs ark point to petrified wood (which takes millions of years to form) and stones that are in the shape of something... but in reality the dating techniques and other realities further point out that these are hoaxes. Most are from charlatans that also have odd claims and make their money from fools through book sales. Go ahead and study the "scientists" that gladly take peoples money and do these "expeditions" in Turkey, they largely receive paper mill degrees and write discredited nonsense. Nobody has found noah's ark. We have no global evidence of a flood. We have trees that are older than 6,000 years. We have civilizations that are older than 6,000 years. We have genetics and can view DNA sequencing that does not show 6,000 years ago apparently we incested to the current population. The math never adds up. Nothing adds up with your claims.

I don't recall ever being taught creationism in a classroom, and since most people believe in evolution, it doesn't upset me that evolution is widely taught in our school systems. This is coming from the christian (I'd really rather not debate this [It never ends well and you know it]). I believe that religious bias should be completely banned from the PUBLIC school system, and if it's a private school, then they can teach that the sky is purple and that giraffes originated in Antarctica. My main point is, that I believe that religion is a personal set of beliefs, and that those beliefs shouldn't be taught as fact, considering there is a significant amount of bias involved.
That's the problem, evolution is a religion too. There's no proof of evolution. It should not be taught to our children , are we trying to brainwash students
@@GTSN38 I'm very curious to know why you think there is no proof for evolution. I have witnessed natural selection hundreds of times in the laboratory. People have been tirelessly trying to find alternative explanations for over a century, with little avail. When we assume Darwin was correct, all of our models simply work. When we assume Darwin was correct, we're able to predict how organisms change with time to a remarkable degree of precision. No other hypothesis has given us so much predictive power and accuracy. It is not an understatement to say that evolution is the foundation of modern biology, a field which (you might be aware) has contributed amazing things to our society.
@@GTSN38 Propose an alternative hypothesis, and justify it. Once you do that, I will listen to you. As I said, evolution is simply the most justifiable and consistent explanation, despite the attempts made by talented scientists for more than a century.

