Moved here from Northern IL in 2018. This video nails the issues in the area. First thing we noticed when getting here was the homeless people everywhere. I know they were around in Chicago but you didn't see it like this. It's one of the things that makes us think about going back to the midwest. I have driven in a lot of places across this country and this area has literally the worst drivers. Everyone is scared of the Interstate Bridge so we go 20mph to the top and smash the gas pedal when we get there. When it rains it is like the first snow in IL every year but it's every time it rains. House prices are insane here for what you get. The way the houses are all crammed together is about the dumbest thing. Instead of giving people nice sized backyards the city planners must just see tax dollars so let's plop a house or 2 in what should be a backyard. All the property crime and the police do nothing about it. I mean what is the point in catching them when they just get released with no charges. I hate the people that say to let them do it because that's why we have insurance. It's all good until you can't get it anymore because you had too many claims due to knuckleheads stealing your stuff. Its just so different here than it was in IL but I love being so close to the mountains & ocean.
It is a nice area minus the crime. I agree, letting them go is ridiculous. And the mob keeps screaming at the cops who do their job. That's why crime is rampant.
I appreciate your honestly about the homeless problem. I currently live across the water in Bellevue and Seattle has the same issues as Portland. I hate to put this so bluntly, but Seattle turned into a hell hole! I don't even go into the city unless I have to meet friends. I just hate it. Lived here for over 24 years and it was never great but it has gone way down hill. We were considering retiring out there in maybe Washougal or Ridgefield but the homeless situation in Vancouver is something I need to consider even though I realize it's not as bad as Portland.
Seattle definitely has lost its luster, I was just up there last month, in the downtown area, and I'm glad I was just passing through. Ridgefield and Washougal are both nice areas to consider, if you ever have any questions about the area, feel free to reach out. Thanks for watching!
I grew up in a small town where there are no museums, no professional sports teams, not many high paying careers, etc and I see Seattle just like Portland the land of opportunities where you can make $$$$$ and have fun!!
I moved here in 2017 and It really sucks here. Homeless people EVERYWHERE. DRUGGIES EVERYWHERE! RUDE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE! People breaking into your cars at night. Randome vandalism to cars at night. No sense of community. RAIN, RAIN, RAIN. Angry people EVERYWHERE. Good luck.
It's a quiet bedroom community. nicer than PDX. Boring with no culture. The only movies they get in Vancouver are like Buffy the Vampire Slayer part 3. It's a former army town, and like most of Washington it just has the military culture.
So basically if you have something to complain about in Vancouver it's really something that is not worth complaining about. Except the weather, it's main purpose is just to give you something to complain about.
Thinking of moving from Florida, definitely want to move to Washington just not sure where yet. I appreciate the video very good information to keep in mind. Just can’t get over the beauty of the city and the surrounding nature. Not much like it in fl
Thanks for watching! Glad you're able to get some good information out of it. Don't hesitate to reach out if you if you have any questions or need anything.
Moved here in 2004 from the East Coast. Parents lived in Florida so I was down there quite a bit. Living here is nice in the summer...May to Sept. The rest of the time it's raining and in winter combo rain and slight snow. So 7 months of gray skies. Very different here. I am thinking of leaving here and going back east. This area has changed so much over the years. Crime is up, police presence is almost non existent. Get into an accident..police don't show up. Homelessness rising , cost of houses and rent very high. It used to be affordable here. It isn't anymore. Utilities, food, gas prices, property taxes, sales tax 8.6%. Summers are nice in most places so visit in the late fall and winter here. See if you could stand living under a constant rain cloud 7 months out of the year.
I just left Florida I hated it it’s such a change up from the Pacific Northwest, I grew up in South Carolina and I knew that it was going to be hot down there but like it’s almost unbearable, it also rains a ton down there throughout the year, that’s what people don’t tell you, & all the people are pretty much assholes, and the drivers are absolutely horrible! if you like going camping forget about it, in Florida unless you have an RV you can’t go camping. Washington is way better overall, landscape wise, the people here are nice, there’s so much stuff to do, plus you won’t go to jail for a little bit of weed.
The housing prices really are quite ridiculous. From 500K plus for buying a home to 1800 plus to rent a home, they really are pricing out the average waged people making less than 2500 a month from owning or renting a home.
This is exactly it except I saw you holding back. Lol. I moved from California here in like 2000 and I want the eff out already. God speed the devil's thunder.
I've lived here since 93' myself, and it was much better then. Now, everybody and their mother keep moving here, making it a fucking nightmare just to get groceries. The only plus about the huge influx of people moving here is that the value of my house has more doubled. Vancouver sucks dead babies assholes.
@@matthewwelsh294 - that is not a very exciting list. Vancouver is a really boring place. Too many Liberal women in control now and the place is a disaster.
WOW! You hit the nail on the head with this video. You described all the negative aspects to a tee! Drug abuse is also a major problem. Gangs and crime are coming in from Portland. The homeless problem, tent camps, and crazy vagabonds rummaging through garbage is getting worse and the city isn't curtailing it. Vancouver is really going downhill and I'm glad I left. You said you've lived there all your life and probably have heart strings tied to the area, but man, don't be afraid to move somewhere else where the quality of life is so much better. There are so many better places in the USA to raise a family and make more money as a realtor. A lot of Vancouver natives are in a rut and don't realize it.
Thanks for watching Ben! There is a lot of truth when it comes to that sentimental connection to the area. There's a lot of family history here for me, plus I love the convenience of the area. I can live in a rural area but be minutes to town. In an hour I can either be at the beach or the mountains. In 20 mins I can be at PDX to catch a flight anywhere I want to travel. So it is hard seeing myself leave the area.
@@livinginvanwashington I hear ya, and I get it. But sincerely, go out and travel more. Do some research, pick an area, go check it out for a week. Next 7-10 months do it again. Make it an informational vacation. If you're married, take your spouse. I'm telling ya first hand, we get in ruts very easy and think nothing is better than our sphere of what we've come to know in our comfort zone. Until you see and experience other places outside of this, it's hard to understand. Travel, Travel, Travel!! You'll see. You'll love other places, then the real truth will be evident.

You would think that Vancouver Washington was California with the prices and housing and taxes going through the roof cost of living going through the roof. This is insanity and I wish no one to come over here because they will go broke and never have any money to enjoy their life or their retirement!. There is literally nothing to do in Vancouver Washington unless you go to the store, if you go shopping on the waterfront and that's pretty much it and hitting some nice restaurants but other than that, not much happening at all, and the prices are outrageous and it's Criminal!. When I first moved to Vancouver Washington 26 years ago, it was cheap to live here and now I'm paying five times more than money to live. We actually get very hot summers!. If you want to rent a two-bedroom apartment you're going to pay $1,500 for a simple basic apartment and one level up you're going to be paying $1,825 and for a three-bedroom you can pay up to $2,500 to live in an apartment this is Criminal!!.😡😡
Good to know. Retired, living in Seattle suburb city and paying 1,850 for 1bdrm apt before parking and utilities. Was going to explore Vancouver, Camas and east of downtown Portland. Sounds almost as high and will probably reconsider. Thx.
I will never drive to Downtown Portland. Always take the MAX!!
