Great reaction again. As has been said, this was during the first 'half' of the Legend 1997 show (as was the 'Megitsune' performance you watched), so the instrumentals were not live, most of the vocals were. The footage from this performance was used for the official video with the studio audio dubbed on top and it was that video that went viral and whether directly or indirectly resulted in their booking at Sonisphere in the UK in 2014 being moved to the main stage from the original small side stage or tent they were going to be playing. That official video for 'Gimme Chocolate' is probably the first experience most people have with BABYMETAL and it can go either way. Sadly a lot of people are immediately turned off as soon as Yui and Moa come in with their "Atatatatatatata dukyun" - those people just don't seem able to get past that, think this is all BABYMETAL have to offer and never listen to them again - unless they stumble across another song by accident. That has happened with many people who realised they had missed out on so much more for so long because they were put off too easily. Happily some people love the contrast between the metal sounding almost like Slayer and then being hit with those vocals and those people dive head first into the Fox hole to join the rest of us wandering around and enjoying life down here.
First time I saw Give Me Chocolate, I was so in shock I just has to watch more BABYMETAL. And I never stopped smiling and headbanging because of them since.
Nice reaction. The viral song that put the metal world on it's head. Metalheads freaked out when this song hit the world. Lovers and haters sprang up around the world. Babymetal was determined to introduce the young ladies to metal. When they came out with there first album. You can tell there's alot of ease you into metal type songs on the album. As it goes along they just say ok it's metal time. By then it's too late, your falling down the fox whole and they got you. Bruce Lee said "There is no thinking, only feeling". He was talking about martial arts at the time. But Su has found that it applies to Babymetal as well, with her quote "Don't Think, Feel". Yup when it comes to Babymetal just go with it. You'll be happier for it.
Babymetal, the only band that can mix every genre with their metal and it always works and sounds amazing :). This is usually the wtf didi I just watch song for anyone reacting to Babymetal. Great reaction!
Great reaction!! Thanks for sharing it!! Gimme Chocolate was my first BABYMETAL song, and being a metalhead myself I was like WTF is this, I had to listen to it 3 times to give them a chance, then Megitsune and last Headbanger and I have not been able to stop listening/watching BABYMETAL since then. 🤘🦊🤘
I believe that pretty much no one can resist a catchy chorus, it‘s just that many metalheads forbid themselves to do so, because it’s not cool to like poppy things. But when it comes sneaking in through the backdoor like in this song, some are so surprised that they forget to not smile. :-)
Thank you for your reaction👊🏽⚡️ Yea this was my first exposure to Babymetal about a year ago or so. It must have made quite an impression as this has been my favorite band since then. (Supplanting Metallica..)
I agree with you. "What the hell it is!", is the key phrase to understand BABYMETAL. Because they has said so when they expressed themselves. Thank you from Japan.

Normally in a live performance the crowd sings along. But this was the first time anybody had heard the song :) This and Megitsune were not really live. I don't know why they recommended these versions. This was more or less the last time they played with recorded music and the Kami Band came on later in the show to do the 5 song finale. This was the end of the period when they were integrating the Kami Band into the show and it was partly live and partly recorded. Babymetal Death was actually live as that was part of the finale.
Never expect anything when listening to a new Babymetal song: they are way crazier than what you can ever imagine :D Sooo you like them mixing genres? You should definitely watch their official MV of "Iine" :) It was their second ever MV release, and they were telling us really early that they wouldn't be bound by any rules!!