@@exposidiy6024 Yes I have read the bible several times end to end and maybe twice more in accumulation of different bits. To say that it happened in the Old testament and thus you do not have to pay attention goes against what your jesus said in Mathew 5:18 "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Considering that that has not happened you are still bound by the OT laws as well as the new. On top of that if you want to chuck out the OT you have to lose the 10 commandments, original sin, etc. You can NOT have a New Testament without the Old and your unchanging god clearly changes massively in character in between. The only difference is the laws for the Jews vs the laws for the non-Jews. So you are wrong about that and I suspect you might not have read the bible yourself. Thing two! Do you have any evidence at all for your silly claims about evolution? Cause it is literally the branch of science with the most evidence supporting it. Freaking Gravity has less and I can drop a pen and watch it fall. Your claims show only that you do not understand evolution or Big Bang Cosmology and stellar evolution. Also if you have ever had a flue shot you have benefited directly from our applied knowledge of evolution and that would not work at all if you were right and evolution was false so..... Thing three! Is there any position at all that I could not take if I base it ion faith? If the answer is no then you have a DEEPLY flawed method for determining reality. If faith can excuse any answer it can be used to confirm nothing. Faith is entirely useless and what is worse is that it can confirm the wrong answer in the exact same way it confirms the right one. Far as the bible goes not only have I read it but I have studied its history and the Council of Nicea and how the bible was assembled and how often translation errors are made etc etc etc. Know what found? Same thing as when I investigated any other religions text. An obviously man made and man inspired book trying to make sense of the world around them and mostly getting it wrong. And not just scientifically! Morally! For example the bible says that eternal punishment for finite crime is moral and good but any investigation into basic morality or ethics will show that idea to be flatly INSANE and only something a tyrant of the worst order would even suggest let alone actually carry out. That's from the NT just for you ;) Did... did you say witchcraft? Do you really believe in magic?..... Maybe consider reading a book published this decade? Try out M Theory by Dr. Michio Kaku. He goes through real quick in the beginning to show that we know a LOT LOT LOT more than most religious fundamentalists could even dream! I know this because (again) I was raised christian. It did not hold up to investigation and the Argument from Emotion Fallacy is not good enough. Do you have any real evidence or is this just an argument from fallacies? Cause I don't have any interest in the second but the first interests me greatly.
In the Old Testament God was of the Jews and made a covenant with them so they shall keep until Jesus returns, But in the New Testament even Jesus does not keep that of the old he does not keep the sabbath day holy and does not require animal offerings anymore
The Bible does not say the world was created unequivocally in seven 24 hour days. The Hebrew actually says it was created in seven "Yoms" (it's my understanding that there is no word for a 24-hour day in Hebrew). "Yom" means, literally, "long period of time". It has been translated as "day" for simplicity's sake. A "Yom" can mean a 24 hour period (IE: I haven't eaten in a "long period of time"), or it could be billions of years (IE: the universe took a "long period of time" to develop). It's a flexible term, in other words. There is no necessity to perceive it as a literal 24-hour period, and people as early as St. Augustine were suggesting this (about 1500 years before the Theory of Evolution, and long before we had a conception of the universe being billions of years old). Furthermore, while it says God created humans male and female, it doesn't clearly say HOW. Why not via evolutionary processes? "God created them male and female via evolutionary processes". Nothing explicitly contradicting the bible in that sentence. Indeed, the bible says Man was created from the "dust of the earth"; not a radically different proposition than most evolutionists make. Clearly, it's very easy to reconcile the bible with science. We don't need one to trump the other.
Good points, although you are justifying vague outlines of what the bible proposes. Because of the ambiguity of the term "Yom", you can't really use it to justify what many argue, which is the world being created in 600 years. Because so many things in the Bible are open to interpretation and proven contradictory, it is easy to rationalize and tailor it to make it work with science. It is also easy to express it in contradiction with science. This is why religion is such a powerful tool when it comes to manipulating the masses. Science on the other hand does not need to reconcile to the Bible, it functions and changes in search for the truth.
Hahah true. It's because he retains himself from offending at all cost, when he wants to say "Thats stupid/wrong" he says troubling, when he thinks you are an idiot or something is he usually says " thats an extraordinary view" and so on. Its so fun to catch up on those
It also says that it is okay to have slaves... Shouldn't you be looking for a white guy to serve, instead of throwing your brain-shit here on the web? And btw, just so you know... jesus waas gay. Not that it would make any difference to me, or that it would matter for something! That is a certainty... He was gay! See any of his 12 "Disciples" and you shall understand!
This man has been making science and learning fun and approachable for my entire life (well probably longer), what an incredible person. If only more people would listen to him. I just can't understand how we seem to be going backwards into religious indoctrination in this day and age so thoroughly.

