      Yeah a slow year of an aging hardware after so many great years is not a problem, they have more than enough in the bank to keep everything running until the next system comes out.
      They will keep releasing small/niche titles/remakes and small games with broad appeal to capitalize on the installed base, to keep a flow of cash and concentrate their efforts in making an easy and smooth transition to the next system.
      There is no reason to get alarmed and do stupid things.
      That said I think it's about time to have a price cut for the switch to push the final unities, at this point their production cost probably is down, they can afford to do so without eating from their profits.

My prediction is we get a tease for the Switch 2 at the end of the September direct and it gets shown in full in its own thing early next year to be released not long after. The issue for Nintendo is you can never tell people in Finance that things aren’t going to be as good as they were last year. Nobody wants to hear sales are going to be lower. Everybody wants to hear sales are going up. When you compare 1/4 of the previous year to the current year people always want to hear things are better. The problem is Nintendo makes video games and systems to play those video games on and eventually you get to a point where you have to release a new system and when you get to that point the market is usually saturated with your old system. they’re simply nobody else to sell the old system too. So that means sell, can’t be as good as they were last year not physically possible. Why would I buy a new system if I already own that same system that the dilemma they faced they couldn’t tell investors were going to sell fewer systems next year so they had to predict better sales, even if they knew sales would not be better. We gamers new sales of systems specifically would be better. We know that sales won’t really pick back up until they release new system and then everything will be purchased and they will have years they will sell everything they make.

    A shame they didn't share any new Switch 2 information. However, the massive decline in Switch sales is secretly fantastic news, cause its putting Nintendo under pressure to reveal the Switch 2 rather sooner than later. And it won't be long till we get some clarity: There is usually always a Direct in September, but I highly doubt we'll get one this year. If September comes and goes and there was no Direct, then its a great sign that they'll show the console probably in late October.

    We’ve also never seen record inflation in the past 3 years... Nintendo isn’t incentivized to drop the price, but bundles; yes.

  • @Patrick-tw7nr
    @Patrick-tw7nr 2 месяца назад +3

    Nintendo used that as a target and even if they don’t hit it, they will be just fine financially.
    Nintendo doesn’t need to do any aggressive price cutting, devaluation of their first party titles in order to get business from consumers. There is a reason Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft aren’t selling their first party titles at a huge discount permanently this generation and is because they don’t have to. Any sales on their games are digital. Physical games are mostly sold at original retail prices for years and barely get a discount during life time on shelf or get one or two print runs and then gone. You see it in stores like Target, Walmart and BB, very little selections and most of the time order online to pickup at store as most of the time they don’t have it in stock.
    Nintendo will still be able to sell their products at full retail price and for the upcoming holiday will just create a bundle for all 3 switch skus without cutting the price, just basically get a free game with purchase of a system.
    I keep hearing about Nintendo Selects 20.00 to 30.00 permanent price games, not happening. If Nintendo wanted to price their evergreen titles at 20.00 to 30.00, they would have done it by now if you look at past consoles sales cycle history. The Switch will be sunset this year and will make room for new console sometime next year. If Nintendo permanently drops price of OG switch it will be after the launch of next Switch as to clear stock of original switch and phase it out as the new hardware starts to establish itself in the market place among consumers.
    The thing that is allowing all of this to happen that wasn’t available years ago is the age of internet and 100s of thousands of content creators and influencers that promote for free Nintendo hardware and software and create fomo for all games and people eat it up. The next generation will only be worse as more creators and influencers push next switch and games so that prices stay inflated for foreseeable future and limit fomo of games and systems then maybe these companies will lower prices of games and hardware over time like it used to be

They never did a revision of the system that benefited those of us who mostly play the system on the dock, other than a minor internal storage space bump. Which more internal storage is great, but I've been waiting for something more. Now I'm at the point of I would not buy a new Switch due to knowing the next gen is on the way. And I'll keep my fingers crossed that the next gen system can play physical Switch games. I've been told that Nintendo said it will play Switch games, but that doesn't tell me physical games. Switch-2 gimmick will be "use any gen1 or gen2 Switch as a second-screen controller". Just like the Wii-U gamepad worked. Pair up to 4 Switches.
    This is the best explanation for why they are adding new themed Switch SKUs and accessories so close to the reveal of the Switch-2.
    Also explains why Zelda WW HD and TP HD haven't been released to switch yet. They want to maintain that second-screen experience that the Wii-U gave for those games.
    Imagine 4 switches paired to a tv connected Switch-2 console, for couch co-op games. They all get the second screen experience (compared to with Wii-U you could only have 1 screen gamepad connected).

    $199 is not impulse buy territory. It will need to go to go lower for that. First price cut to $149 will be this fall, and very late in the Switch's life, long after they have discontinued the OLED and Red Box Switch, and the Switch 2 has been out for a while, the final price cut on the Lite to $99. Hang it up in blister packs in Target and Walmart's checkout lanes, and NOW it becomes an impulse buy for parents for their third kid. "Doesn't your older brothers have a bunch of these games? Here, let's just throw it in the cart." That's how the Switch will pass the PS2.