So THIS video is the one people usually get reactors to listen to first, cause of the "Shock Value". I personally hate using this song to introduce people to Babymetal since it does turn a LOT of people off their music right off the bat without giving them a chance. Anyways, I'm pretty sure I already posted this in one of your other videos, but if not here it is: BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL - KARATE (OFFICIAL) BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) BABYMETAL - Headbanger (live legend 1997)
I guess that at least 85-90% of Babymetal fans listened to Gimme Chocolate first, so it really doesn´t matter imo. And the shock value of Headbanger isn´t any less than of GC for first listeners, i would say.
@@bottnetbottner5366 it's more the "DA DA DA DA DA DA DO" that Moa/Yui do while pointing finger guns at Su that I've noticed turn people off the most, since it's so out of left field and jarring if you're not expecting it. I've had so many friends say "ya I tried listening to that Babymetal you recommended, and picked the vid with the most views (GC), and couldnt even make it past the first few seconds." I'm 100% sure that there are a LOT of reactors that did the same and never uploaded the video since reactors know that negative reactions usually lead to massive downvotes from fanbases. I've had a LOT more positive reactions from my friends when I send them other songs then GC first. But that's just my personal experience.
@@Kelven486 I think it depends on the people, not everyone likes this kind of music and the dismiss of the "dadadadado" could also happen with the "hedoban hedoban babababa" or "seya sesese seya" :-)) Maybe there are reactors that doesn´t upload their videos who knows, but i would say that the majority of those who did were more positive than negative. I´ve shown friends other songs than GC first, for example Rondo of Nightmare, with the result "yeah, the instrumentals were good but i can´t stand the singing". Thats why i´ve said that it doesn´t really matter. So, every experience is different and i understand and respect your opinion based on your experience. Kitsune up. If there are any mistakes, i apologize for my english. It´s not my first language.
Yep. Babymetal is the originator of kawaii metal (cute metal). If you ever wonder who plays the instruments don't hesitate to react to Babymetal - "Rondo of Nightmare" live with intro at Budokan Black Night concert😉
Great reaction....again. This was the one that went viral with the WTF effect. A swedish music journalist said once that it's about eating lots of chocolate (and I hate him for that) but is actually about wanting have some chocolate but at the same time being worried about gaining weight. The pressure society putting on women about their weight. Anyway, this went viral and made them known around the world. Kitsune up🤘🦊🤘🇸🇪/4
Great reaction! Actually the instrumental backing track sounds chunkier (and better imo) than the studio version. Not to mention Su's vocals... I also prefer this version of the visuals (very similar but not exactly the same as in the MV). Well, this actually was the world premiere of the song and it went viral for the exact reasons you mentioned about the contrast between the funny and catchy chorus (and vocals in general) and the brutality of the metal behind it (totally intended). I believe that helped a lot during their lift up back in 2014.
Hi!!! I've been listening to metal for over 10 years and Babymetal became one of my favourite bands of all time !!! it's very different from "traditional metal", but they are great, really if you watch them without prejudice, you may or may not like them, but they do an awsome job!!! both the girls and the Kami Band (The musicians) are excellent at what they do, personally I love this band. You have a world whole to discover, Babymetal are a genre by themselves, you'll see hehehe. well greetings from a Kitsune (babymetal fan) from Mexico !! /o/
"I did not expect that!" Of course not, you're listening/watching Babymetal! One very important rule of thumb while taking in Babymetal: expect the unexpected. I also recommend their very first MV "Doki Doki Morning" ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) and "Song 4" live ( ruclips.net/video/7_D6Q895Ts8/видео.html ). Kitsune up!!! 🦊🤘

@@MyMetalHealth Yes! It must have been incredible to witness this concert. All the songs from it that are available are excellent. The Kami Band only appeared for the last 5 songs of the concert but this was the last time they used those actors in skeleton suits on stage instead of live musicians.
Most BM songs are best reacted to live. The exception in my opinion would be Iine (eenay not Line). You should do the official music video for maximum shock value. And you will be shocked we promise!! How they can cram so many music genres into one song is mind boggling.
Well, you've seen the studio versions, the Kami band live, Su singing live with recorded music, and now studio vocals over concert footage where the music was recorded. 🤣 hopefully the next one will be live vocals and live Kami band. Everything they did after Legend 1997 is totally live so there is a lot to choose from.
These _are_ live vocals. This is the same performance from which they took footage for the official music video, except this version has the live audio. Also the Babybones continued to back them for a few more shows after _Legend 1997._
@@stevebiko7125 you're right about the first part. I assumed it was the official video because I didn't have time to watch it at that moment, but I was wrong. I'm pretty sure Legend 1997 was the last time they went without a live band though. That was one of the purposes of the concert. My understanding is,b the Kami band had played in earlier concerts but this is when they became permanent.
@@jeffschreifels8651 No worries. I think several fans (including myself at one point) have had the same misconception regarding the Kami Band after that concert. But they continued to use Babybones post _Legend 1997_ for a few more shows including Singapore and Taiwan as well as a few in Japan. I think the next time the Kami Band actually backed them again wasn't until the Budokan shows in March of the following year (2014).
@@stevebiko7125 you are right but those are concerts WTR is not likely to find any videos for. Therefore, if he looks for material newer than Legend 1997 he will see the Kami band