No, it is not the same thing. We can directly observe the earth NOW. We cannot observe the past development of the earth directly. The hypothesis that the earth is millions of years old assumes that there is no god, only physical processes. The hypothesis that the earth is thousands of years old assumes that there is a god intervening in his creation. It then depends on your starting assumptions how you interpret the data. In my experience I encounter a small minority of Christians that believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible. To most of faith science is the revelation of Gods Glory. Creation is what we find ourselves immersed in. Science, not creationism, is the exploration of all of creation. I am a Catholic, I have faith in the mysteries beyond my comprehension- yet I trust in the sciences to expand my sphere of understanding to unravel these mysteries a little more each day. Am I wrong?!
420AnalPlusher69 I completely agree. Most of us believe science is the unraveling of the mystery of creation, and of all that is- I haven't met anyone personally who believes in creationism and excludes science.
Ahmad Hadder Even Dawkins and Tyson do not say in absolute terms that there is no god. They say there has never been even one shred of evidence for one. That distinction is huge and your lack of understanding or acknowledging it makes your perspective one that is derived from ignorance.
Three questions for you: 1) How did matter and energy originate? 2) How do you think life originated? 3) What is your strongest scientific argument to support bacteria are the ancestors of Bill Nye? Thank you, I look forward to your answers.
@@BillMorganChannel "1) How did matter and energy originate?" just before the Big Bang, space was filled with an unstable form of energy, whose nature is not yet known. At some instant, this energy was transformed into the fundamental particles from which arose all the matter we observe today. That instant marks what we call the Big Bang. A remarkable consequence of this model is that, if even a pinpoint of space contained this primordial form of energy, then the pinpoint of space would expand extremely rapidly and would bring into existence more of the same kind of energy. In fact, all the matter in the universe could have arisen from a bit of primordial energy weighing no more than a pea. This amazing scenario is a consequence of applying Einstein's theory of gravity to the inflationary universe model. Thus the known laws of nature can in principle explain where the matter and energy in the universe came from, provided there was at least a tiny seed of energy to begin with. "2) How do you think life originated?" Living things (even ancient organisms like bacteria) are enormously complex. However, all this complexity did not leap fully-formed from the primordial soup. Instead life almost certainly originated in a series of small steps, each building upon the complexity that evolved previously: Simple organic molecules were formed. Simple organic molecules, similar to the nucleotide, are the building blocks of life and must have been involved in its origin. Experiments suggest that organic molecules could have been synthesized in the atmosphere of early Earth and rained down into the oceans. RNA and DNA molecules - the genetic material for all life - are just long chains of simple nucleotides. Replicating molecules evolved and began to undergo natural selection. All living things reproduce, copying their genetic material and passing it on to their offspring. Thus, the ability to copy the molecules that encode genetic information is a key step in the origin of life - without it, life could not exist. This ability probably first evolved in the form of an RNA self-replicator - an RNA molecule that could copy itself. Many biologists hypothesize that this step led to an "RNA world" in which RNA did many jobs, storing genetic information, copying itself, and performing basic metabolic functions. Today, these jobs are performed by many different sorts of molecules (DNA, RNA, and proteins, mostly), but in the RNA world, RNA did it all. Self-replication opened the door for natural selection. Once a self-replicating molecule formed, some variants of these early replicators would have done a better job of copying themselves than others, producing more "offspring." These super-replicators would have become more common - that is, until one of them was accidentally built in a way that allowed it to be a super-super-replicator - and then, that variant would take over. Through this process of continuous natural selection, small changes in replicating molecules eventually accumulated until a stable, efficient replicating system evolved. Replicating molecules became enclosed within a cell membrane. The evolution of a membrane surrounding the genetic material provided two huge advantages: the products of the genetic material could be kept close by and the internal environment of this proto-cell could be different than the external environment. Cell membranes must have been so advantageous that these encased replicators quickly out-competed "naked" replicators. This breakthrough would have given rise to an organism much like a modern bacterium. Some cells began to evolve modern metabolic processes and out-competed those with older forms of metabolism. Up until this point, life had probably relied on RNA for most jobs (as described in Step 2 above). But everything changed when some cell or group of cells evolved to use different types of molecules for different functions: DNA (which is more stable than RNA) became the genetic material, proteins (which are often more efficient promoters of chemical reactions than RNA) became responsible for basic metabolic reactions in the cell, and RNA was demoted to the role of messenger, carrying information from the DNA to protein-building centers in the cell. Cells incorporating these innovations would have easily out-competed "old-fashioned" cells with RNA-based metabolisms, hailing the end of the RNA world. Multicellularity evolved. As early as two billion years ago, some cells stopped going their separate ways after replicating and evolved specialized functions. They gave rise to Earth's first lineage of multicellular organisms, such as the 1.2 billion year old fossilized red algae. the supposition that believing that the world is 6,000 years old spells financial disaster and prevents success, including scientific success, is proven wrong by the many who do or did believe the world to be 6,000 years old who have been successful. For example, Sir Isaac Newton in the past and MIT professor Gerald Schroeder today.
+Joseph Kolakowski Exactly evolution has absolutely nothing to with modern innovation. It is pure desperation to say that it does. If evolution could contribute to scientific innovation, I could earn my master's degree in western history and go on to become a biologist! Please name one financial contribution that the knowledge of large scale evolution (monkeys to man, dinosaur to bird) has made. (I'm not talking about micro evolution like the mutation of bacteria or viruses, or the disappearance of a trait in a species, I'm talking change in kind: monkey to man, dinosaur to bird) And the financial contributions of Newton! Newtons laws helped put people on the moon and are the basis for classical physics. www.livescience.com/4965-isaac-newton-changed-world.html I'll bet Newtons contributions are in the billions!
+Tim H Don't pull the ignorance card on me. You know the huge contribution Isaac Newton has made. Do you know what ignorance is? Ignorance is believing that a code with 4 letters, that can create all of us today happened by chance! This code can be read forwards or backwards, each way producing a separate, useful protein. Or believing in parallel universes which there is not a shred of evidence for. Why believe in parallel universes? because it is so improbable for life to exist, because if the force of gravity was off by about: .00000000000000000000000000000000000001%, then the earth and the sun wouldn't exist. Ignorance is also believing that something could come from nothing. No science can prove anything about that We cannot simulate an environment of nothing: no space, no time. nothing cannot be unstable, it is nothing. I could keep going. It is either ignorance or a denial of the facts. (The difference between micro evolution and macro evolution is that micro evolution is observed in species today. Macro evolution in not. I'm not skeptical of micro evolution, I am of of macro, I could say more on this if you want.)
+Jatz07 Sorry, let let me clarify: Large scale, evolution: dinosaurs to birds, monkey to man. We cannot use this to cure viruses. We can use observable mutations in a virus that cause it to be resistant. It just so happens that as this small scale evolution of viruses is observable, which is why I just so happen to believe it: you need to understand: viruses are extremely simple: a strand of DNA in a protein shell or a membrane bound structure. There are only a few traits to mutate and a few traits that are targeted by our medicines. We know this only because it is observable and not because we dug up a fossilized virus without resistance to a certain medicine that it is resistant to now.
+Jatz07 The majority of Christians do not believe in Genesis. They believe that God used evolution to complete his goal. They are wrong. Evolution is driven by death, in Genesis there was no death when God created everything. Either evolution and atheist is true or the bible is true, but they can't both be true at the same time, it's simple logic. First of all the original question was not whether evolution was true or not, but whether it would be helpful in modern innovation. I do not think it is helpful. you do. lets stick to one track. I believe that large scale evolution is false, but even if I believed it was true, I would not think that it could be helpful to cure viruses, it in nature is very unpredictable, and we would need to know tons of other factors that could have an effect on evolution, to accurately predict the mutations of viruses and such. In fact, I see the excuse for evolution helping in innovation in science as desperation to make it relevant as a science. It is cool to learn about where we came from but if its from evolution you really can't follow through.
1:38 the way I see it is that in the past 13,8 billion years I wasn't there. And it didn't matter. The four decades that I've been here also don't matter much except for a few people who know me. And for the next 13,8 billion year and more it will also not matter that somewhere, some time for the briefest of moments I inhabited a planet somewhere. (If you think I sound a bit gloomy, I am anything but that and am pretty happy with my life. I just have an appreciation for how insignificant a single life is.)
Reading some of the comments from the science-illiterate here, I can easily see that Bill Nye makes an important point about creationists perpetuating ignorance.

