There were needle bearing pieces everywhere in the motor. I was so disheartened for you, but you took it like a champ and kept on trucking. So happy to see you get your car together and driving it. I've tested the 160F thermostat and it doesn't affect the watertemps if you drive longer than the quartermile where the engine can cool down after the runs. I'm driving a 180F thermostat and did my software with hp tuners. The fan settings can and will help to maintain the watertemps down. on hotter days, which we had for a few weeks ago in germany, I could keep the temperatures max 212-214F. The fans ran a lot 'cause of the hot temps of about 95F outside temps. Next step would be a bigger full aluminum radiator, I would recommend and I will propably do on my ride ;-) 6.0 heads are LS2 heads? Then there are almost the same with 243s! Good upgrade.
Thanks for the advice! I have the fans tuned to run at lower temps as well and that helps a little but not too much. Will definitely be looking into a bigger radiator. These heads are great just didn’t have the time to port and polish.

Mentioning heads, if your looking for something a bit better then ported 243, you should strongly consider some PRC 227 heads, they flow amazingly with an NA setup as well as bumping up your compression. I'm running 241s on my BTR 3 ls1 setup sadly.. however I'm stumped on building a 6.0 swap or just going all out & keep beefing up the ls1... Ls1 is an awesome motor however like you.. I want more out of her 😂 so I'm more so leaning towards the 6.0 winter build, congrats & mad props with your car. Very happy to see you out cruising here around finally, it's all been worth the wait.

The cold start and take off sounded like the tune could use alil more work. It can be pretty tricky dialing in big cam cold start/drivability, otherwise sounds great. I just got done with my heads/valve job, just doing some final checks on the engine and turbo kit getting ready for install. I been slacking on the filming also but recorded a good bit of the build process. Can't wait for my first drive as well.
@@walkerhaules I have 3 different setups I put together myself. 1 is basically a copy of the Huron Speed kit with truck manifolds turned around into a merge in front of the crank pulley. I also have Fbody turbo headers but the setup I put together now is a modified truck log manifold and crossover pipe. Using on3 7875 for now.
You mentioned the brake upgrade, I used Rock Autos premium four-wheel disc upgrade for my WS6. It has slotted and drilled rotors and it will absolutely stop on a dime and give you change.

What Kind of Nittos you running that hook on the street? I have 28" tall Mickey Thompson ET Streets and burn them all the way through 1at and most of the way through 2nd if I don't feather it. Maybe the technology is better today?
Car was down on power with the tune not right it spins them right off in first and second now. Gonna have to upgrade to a “radial” now. They were Nitto NT555 G2’s
I have the door panel lol figuring out a wiring issue to the window is the reason it’s out. But thank you man! I plan on keeping it for a very long time and definitely plan on keeping it clean.

