    The Chelsea League Cup and PSG CL games were really tough losses and could easily have gone in our favour and made the season look much better. That plus the injuries have made the season very exhausting at times.

    The only negative for me is that many of the lows seem to occur at crucial moments with or without injuries. We are trying to change the bottling culture within the club. It’s not easy just ask Tottenham.

    I think when you take into account our horrendous injury list this season, the fact that Liverpool bounced back this season and both Chelsea and Man U spent about half a billion each last summer then I would argue that this turned out to be a pretty good season. We were a dodgy VAR call away from getting out of the champions league group and a Trippier howler in the last minute v Chelsea from a potential cup final

    FFP/PSR has been put in place to stop anyone joining the top 6 Cartel. That is what we are battling against. That's the economic macro. How the team performs is the micro.
    We are fighting against a stacked deck that can only be overcome incrementally by the owners increasing our revenue year by year. Basically what Alex said at the beginning. The PL and Cartel have stitched us up.

      Sadly I think the fact that villa have been in the top 4 all season and were fighting other top teams for Europe places just makes the league owners look better with their decision making. Like if it was the usual top 6 finish and us and villa outside there would be so much more uproar throughout the league. The reality is the league could have been turned on it's head without the PSR rules ect. But the Masters will sit there and say "look at the league this season, it's fine!"
      However if the rules did stay the same for next year, it would be alot worse looking! Thank fuck they're changing it! 🙌

    Season only a step backwards if you think we achieved what we should have by right last season. For me last season we had two perfect storms, World Cup break was huge for us with our limited squad and we had hardly any injuries. This seasons consistency has been inconsistency, most memorable season in recent times but also a terrible set of circumstances against us

    Next season is going to be very interesting and surprising for alot of people.

    I agree with Charlotte that the coach is limited. No plan B. Doesnt change the shape enough and rarely any tactical in game changes. That also costs us at times this season. Injuries to an extent plays a part but havent seen enough there to see he learns from mistakes. Run of games is an excuse imo we have to be able to handle it if we are to progress. Even if we play defensively and come out with a point. I agree with Charlotte that tactical approach was naive

    • @JRHunter1993
      @JRHunter1993 3 месяца назад

      Changed the shape and tactics multiple times, what are you on about? We played city in the cup and pep said on camera to Eddie, "that's not how you usually play"... No it wasn't, because we tried to adapt to getting a boring win. Not Eddie's fault if the players can't perform well enough in that style with a hugely depleted squad. We've played 4 at the back, we've played 3 at the back, we've played 5 at the back, hell we've had the entire team back defending at times. We've had one upfront we've had 2 upfront we've played with inverted wingers, outverted wingers, defensive midfielders, flat line midfielders. What more change do you want? We can't expect the team to perform every single game or win every single game... Yet we've competed in almost every contest and won the vast majority. Howe may not have all the answers right now but fuck me he's been trying! He's had the hardest job of Amy manager in almost any league at any time! And where are we? JUST outside the top 6. Chill chill chill.
      You think other managers could do better whilst giving us that entertainment value? Many have came and tried. People speak down on Rafa because his football was deemed "boring" despite him having a higher success rate than most previous managers for about 10 years! 😤 This fan base is cruel and unforgiving aswell as very VERY impatient.
      We could have done alot better given better circumstances, but I've loved every minute of this season because Howe has showed us almost every week what we can do and I'm very impressed by what we've shown.

    We are going to have to have a mentality shift from next season as a fan base .. we have to become ruthless and take points and wins from situations where everything isn’t going our way AND when they are, be professional and keep going for the jugular rather than the silly “Ole Ole’s” that go around when we are a few up .. players like Bruno and Isak won’t stay for long if we remain happy to be in the mix.. the hardest shift is between competing and winning consistently.

      Absolutely bang on the money Charlotte. No plan B and when teams work us out they cut through us at will. A refusal to play a proper no 6 is Howes Achilles heal for me and he doesn’t show any signs of learning by his many selection errors. Many think he will take us to the next level, I’m afraid I can’t see it and next season will decide who’s right one way or another.