Bill Nye has never used an honest scientific fact while promoting his RELIGION of evolutionism. He has never given an explanation as to how any evolutionary change could be possible and never any example of evolution ever occurring. Evolutionism has not use in science but has held back the study of science. The most qualiflied scientists of the world are the Creation cientists.
A dozen radiometric dating techniques show the earth is millions and billions of years old (4.56 billion). Other data points include yearly laminate layers called varves, some lakes have 20 million varves, ice cores have up to 1 million annual layers, stalagmite chronology show 550,000 annual monsoons, chalk cliffs and coral atolls took hundreds of thousands of years to form, Bristlecone tree ring unbroken chronology shows 10,000 years. The earth is really not 6,000 years old. I believe in God, I believe that the Bible is just a bunch of old stories that help us find meaning in life. No way was is the world 6000 years old and we were not just out here by some guy. But surely it is more amazing that fact God can create the universe and 4.5 billion years go by and we have evolved from nothing. Science and religion are not enemies but two sides of the same story. Science explains life, religion gives it meaning.
Science can also give it meaning. We develop our rules of society because if we did not have them, we would be at an evolutionary disadvantage. Religion is unnecessary, unjustified, and not based in reality. It has great potential for harm as most of is is based on stuff that we already know isn't true. God is an unnecessary concept that stifles curiosity and only serves wishful thinking.
Nikki Seven Solos ^ "[religion] has great potential for harm as most of is is based on stuff that we already know isn't true" "we already know isn't true"? need proof
Why does it have to be god? You're just engaging in wishful thinking and claiming a god created us and the universe but there is no evidence for this. In fact an argument can be made against someone creating everything. With your statement I could just replace god with anything I want such as fairys, ghouls or goblins. Just pick the myth you like to believe.