@@walkerhaules have you check your fuses and relays witches? And always look down from your connections to your window motor and your window motor witch on your door panel. You could just have where the wire itself as rub in outer insulation off, and it's grounding itself somewhere on the body of the door or car
dang. 130k miles. 500 ponies. and an automatic 4? I know it's uncouth to admit this when you're around CAR GUYS, but I don't actually miss the manual 6 when the car has this much power. the drive ability, the cruise ability, and the longevity of the transmission itself all greatly benefit from this simplicity. so often you'll get a big, beefy, cammy LS that just sort of humps along the road any time you're stuck under 3rd gear which is MOST OF THE TIME unless you're strictly going to and from the race track... but with this particular beast you can just hop in the drivers seat and enjoy the drive without fighting the clutch
It makes low 400 wheel but definitely enjoy not having to fight a big heavy clutch in traffic and in town. I drive the car a lot and enjoy the simplicity
Look like you pound coors light and take bong rips but it could just be the mullet. Car does sound good tho real choppy can't wait til I finish mine or should I say start the new setup
Hey man I haven’t followed your build, I have a few simple questions being a 4th gen owner ls1..I installed a btr stage 3 n/a cam kit..trunions..pushrods..etc. Installed a double roller timing chain and melling oil pump..here’s my first question..are you using a melling? If so what did you go with high flow or high pressure? I went with the middle spring I think it was high volume(the chop on the cam is heavy and the oil pressure runs while idling 30/40 it goes with the chop of the cam. So my question is high volume or high pressure did you run? Question 2/ I noticed your car runs hot as well..I changed the thermostat but she still runs around 200/220..running stock fans which seem to throw awesome cfms..but what did you end up doing to cool her down? The thermostat didn’t help much being from Florida.. When your car gets up to full temp on idle what’s your oil pressure? If you can reply cool if not I’ll try and find the answer in your channel. Either way nice ride man..I still have to get my car tuned so I’m not really stressing the heat right now..I also may wire my fans to a switch and override the ECM..I got a nice 3 core rad for her but for some odd reason she didn’t like it I ended using a stock radiator…next on my list is s trans cooler and oil cooler. I have a high flow melling in this car. I haven’t done anything to really combat the heat. After my most recent tune the car started to run normal temps around 180-190 so maybe something in the tune helped it out. At idle at operating temp my car has around 45-50 psi and while driving it’s around 60. Thanks for watching and subscribing! @@walkerhaules thank for the reply man, I seen your headers were wrapped im probably going to wrap mine in the near future I take a laser temp gauge and those suckers get hot 400+ degrees..also I think I’m going to switch out my spring in my melling for the higher flow..I went with the middle spring I think it was green..idles at temp at the chop of the cam around 30-40 and when driving or getting on it it’s thru 75+..I just don’t like to see her get anywhere near 30..anyways man keep thanks for the reply good luck and keep us posted if you make any changes as far as cooling goes. 🤙🏻
What cam and torque converter did you go with my cam is the 585/585 Lyft and my torque converter is a 2700 stall I upped the injection to 34bms with forged, Molly, pistons gap 24 all the way around I don’t know what kind of horsepower gonna get because I haven’t gotten back yet
BTR stage 3 cam i can’t think of the specs off the top of my head. FTI 3600 converter. I definitely need injectors next at WOT my duty cycle is at 98% so almost maxed out. I did pistons as well and make mid 400’s on a good day. Tune needs some work hoping to bring the number up a bit after all kinks are worked out
Beautiful car and I'm glad you young kids are out keeping gasoline engines alive because one day we will not have them or at least not have total control over them like we do now. To get to my point I really don't think you have anywhere near 500 horsepower. My guess is somewhere in the 300s. To be honest it looked very slow and the fact that the tires won't even break loose wouldn't make sense if you had 500 horsepower. Even 500 to the crank you're spinning 99% of tires . Like I said though it's a beautiful car and it does sound amazing add idle.
Thanks a ton! Definitely not 500 hp it realistically is right at 380 but the tune was terrible i had in this video so it was really underpowered. Tune is straight now and it will sling the tires off no brakes required! Thanks for watching

Start with a cam and supporting mods. Don’t cheap out on a single thing you will regret it. Take your time getting parts. Heads are the next step. Ported 799’s work great with a cam on this motor.
Same here...no cats, egr delete, air pump delete, tune. Had speed engineering long tubes on for 2 years now (i did entire job myself) still VERY happy with them....

I don’t know what rear end gear you are running but my 02’WS6 was running 100mph at 2100rpm Your was doing like 60!of course I had the 6speed, but still…. You don’t have 450-500hp either. Probably no better than 420 at the wheels if it’s still an LS1…. For N/A LS engines you need a 4inch bore block or bigger that will take the higher flowing heads to get more than low 400hp. I had these cars for 10 years and studied everything about them. Even with the best heads, magic stick4 or whatever cam, headers, intake….these cars never made much more than 420-450 rwhp without power adder. However, with a turbo or pro charger and a big shot of the giggle juice, these These cars can get into the 700-800 hp range pretty easy. And even though that’s not as much as today’s factory killers, the T/A would still beat them in a street race, if there is a driver mod added to the mix. As I’m typing I hear you say 6.0 heads? Do you have a 4in bore block? If so, based on how it sounds I’d say a good tune is all it needs to make big power. But anyway, good to see young guys keeping the LS flame burning. Now go research tee tree oil and get some for that upper lip. You can thank me later