  • @andrewtate3976

    I feel it's a season of so many 'what ifs'.
    Too many goals conceded is a concern compared to the previous season where we were so solid. As howe says it starts from the front. Teams got us figured out that we're not that good yet at playing through the lines - put pressure on us and we have to go long. A meek and lightweight frontline who can't win flick-ons and hold the ball up just turns over possession back to the opposition and then we're constantly on the back foot.
    Funny we had an effective player on our books that would of given us this extra option of going long and a physical presence. He also stayed reasonably fit, was experienced and would of been perfect to relieve the pressure on our injury prone frontline. Howe didn't even want him to go. He also got double figures in poor struggling forrest team. How many would he of got for us whilst also giving others a breather from 70 mins?
    Not saying he would of solved all our problems of course but a player like chris wood could of been very handy this season in putting ambit more pressure in the opposition half.

    This was the first poor season under the new regime and make no mistake it was a poor season, albeit with a great deal of mitigation.
    Our away form has been an absolute disaster and some of the games were thrown away due to mistakes on and off the field.
    Even with all the injuries 4th place was not an unrealistic expectation. We are 8 points behind Villa, think about all the terrible results against really poor teams, that would have made that easily achievable.
    Tonali owes us a big season and hopefully we will add a few strong players to the squad. We need a striker, a right sided attacking player and a keeper. We could do with a few more but FFP will be a constraint so free transfers might be our best option.
    Eddie Howe will be working towards next season already and I really hope he figures out what went wrong tactically because the big 6 will all be spending.

I can't see anyone in Australia or anywhere in the far east wanting a replica United strip after today's display. Apparently Man Utd and Barcelona put out a full senior team when they visited previously. Is that why their merchandising is worth hundreds of millions every year. I repeat, bad move Eddy!!!

    So there's a huge contradiction in this video. If the teams we're competing with have so much more resources than us, and we're still competing with them irrespective of that fact then we're doing great.
    You can't then say if Chelsea get top 4, ignoring PSR... Well, I'm sorry, we can't ignore that fact. Chelsea have spent so much, they have more resources of your own admission. They should theoretically be above us. Could we have finished above them? Obviously, but our position is where we deserved to finished? And that's not a lack of ambition, before anyone starts talking about changing mentality. I want us to win things, but I actually think part of the issue with a lot of our (mostly online) fans is that they expect us to win something imminently.
    Our build will be a slow build. We can't splurge our money and utilise the resources we would have if it wasn't for FFP/PSR, so these things are going to happen.
    Given context, this season has been more impressive than last season.

    • @ListerWalkthroughs
      @ListerWalkthroughs 3 месяца назад

      And to expand. I understand that Alex is saying we should be taking advantage... But these teams we're competing with have had 15 years head start on us. If you consider the foundation that Eddie started with compared to the foundation Ten Haag started with. Which foundation cost more? Which foundation was better at football? Context is so important and I think the negativity in this video was way too focused upon.

    • @ListerWalkthroughs
      @ListerWalkthroughs 3 месяца назад

      And in regards to the topic of wages. It requires context again. When a team comes in to buy one of our very shitty players (so already we're at a disadvantage) the shitty player has no obligation to leave. We're still paying them, and the new team likely isn't going to give Jeff Hendrick the same wages as we are... So why would he drop his wages substantially? These issues are caused by how poorly we were run by Mike Ashley. And we won't see true true squad depth until we're able to see the back of those players.
      And not to mention, we will ALWAYS need the Longstaffs, the Andersons, the Dummetts. Because we need those players who have been raised in our academy for European football. Naturally, as time goes on you hope that level increases, but we need those players to exist in the squad.

    We are at the mercy of the big 6 clubs, the vultures are circling for our better players. Arsenal fans are obsessed with isak and bruno and man utd fans are talking about selling anthony and replacing him with Gordon. Any of those could leave if they think they wont achieve what they want at Newcastle. The fans emplore patience which is fair but unless tangible progress is made the players may want to move. Im extremely concerned we will loose isak to arsenal. Being patient doesn't keep the best players at the club, it never ever has.