He's fully convinced of a geocentric solar system, and that the Sun,our Moon, and our Earth are exactly the same size, and could not comprehend that the sun is actually a medium sized star that only looks small as comparison to the Earth from its place in the sky is bc it's 93 millions miles away, and therefore our perception is due to forced perspective. My heart bleeds for him, and the knowledge he's been denied, especially given that he has such a passion for astronomy, one that he shares with me, and yet he's hobbled by what aging, dying theocrats don't want young ppl to know bc it threatens the status quo, and thus, their grip on power.
Bill's right were pretty dumb, but is not our fault. The main reason I personally don't learn anything is because most of my teachers suck, here's a what a normal class looks like. Teacher:*Spends the whole class yelling at us for no reason then gives us an homework assignment.* Student:But you didn't teach us anything. Teacher: To bad Student: Okay... When is it due? Teacher: Sometime in the future. Student: But... Teacher: Are you talking back to me? Student:No.. i'm just! Teacher: DETENTION! In short hand, its not a good learning environment. The only thing I do in school is keep my head down and try not to get any attention from teachers. Their are a few really great teachers and I really enjoy there classes/subject but theirs only like 1 or 2.
>The Earth is Really, Really Not 6,000 Years Old I would be more impressed if those who do not believe that would show from the Bible itself that it doesn't even say that! But, these people who claim to have read the Bible, cover to cover many times, never seemed to let any of the words sink in! In Gen. 1:9 there's the words: "... let the dry land appear"--that means that the earth was ALREADY HERE at that time! I've only met one atheist who was honest enough to admit that he never saw that before.

Victor Frankenstein made me want to pursue science. He "tampered in God's domain" and broke the rules. I've always liked breaking rules too. Because most of the rules were written by idiots. Geeks like Bill Nye are laughable because he's a leftist tool and the Left wants everyone to follow rules, not break them. They just want to replace the existing rules with their own rules. I wonder what Bill Nye's take on the biological definition of a woman is? I wonder what Bill Nye's take on the Plannedemic is? I wonder how many unsafe and improperly trial-tested booster shots he's had so far? Guys like Nye are political, and Science is not political. Science is Science. If Nye were truly unbiased and scientific he'd go after Islam (a FAR more dangerous religion) with the same zeal he goes after Christianity.
Nonsense- the earth is 2021 years old guys Srsly tho here’s how I think about it: the Bible is full of metaphors. I’m a Christian but I don’t believe in EVERYTHING. You gotta realize that the Bible was written by ancient people (ancient people didn’t have a good understanding of things keep in mind) who simply recorded what they heard or saw. They didn’t go out and test the waters for stuff, they simply wrote what happened. You gotta keep in mind too that back then literary writing was becoming a much more advanced thing, and so metaphors were used in the Bible EXTREMELY often.
"I’m a Christian but I don’t believe in EVERYTHING" That sums up religion perfectly. I can't make sense of something, but the all powerful magic sky fairy can explain anything.
This is the best video I have ever watched here on RUclips and it means so much more coming from the guys at Big Think and the man himself, Bill Nye. I still remember the day I realised life was so precious, it almost brought me to tears. The fact that we are nothing more than miniscule forms of intelligent life hitch-hiking on a glorious planet of blue and green whirling around a enormous flaming ball of gas at a million miles an hour in the vacuum of space. There is no reason for our existence, everything we do is pointless; and you know what, that is not a bad thing. It is beautiful. A very beautiful thing indeed. The day you realise this is true is the day, in my opinion, you become enlightened and begin to respect your brothers and sister on this Earth.
Maybe if you don't live in the States, then this stuff is just a firm grasp on the obvious. Here in Jesusland, however, there are still a mass quantity of people who need a little. . .extra help.

