- David found out from his Mother that his Grandfather use to play football professionally. To find out more about Archie's footballing career, David pays a visit to his Uncle John, who reveals that, after being capped for the Scottish Juniors, Archie was signed by Derry City Football Club.
Famous for playing the time-traveller Dr Who, David Tennant has decided to abandon the Tardis and investigate his own history.
David was born in Bathgate, a post-industrial town between Glasgow and Edinburgh, in 1971. His father, Alexander McDonald, is a minister in the Church of Scotland. David changed his second name, as many actors do. Tennant being inspired by The Pet Shop Boy's Neil Tennant.
Beginning his historical investigations by focusing on his father's side of the family, David quickly discovered that the paper trail goes cold relatively early on. This means David's hope of tracing his family back to the time of the clans would take a huge amount of research, so he instead turned his attention to the ancestry of his maternal grandfather, Archie McLeod.

i feel like his accent gets stronger the closer to home he is
John Barrowman's accent changes depending on where he is.
Charlie growing up our near neighbours were both Scottish - every summer they would have any number of family / friends “over from home” - by the time they all left we couldn’t understand a word either of the said 🤣😂🤣
I kinda think that’s true of everybody on the planet though. You revert a bit to your past self when you go back home, don’t you? Accent’s bound to get stronger, no matter where you’re from
Charlie
That's a perfectly natural trait. 'Linguistic accommodation'.
Everyone's does.... my mom has lived in Md for almost 40 years, but the closer she gets to Brooklyn 🤯
he sounds JUST like his dad
for 2 seconds i wasn’t looking and thought it was David..
I love this so much! And it's amazing how much David sounds like his dad!
A Scotsman told me a scot moves 2 miles away from where he was born or away completely. Interesting coming home. The discomfort of his Orange scarf but how he can handle both divides . Very mature. Love him more
In wales it’s the square mile, yr Sgwar fylltyr.
Oh it's so sad his mum passed away in July 2008 while he was filming the Doctor Who Christmas Episode Voyage of the Damned.
I think you mean July 2007.
.. I thought I read on the book a Writers Tale by Russell T Davies it was July 2008... will have a look again. ☺
Voyage of the Damned first aired in December 2007, so she passed away in July 2007. They had to reschedule some of the filming so he could be with her when she died and could bury her. Yet, somehow, you couldn’t tell that by his performance. Such a talented man.
@@RRB99 Totally agree with you.
His acting was fantastic.
Him having to put that jolly demeaner and then Asteril dies.. great performance by him.
Oh god poor soul. That bit where Astrid dies must've been difficult. July 2007 was 6 months after I was born.
He's just so adorable!
David is a lovely man with a stunning smile. I just don't want him to accept any more villain roles, like that man who killed all his family. It messes with my head too much.
Just found these today, 2020. Loving it all. I saw David drinking from a st Monans Kirk cup. Beautiful area and life the fife accent! 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Love how David Tennant's half irish same as my Dad my family are from over the border x
Antony J. Crowley is trying to make his “alibi family” to live normally as human on earth.
he looks very like his grandfather
Why is David wearing Christopher Eccleston’s jacket?
David I picked him out right away. Lol God bless you
no entiendo nada pero me quedo embobada viendolo hablar 👩❤️💋👨💗
Handsome!!!
Hell, I picked him out and I'm not even related to him.
Ireland
That’s so funny. My mom insisted I wear orange on St Patrick’s Day otherwise my prot grandfathers would ‘spin in their graves’.
Right Right Right!
Everyone is so proud of David Tennant with the original doctor who started there's the original doctor who David Tennant dad and Barbara fantastic original outfits and good American actor family history the family side of the Richard Dean Anderson side of the family JLo pop singer JLo Ricky Martin Christina aguilera

A like your granny David 🇬🇧🤚🏻🏴
Gran sounds like a good woman !!!!
Is David Tennant catholic or protestant?
Protestant. Methodist to be exact. In fact, his father used to be a minister for a Methodist church which is 1 of the reasons why David was raised to be a good boy.😊
@@kittycatmeowmeow963his dad wasn’t Methodist - he was the head of the Church of Scotland. The Very Reverend Alexander McDonald.
Neither.
Looks like Craig Ferguson lol
So, he is a Scott who thinks that being Protestant and conservative is sinful? How strange.
Scotland isn’t a very conservative or religious place, it isn’t that strange
@@johnmackenzie6181 I stand corrected.
I don't think it's so much 'sinful', more that he doesn't want to be involved with the sectarianism in anyway.
@@1882osr He seemed pretty revolted. He can be a godless heathen all he wants. Why are atheistic types so holier than thou? Its confusing. :-)
@@wendyjones6077 If that's what you think revulsion is then you've had a pretty nice life! And I'm fairly sure if you'd grown up watching the sectarian violence, you'd be a little upset to find out your grandmother had her own distate for people purely for being Catholic
Londonderry Northern Ireland United Kingdom
Except they were always called Derry the football, team, weird that isn't it.
Derry
I wore orange on St Patrick’s day and made my kids also. Hahahahaha