Pistons rods port polished heads big cam comp ultra gold rockers, all supporting mods. 3600 FTI converter built 4l60. Plan is nitrous after i get these bugs worked out. I don't want to be a Debbie downer but no way it's making 490rwhp... I don't think even 450rwhp like said in video. Maybe you meant crank? Looks like you're just full exhaust and a cam that's it. Also you put 6.0 heads? So 317 castings I'm assuming. It probably dropped your compression down to around 9.5-1... under 10.1 for sure. If I had to guess you're probably like 380-400 at the wheels. You still have a factory lid. Not sure what your plans on with the car if looking at staying NA or boost but lmk if you need any suggestions. I've been in the 4th gen fbody game since 1999 I've probably owned 20 plus fbodys and 20 plus c5/c6 corvettes. Good luck keep building.
When i say 500 HP i’m learning more towards crank hp for clickbait! Realistic this set up should put down 400-430 wheel. Whole motor is built, rods,new flat top pistons, cam, ported heads, all supporting mods as well as big converter and shift kit. Just missing the boost! Car hasn’t ran good enough for me to justify that just yet. Want a great running N/A car before i go down that road! Thanks a ton for watching would definitely love more suggestions!
@@walkerhaules I definitely saw a stock intake lid when u had hood open? I'd get an aftermarket lid. At the very least like an slp lid. Or if you're trying to do a max effort NA setup do a fast 102/102 combo, don't pay attention to the guys who say fast 102 too big etc..id skip the 92 fast. Mill the heads down to 60-62cc.... But those 6.0 heads u can't mill that far down. Maybe to 64-66 but still it will bump up your compression. Can you list your complete mod list for me? Cam specs too and your heads.

You're not into closed loop until at least 30 seconds, up to 90s of runtime.

@@walkerhaules have you check your fuses and relays witches? And always look down from your connections to your window motor and your window motor witch on your door panel. You could just have where the wire itself as rub in outer insulation off, and it's grounding itself somewhere on the body of the door or car
dang. 130k miles. 500 ponies. and an automatic 4? I know it's uncouth to admit this when you're around CAR GUYS, but I don't actually miss the manual 6 when the car has this much power. the drive ability, the cruise ability, and the longevity of the transmission itself all greatly benefit from this simplicity. so often you'll get a big, beefy, cammy LS that just sort of humps along the road any time you're stuck under 3rd gear which is MOST OF THE TIME unless you're strictly going to and from the race track... but with this particular beast you can just hop in the drivers seat and enjoy the drive without fighting the clutch
It makes low 400 wheel but definitely enjoy not having to fight a big heavy clutch in traffic and in town. I drive the car a lot and enjoy the simplicity

Hey man I haven’t followed your build, I have a few simple questions being a 4th gen owner ls1..I installed a btr stage 3 n/a cam kit..trunions..pushrods..etc. Installed a double roller timing chain and melling oil pump..here’s my first question..are you using a melling? If so what did you go with high flow or high pressure? I went with the middle spring I think it was high volume(the chop on the cam is heavy and the oil pressure runs while idling 30/40 it goes with the chop of the cam. So my question is high volume or high pressure did you run? Question 2/ I noticed your car runs hot as well..I changed the thermostat but she still runs around 200/220..running stock fans which seem to throw awesome cfms..but what did you end up doing to cool her down? The thermostat didn’t help much being from Florida..
When your car gets up to full temp on idle what’s your oil pressure?
If you can reply cool if not I’ll try and find the answer in your channel. Either way nice ride man..I still have to get my car tuned so I’m not really stressing the heat right now..I also may wire my fans to a switch and override the ECM..I got a nice 3 core rad for her but for some odd reason she didn’t like it I ended using a stock radiator…next on my list is s trans cooler and oil cooler. I have a high flow melling in this car. I haven’t done anything to really combat the heat. After my most recent tune the car started to run normal temps around 180-190 so maybe something in the tune helped it out.
At idle at operating temp my car has around 45-50 psi and while driving it’s around 60.