yes but since he "created" us , he would have for sure known from our perspective it would be confusing , and ergo couldn't he have done the simple calculations and given us the time as we would have experienced it ? i'm no hater but the more i learn about bible the more i lose my faith
There might be some other specie in the space "experiencing" the time differently,it may be true, but since the time and space started with the big bang, all the species can only start to experience it from that event. This excludes the need to introduce a supernatural entity to explain "things" happening from the big bang up to now because the theories introduced can explain the universe evolution from right after it. The question could be raised for the period before the big bang but time itself started with it therefore nobody could have experiencing it before that moment because there was no time and space,at least in this universe.
“Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn't fit in with the core belief.” Frantz Fanon
Does bible even say the Earth is 6000 years old? Cause I haven't heard about this movement anywhere outside the US, and I assume the translations are roughly the same.
Yes, though not directly. 6,000 or around that is achieved via apologetics' napkin math. Frankly I'd prefer the methods of dating that modern science uses, but that's just me. And anyone with half a stone between their ears.
the bible doesn't give a date.. but, you can get a rough estimate by tracing lineages.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Earth_creationism#Jewish_and_Christian_dates_for_creation
Of course not, it was counted by peoples lives from bible or something like that, but where one boat building dude was 500+ years old and so on you can get rough idea how accurate their calculations are :) Bible reports inaccurately on historical events, sometimes they get name of the city right or ruler but that's about it.. how ever is so purely written that you can't take it literally ( as it doesn't say that this chapter is allegory ..etc ) and therefore you have very popular discipline called "Bible interpretation" ( it's what is done for people in church, picking the nice stuff, little something about hell fire to keep people in line, but ends up on happy note .. something about godly love ... ) basically if you can't take it literally and can invent own interpretation, you can fit "the word" to anything .
It was Bishop James Ussher who did the calculation which religitards still accept today, and that was in the 17th Century - in Ireland. It's based on Adam being created on the 6th day, and having his offspring when he was 130 years old, followed by a series of "begats". So, yes, the bible actually gives the age of the Earth as just over 6000 years old.
I think it is because of people's interpretation of Genesis since it literally says that God took 6 days to finish creating Earth and on the 7th he rested. However, the thing people miss is that Genesis is written in the form of a poem, just giving an artistic illustration of how the Earth, animals, and humans are created. To be honest, there is more meaning in the writing style of Genesis than the actual words. *small example in the next part* One example, is that the process (and description) in which God made mankind is different than everything else, giving a sense that humans are special to God. In addition, humans were created last; it is analogous to having a baby. When parents are expecting a baby, they would prepare a room, bed, and stock up on stuff just to welcome the baby when it arrives. Similar to what parents would do, God prepared a "room" for the arrival of mankind. Just a small example where the writing style of Genesis is more important than the literal words. Unfortunately, I don't know why the Bible uses the term, "day"; maybe to God (whatever nth dimensional being he is), a day is all he experiences. No idea, just pulling things out of thin air but 6000 years doesn't seem to be right.

Sedimentary Rocks / Fossil fuels destroys the idea of the Earth being 6000 yrs old.

Most of the algebra was gone by age 22.

Well said!