Great reaction. Just to add to the mystique of this song, Gimme Chocolate is actually kind of a protest song. While being sugar sweet and mind-numbingly cute it is also a slap at the patriarchal nature of traditions surrounding Valentines Day, particularly the tradition of Giri Choco (Obligation Chocolates). This sounds a bit like Gimme Chocolate, doesn't it? In fact, Gimme Chocolate was released in Japan as Gimme Choco, which is even closer to Giri Choco. The song also references the 'fat shaming' of girls by a changing society. If you have half an hour to spare there is an in-depth explanation of these concepts and more by AJ Hartley, a Shakespeare scholar, novelist, university lecturer and Babymetal fan. Hartley typically analyses the lyrics, dance and music of Babymetal songs and provides his thoughts on how each element works to create the powerful performances given by Babymetal. Well worth a look. Hartley's video for Gimme Chocolate can be found here: BabyMetal "Gimme Chocolate": copyright edit. AJ Hartley analysis reaction #6.1 - RUclips
No, Gimme Choco wasn't live here. The 'Babybones' guys miming playing the instruments are actors. The Kami Band only came on stage for the last 5 songs of the concert.
@@tonygriffin_ I know, but it doesn´t change the fact that this is the recording of the live concert and not the MV which had the album track layered over the concert footage. So, at least Su is singing live in this version.
@@bottnetbottner5366 Yes, Su's voice live is always the main thing for me. This seemed to have slightly different video than normal too, as the wide shots of the whole crowd and the auditorium with Moa and Yui on each far side were missing.
@@tonygriffin_ Correct, this clip is from the concert DVD/BluRay . I guess they changed it a little bit for the official MV. The uploader Gans Tomas has all songs (except Akatsuki unfinished) of Legend 1997 (and other shows of Babymetal) on his channel, i recommend to take a look.

"I did not expect that!".... if I had a dollar for every person that said that when they react to Babymetal 🤣🤣 They won't be Babymetal if they did something you expected or predictable. 50+ songs and none of them are similar. you'd never get bored of Babymetal. you might not like everything they do, but you will find something you'd like. Kitsunes up! 🤘🦊🤘
I guess no one is going to say anything... shrug.... Kitsune (keet-soo-nay) = male fox, megitsune (meh-geet-suh-nay) - female fox... \m/ (I did the same for quite a while...:) This one cracks me up when they sing "So happy" while patting their tummy.... 🤪🤣 Too much fun...lol 🔥🦊💪👏👏👏🤘😎🙏✌
Hey amigo
You are on fire 🔥 today
Don’t forget
HEADBANGER LEGEND 1997
This one will make 2 out 3 for the
TRILOGY OF DETH
as you already did
BABYMETAL DETH LEGEND 1997
So please
You are going to love this one
Great job! When referencing "...all the BABYMETAL fans...", this can be downsized to "THE ONE". This is the name BABYMETAL themselves bestowed upon their fans; one of the most age, gender, ethnically & culturally diverse fanbases on the planet.
Arigatou! 🦊🤘 #notacult
I had the same reaction! It was a curveball, but dang it fits!!

Funny how many Babymetal Fans don´t recognize that this is the live version and not the MV.
@@bottnetbottner5366 I have all their DVD's, even the Fox concerts which nearly broke my wallet!
Great reaction bro!
wait till you see/hear ilne..

Next React BabyMetal - Headbanger Live 🤘🔥🔥
Nice reaction using the concert audio version instead of the music video version.
If you're considering "Catch Me If You Can", this live version is the debut of the song from February 2013 - ruclips.net/video/aaTo7_gYDKo/видео.html
Babymetal..."Karate"....
Don't listen to the couple guys pushing live only. Live is great, but their music videos are even better sonically as one would expect..
go for "rondo of nightmare" . u havent seen notjing yet dude
Not there best song some fans hate it because of it's views people think this is what BabyMetal are about and never listen to them again. But BabyMetal are so much more . look at the loyalty and love ftom the fandom of all genders, races ,ages toddlers to grandparents and old metalheads like me . This song by the way gets a great response live and although they performed it countless times it's still performed with 110% enfusiasm 🤘🦊🤘
BxMxC newer BM. Su can sing anything.
Looks like you moved on, but just to let you know BABYMETAL will have a new album coming out in March this year (2023). Any may be adding tour dates, keep your eyes open. As a new fan myself, re-discovered through you and other reactors, I don't want to miss out on the chance to see them live~ 🤘🦊🤘
I haven’t moved on, I’ve been terrible with my uploads!! Haha, I’m going to be reacting and diving more into their music 🔥🤘🏼
@@MyMetalHealth I've become a bit addicted to babymetal reactions, and build playlists of reactor journeys. Your journey is one of my favorites, looking forward to more when you have time! Take care of yourself! I've grown to love most of their music, but, BxMxC or PA PA YA are newer songs off of Metal Galaxy (2019) that are good to get to. There are still older songs I want to recommend, but it may be a good time to check out what they have been up to.
WELCOME TO THE FOX HOLE...................