@@walkerhaules thank for the reply man, I seen your headers were wrapped im probably going to wrap mine in the near future I take a laser temp gauge and those suckers get hot 400+ degrees..also I think I’m going to switch out my spring in my melling for the higher flow..I went with the middle spring I think it was green..idles at temp at the chop of the cam around 30-40 and when driving or getting on it it’s thru 75+..I just don’t like to see her get anywhere near 30..anyways man keep thanks for the reply good luck and keep us posted if you make any changes as far as cooling goes. 🤙🏻

What cam and torque converter did you go with my cam is the 585/585 Lyft and my torque converter is a 2700 stall I upped the injection to 34bms with forged, Molly, pistons gap 24 all the way around I don’t know what kind of horsepower gonna get because I haven’t gotten back yet
BTR stage 3 cam i can’t think of the specs off the top of my head. FTI 3600 converter. I definitely need injectors next at WOT my duty cycle is at 98% so almost maxed out. I did pistons as well and make mid 400’s on a good day. Tune needs some work hoping to bring the number up a bit after all kinks are worked out

Beautiful car and I'm glad you young kids are out keeping gasoline engines alive because one day we will not have them or at least not have total control over them like we do now. To get to my point I really don't think you have anywhere near 500 horsepower. My guess is somewhere in the 300s. To be honest it looked very slow and the fact that the tires won't even break loose wouldn't make sense if you had 500 horsepower. Even 500 to the crank you're spinning 99% of tires . Like I said though it's a beautiful car and it does sound amazing add idle.
Thanks a ton! Definitely not 500 hp it realistically is right at 380 but the tune was terrible i had in this video so it was really underpowered. Tune is straight now and it will sling the tires off no brakes required! Thanks for watching

Start with a cam and supporting mods. Don’t cheap out on a single thing you will regret it. Take your time getting parts. Heads are the next step. Ported 799’s work great with a cam on this motor.
converter, trans cooler, longtubes, tune. Get some decent rear tires and you will run 12s or high 11s

Speed Engineering. I have their long tube headers paired with their catless full exhaust. Fits perfectly sounds great and one of the cheaper options!

It’s got pistons, stage 3 cam, lifters, heads. Basically everything besides crank. Yeah it does have a little exhaust leak at the clamp hood catch lol

Your was doing like 60!of course I had the 6speed, but still…. You don’t have 450-500hp either. Probably no better than 420 at the wheels if it’s still an LS1…. For N/A LS engines you need a 4inch bore block or bigger that will take the higher flowing heads to get more than low 400hp. I had these cars for 10 years and studied everything about them. Even with the best heads, magic stick4 or whatever cam, headers, intake….these cars never made much more than 420-450 rwhp without power adder. However, with a turbo or pro charger and a big shot of the giggle juice, these These cars can get into the 700-800 hp range pretty easy. And even though that’s not as much as today’s factory killers, the T/A would still beat them in a street race, if there is a driver mod added to the mix. As I’m typing I hear you say 6.0 heads? Do you have a 4in bore block? If so, based on how it sounds I’d say a good tune is all it needs to make big power. But anyway, good to see young guys keeping the LS flame burning. Now go research tee tree oil and get some for that upper lip. You can thank me later

Pistons rods port polished heads big cam comp ultra gold rockers, all supporting mods. 3600 FTI converter built 4l60. Plan is nitrous after i get these bugs worked out. I don't want to be a Debbie downer but no way it's making 490rwhp... I don't think even 450rwhp like said in video. Maybe you meant crank? Looks like you're just full exhaust and a cam that's it. Also you put 6.0 heads? So 317 castings I'm assuming. It probably dropped your compression down to around 9.5-1... under 10.1 for sure. If I had to guess you're probably like 380-400 at the wheels. You still have a factory lid.
Not sure what your plans on with the car if looking at staying NA or boost but lmk if you need any suggestions. I've been in the 4th gen fbody game since 1999 I've probably owned 20 plus fbodys and 20 plus c5/c6 corvettes. Good luck keep building.
When i say 500 HP i’m learning more towards crank hp for clickbait! Realistic this set up should put down 400-430 wheel. Whole motor is built, rods,new flat top pistons, cam, ported heads, all supporting mods as well as big converter and shift kit. Just missing the boost! Car hasn’t ran good enough for me to justify that just yet. Want a great running N/A car before i go down that road! Thanks a ton for watching would definitely love more suggestions!
@@walkerhaules I definitely saw a stock intake lid when u had hood open? I'd get an aftermarket lid. At the very least like an slp lid. Or if you're trying to do a max effort NA setup do a fast 102/102 combo, don't pay attention to the guys who say fast 102 too big etc..id skip the 92 fast. Mill the heads down to 60-62cc.... But those 6.0 heads u can't mill that far down. Maybe to 64-66 but still it will bump up your compression.