I'dd say there's a bit of everything in the USA. A few bad spoil the bunch
While it is true that in general, (central) Europe is pretty much done with religion, you really shouldn't forget about the influx of the religious extreme heading our way. One should only look at the IS recruiters to see an obvious example that indoctrination is not dead in our lands.
Islam is flooding Europe at the moment though
They sat there, thinking to themselves "Nye can't disprove God, what means we win!" Ken Ham's laughable ark project was a losing proposition. After the debate though, donations flooded in and the project could move forward. Ham may have been humiliated at the debate by any objective standard, but he cried all the way to the bank.
4a8p9x The bottom line of that whole thing was the simple question asked by an audience member via an index card: "What would make you change your beliefs?"
Bill Nye answered, "Evidence."
Hamm answered, "Nothing can make me change my beliefs."
The absolute of his answer and the close minded realization it gave was the end-all to the debate in my eyes.

You should read the book and free your mind man. It is nothing but a Bronze Age peoples first attempt at explaining what they saw. They got a TON wrong and it is super obvious if you read the bible that an omniscient being could not have inspired such drivel.
Have you read the whole bible, what you mentioned happened in the Old Testament before the word became flesh in the New Testament every sickness and demon is casted our with power in prayer, also if you think about why most believe in the old earth is because they have to accept the fact that we evolved years ago because if they would go with the 6,000 year old earth then we would of seen changes in our dna and body structure at least in the past 300 years that’s why years from now there will still be no change
And try to read the Bible for what it is at the end of the day it comes down to faith listen bro you have to truly believe with all your heart that Jesus is lord and ask for forgiveness and close all evil doors like meditation, drugs, pornography, spells, witchcraft and zodiac signs so that he may enter your life and work works in you
He loves loves you brother🙏 give him another chance
That's from the NT just for you ;)
Did... did you say witchcraft?

“We are not nature’s last word - we are just one more step on the evolutionary timeline”.
that amazing, wow so what are we exactly doing here, and why we waste our little time with school and wars.
Exactly
I was just wondering what those two things have to do with each other 😅
The Bible does not say the world was created unequivocally in seven 24 hour days.
Well said and like the Catholic pope had announced within the framework of evolution, "god" is "a" source from which evolution spawned. Sol Invictus!

Obviously biblical time is thought of differently than regular time, in the same way dog years are to human years (7 to 1). Three questions for you:
1) How did matter and energy originate?
2) How do you think life originated?
3) What is your strongest scientific argument to support bacteria are the ancestors of Bill Nye?
Thank you, I look forward to your answers.
@@BillMorganChannel "1) How did matter and energy originate?"
just before the Big Bang, space was filled with an unstable form of energy, whose nature is not yet known.
"2) How do you think life originated?"
Living things (even ancient organisms like bacteria) are enormously complex. However, all this complexity did not leap fully-formed from the primordial soup. Instead life almost certainly originated in a series of small steps, each building upon the complexity that evolved previously:
Simple organic molecules were formed.

+Jatz07 Evolutionary science doesn't have hardly anything to do with biochemistry. Go ahead and hope we evolve resistance to the virus.
Free hugs for Bill Nye!
(>'.')>

@@garys1266 hey remember the time that were the center of the universe
"One of the problems in the United States" One of soooo many Bill. One of sooooo many.
Bill Nye seems to be looking for a job as Captain Obvious.
You seem to be looking for a job as Captain Troll.
stimproid
That job is not only taken, it's oversaturated.
If it was so obvious there would not be religion.
Someone needs the job, as people still refuse to believe what he is saying.
Maybe if you don't live in the States, then this stuff is just a firm grasp on the obvious. Here in Jesusland, however, there are still a mass quantity of people who need a little. . .extra help.
Bill, when you talk about people that take the time to write hateful things about you ( 3:19 ) ... It made me sad. Bill, I do not know you, but you know what: I love you! You emanate such a lovable persona. I might not always agree with what you say a 100%, but how can someone hate you? You are open minded and respectful even for your opponents. I know how it feel to be hated for no reason so I thought this little comment could contribute to Mister Bill Nye positivy. :o)

Some species experience time differently. It could be that God, if he does exist, experiences time faster than humans.
yes but since he "created" us , he would have for sure known from our perspective it would be confusing , and ergo couldn't he have done the simple calculations and given us the time as we would have experienced it ?
i'm no hater but the more i learn about bible the more i lose my faith
There might be some other specie in the space "experiencing" the time differently,it may be true, but since the time and space started with the big bang, all the species can only start to experience it from that event. This excludes the need to introduce a supernatural entity to explain "things" happening from the big bang up to now because the theories introduced can explain the universe evolution from right after it. The question could be raised for the period before the big bang but time itself started with it therefore nobody could have experiencing it before that moment because there was no time and space,at least in this universe.
That means you're not studying. Check out Kent Hovind. He's got both answers and questions for evolution believers..

