some of the people who were in the documentary were invited to see the show at la jolla and were moved , excited and very supportive of their stories having another forum to be heard.
This musical is super underrated...
The score is not your typical Broadway-palooza; it's kind of a playlist that you would play on long road trips, which is wonderful.
Saw this last night...indescribably amazing. It deserves to go far on Broadway!

I expected to be mildly entertained by this musical. It was far more; it was art, musically exploring a variety of human emotions as love and lust, hope and despair. At the finale, the audience rose as one applauding this incredibly fine work.
First row Sunday matinee! Can't wait!

Yes. In previews. I have nothing against anyone putting on a musical, I know it takes a lot of work - but in this case, in my opinion anyway, it just doesn't work on multiple levels. Unless they've significantly altered the book and the songs prior to being at the Atkinson on Broadway, just can't recommend it.

These folks are really self important. This is a musical based on straight nonsense.

Those lyrics are insipid. The music is ridiculous. The concept of turning that documentary into a musical is crass and tacky, and exploitative of decent people and smacks of the worst kind of opportunistic mocking of the working poor. You can just hear the conversation that must have taken place: hey, let's take those "hicks" and turn them into caricatures, imposing the musical format onto them! But we'll make sure not to give ANY royalties to the real people we're exploiting. How awful....
P.S. Which isn't to say others might not enjoy it - I just found it awful and misconceived.
