The movie wasn't executed the best but it represents the books a lot better than the TV show does not to mention it has better actors than the TV show does. Also Jamie will always be my Jace. And Lily is also the better Clary. The actors in the movie are just way better.
Ok the movie wasn't a masterpiece but it was still highly enjoyable and it definitely didn't deserve the low ratings. The acting by the actors was actually very good (unlike some other franchises like twilight). And Jace was super cute in an elvish sort of way. I like the actors in the series better too, but I was a little sad when the people working on the series said it would only be somewhat based on the books, and that it wouldn’t follow them completely. The only thing I didn’t really like about the actors was that some of them weren’t that similar to the books. I don’t really have much problems with them changing Luke’s skin colour, but I didn’t like it when they got Clary’s and her mom’s hair wrong. Clary should have barely red hair, meanwhile her mom should be fiery red. (So they basically switched the hairs in the series.)

I know I'm very late to the party, but I absolutely loved the movie. Back then, I usually saw the movies before reading the original work, and I remember the movie got me so hooked that I bought the entire Mortal Instruments series (not one by one, but at once). Yeah, after reading the books, I can see that the movie had its problems, but it's hard to put hundreds of pages worth of a book into an hour and a half-two hours tops long movie. I started watching the series as well, but I never got to the second season. I kept up with it on RUclips, but I don't regret not continuing with it. Yeah, there are scenes that I like returning back to, but overall, I didn't even enjoy the first season, and when the second came out, I just saw no point in watching it. It doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not my thing. Or maybe I'm just biased because I saw the movie first. Also, I see a lot of people saying Jamie is the better Jace. I totally agree with that. I'm not saying Dom is a bad actor, I saw him in other things and he's good, but Jamie always felt more natural as a Jace. The confidence, the dry humor, the look, it didn't seem like acting. But with Dom, it felt forced, I could tell it was just acting. He didn't seemed cocky, which Jace really was a lot of times, but he had a right to be that way, he was a really talented shadowhunter. But Dom's Jace just seemed arrogant for no reason. He was a good shadowhunter in the show as well, I'm talking about the acting part. I don't know if that makes sense...
I honestly like jace and clary from this one but I prefer the others (Alec, Izzy, Simon, etc.) acting better. I love this movie though I just feel Jace and Clary’s acting on the other one is terrible and they don’t have as much of a connection as they did in this one.
None of the "actors" in the TV show are that great. Not compared to the movie. But I think it has to do with how horrible the lines are for the show, because some of them are fine in other projects, but the TV show is just horribly written, with cringy dialogue. I just don't understand why they don't make any more movie for the shadow hunters franchise. This movie is honestly better than Twilight or the Divergence by miles. It is interesting, has proper plots, and humor. So what exactly made the bland twillight series a second chance while this didn't?
I like the movie and was upset we never got any more. But I LOVE the series even though I was upset with some of the changes and the ending. I just tried really hard to separate it from the books. And it helped that I've always loved Malec and especially the ShumDario version.
This movie came out at EXACTLY the wrong time; because mark my words, if it hadn't been sandwiched in between a run of TRULY AWFUL adaptations, it would have done a LOT better at the box office! It was just fine enough that a sequel should have been made. AT LEAST one sequel.

I seem to remember Magnus not being a big part of the first book either. Soooo, like that is pretty accurate. And the writing in the TV show is so so so so horrible, it's cringe to watch. I do prefer TV Alec and Magnus and Izzy, like they are way way better than movie version. But movie Jace is 100x better than boring douchebag looking Dom. Clairy I don't have an opinion on, like Lilly is a better actor, but the other girl did not get enough good material to show her worth. But I guess I do like the look of TV clairy more because of the more orange red hair.
i only disliked two things in the movie: -the actress for Izzy -the actor for Alec Izzy is supposed to be fun and sexy but her actress was so serious and kinda failed. Alec is supposed to be hot and all very serious but his actor looked kinda old and drug addicted.

None of the "actors" in the TV show are that great. Not compared to the movie.
But I think it has to do with how horrible the lines are for the show, because some of them are fine in other projects, but the TV show is just horribly written, with cringy dialogue.
I do prefer Movie Jace and Clary, but I love TV show Alec and Magnus and Isabel so much more than movie.
Simon im indifferent too. They are both good.

I just don't understand why they don't make any more movie for the shadow hunters franchise. This movie is honestly better than Twilight or the Divergence by miles. It is interesting, has proper plots, and humor. So what exactly made the bland twillight series a second chance while this didn't?

I like the movie and was upset we never got any more. But I LOVE the series even though I was upset with some of the changes and the ending. I just tried really hard to separate it from the books.
And it helped that I've always loved Malec and especially the ShumDario version.

This makes the movie seem a lot better, and upon re-watching it, the Jace isn't so bad. (although I still prefer the show)
This movie came out at EXACTLY the wrong time; because mark my words, if it hadn't been sandwiched in between a run of TRULY AWFUL adaptations, it would have done a LOT better at the box office!
It was just fine enough that a sequel should have been made. AT LEAST one sequel.

The movie quite confused me ( And also! Magnus didn't appear that much in the movie and Magnus is my favorite character the moment I laid my eyes on him). I understand the series more and in my opinion I like the series better.
I seem to remember Magnus not being a big part of the first book either. Soooo, like that is pretty accurate.
And the writing in the TV show is so so so so horrible, it's cringe to watch.
I do prefer TV Alec and Magnus and Izzy, like they are way way better than movie version.
But movie Jace is 100x better than boring douchebag looking Dom.
Clairy I don't have an opinion on, like Lilly is a better actor, but the other girl did not get enough good material to show her worth. But I guess I do like the look of TV clairy more because of the more orange red hair.
i only disliked two things in the movie:
-the actress for Izzy
-the actor for Alec
Izzy is supposed to be fun and sexy but her actress was so serious and kinda failed.
Alec is supposed to be hot and all very serious but his actor looked kinda old and drug addicted.