*small example in the next part*
One example, is that the process (and description) in which God made mankind is different than everything else, giving a sense that humans are special to God.
God is real and He loves you all!

We have cave paintings much older than 6000 years.
@@SahilShaikh-ex2rx And how do you know that?
Trust me I used to believe that as well until I realized we have literally no way of knowing how old anything is.
@@TrevoltIV "And how do you know that" ?
The oldest known cave painting is a red hand stencil in Maltravieso cave, Cáceres, Spain. It has been dated using the uranium-thorium method to older than 64,000 years and was made by a Neanderthal.
"I realized we have literally no way of knowing how old anything is"
This is just what you want to believe, but your beliefs have no effect on reality and the reality is that even rock samples from the moon date back to 4.6 billion years on radiometric analysis.
@@SahilShaikh-ex2rx That’s not what I want to believe, that’s what I know. Uranium to thorium dating is assuming that no unexpected factors occurred in the past. We’ve already observed accelerated uranium decay, it’s completely possible that cave painting could have been made yesterday according to the dating method used, so it’s untrustworthy. I’d believe it if we had solid evidence, but we do not.
@@TrevoltIV
So provide evidence that something has affected the datings!
And there are lots of other things that show the old age of the Earth than just dating rocks! There is also the continents moving, formation of certain rocks/metals which takes longer than 6000 years, formation of mountains etc.
So the evidence is solid! You simply want to believe the worst without any evidence instead of the facts.
I wish more people believed this to be true. I'm so glad I came to the conclusion when I was younger that I can think for myself and not a book or a set of ideals following an imaginary being that created everything.

Evolutionists had nothing to do with being founders of modern science but only the by the Creation scientists. All diseases are the result of mutations losing information and all bacterial resistance is the result of either losing information or by using already existing information & had nothing to do with the story of evolutioniosm.
I enjoyed your Big Think, thank you. America is a country of contradictions. Such a technologicaly advanced nation that is arguably one of the most fundamentalist. They seem to revel in their poor education and lack of critical thinking.
Is a painting evidence of a painter?
Is a building evidence of a builder?
Then creation is evidence of a creator.
Where does conscienceness come from? God says He created it.
Did evolution create male and female? I thought the process of evolution was to be more efficient, not less efficient. So why did we start as asexual beings and then turn into men and women? And please tell me where at in the evolution process men turned into women or vice versa. And speaking of that. Show me ONE time that an animal KIND turned into a different kind. Speciation is 100% a thing and it is evolutionary. No doubt. But a bird does not turn into a cat.
And that is all based on the premise that NOTHING created everything. I always find it interesting that the ones that claim to believe in science over God believe the scientific impossibility that NOTHING created EVERYTHING. . . Interesting 🤔

what bill says around 6:30. reminds me of how schools teach young students that the earth is 14b years old, and that humans have been on the earth for more then 200thusand years, and where still at a pop of 7.4b people. They teach that we humans come from nothing, that we where an accident, the sun and moon being at the right distance away from the earth, the fact that we have the right materials on earth to support our needs, the fact that we have nails on our fingers to scratch ourselves when where itchy. Every single part of our bodies are just right to support our health, growth and development, all of which is just an accident/coincidence.
I think not, even albert einstein, Issac Newton and many other famous people who where a lot more brighter than Bill Nye, understood one thing all together. They must be an intelligent designer, or we are non-existence, that everything that is going on isn't going on... and that is impossible.
Intelligent design is the very high wall that separates church from state.
