  • Charlotte is joined by Si, Mick, and Jon to discuss the bitter disappointment of Man U coming good yesterday to deny Newcastle European football next season. We discuss:
How we feel about the season now we have failed to quaiify
Are NUFC still a 'smaller club' - or being run like one
    Are there any positives?!?!
Where does this leave us financially?

I don't understand the gloom. We finished 3 places below last season which was accepted to be over achievement. So maybe 6th was where we belonged. Factor in our injuries and this seaaon is just about par. No Europe is MILDLY disappointing, but not exactly devastating.

"Yasir Al-Rumayyan said we wanted to be number one... well do something about it" - like what? He can't put money into the club, he can't magic up a sponsor that's above the value of what the PL deem fit. Amanda Stavley said we would win the PL within 10 years and you're expecting miracles after 2.5 seasons.

    • @BaronSpamedi

The biggest problem on display here are the entirely unrealistic expectations, and their massive overestimation of where Newcastle actually are compared to the 'big 6', and big European clubs.

    • @BaronSpamedi
      @BaronSpamedi 2 месяца назад +4

@goatfather5711 Yes. It was ludicrous. They actually have been increasing our revenue quite significantly. They've also massively improved our situation in terms of sponsorship deals and partnerships. There is also clear evidence of them trying to improve fan engagement overseas.

This is a SMALL CLUB mentality, and it needs to go. Ever wonder why fans of the successful clubs are so annoying? It's because they EXPECT to win. If you want Toon to be up there then the fanbase needs to get a little arrogant and entitled.

  • @jimmyhillschin9987

I get the disappointment, but I'm seeing too many fans seem to be becoming like fans of other 'big' clubs who think their team has a right to win. OK, some results were disappointing, but I remember when Man Utd won their first title after decades they only beat Sheffield United at home with two injury time goals from, of all people, Steve Bruce. Opposition teams are also trying to win: and sometimes they succeed.
As for signings, the club is obviously seeking to address the top-heavy nature of the squad inherited from Ashley, infusing it with young players who take time to properly mature. Given PSR rules, you're either buying Livramentos and Halls or proven top level journeymen like Chris Wood. I know which I would prefer now that Premier League safety is no longer an issue.

Mistakes have been made and hopefully lessons will be learned, whether that is in the transfer market, playing injured players, playing players out of position etc.
Hopefully we can stave off those clubs interested in Isak and Bruno while off loading those players we had to keep because of European football rules.

Nearly half a billion gone, no European competition of any kind at all, the vultures circling for our better players, no ruthlessness from the club and fans that excuse everything away. Club rivals that have achieved more than Newcastle have had bad seasons in their fans and boards eyes and changes have been made, meanwhile our fans think eddie is Alex Ferguson, we are trapped in a small club mentality and it could be a long time before the fans free themselves from the eternal gratitude they feel is warrented just for employees of the club that do their job that they are employed to do.

Well aren't you a sour misery.
Rome wasn't built in a day. Its been 3.5yrs. We're in the most competitive league in world football. Hamstrung by what came before us in terms of investment throughout the football club. We started from a long way back and have overachieved mostly. Given the horrendous injuries we've sustained and the no show of Tonali we have done fantastically well to stay sniffing around the top half of the league. It's all experience and I believe we will kick on again.
Cheer up its a helluva ride HWTL

Think it’s actually 2years 7 months. First 7 months was avoiding relegation. Year 1 finished 4th qualified first champions league year 2 finished 7th against backdrop of massive injury problems & being cheated in Paris. Year 3 ie next season massive - think target must be to finish in top 4 & maybe win a cup? Think we can achieve it but important we keep Bruno & Isak.

The fact that we can talk about aiming for top 6 or maybe 4 next season with confidence just proves you're wrong. With everything against us like it has been, we can't ask for much more. Next season with no distractions is going to help us massively if we can keep the players we've got. Eddie Howe wasn't brought in to win us the league, he was obviously going to stabilise and then start driving up the league and that's what he's doing. Let's just hope they can pull something off next season because otherwise the vultures will truly be circling 🙄

The honeymoon period from the takeover is well and truly over. I think that there have been some really poor decisions made by the Club. In terms of the team development, I have been and remained positive, this positivity is now waning. The Champions League came too soon and this has taken the focus off of team building. I absolutely love Eddie Howe and what he has done. It really feels like next season could be his last, regardless of all of our injury problems. I hope that I’m wrong but my gut feeling is that the Club will possibly look to recruit a new manager next season if we don’t come out of the blocks. This summer transfer window is pivotal. We need to stop acting like a team that’s just been promoted. We are currently in a period of stagnation. #howaythemags 🖤🤍

Story of our season; just not getting the results we needed when it mattered, for whatever reason. Even grinding our way to a European place via league position wasn't enough to get into Europe. Fighting the world is exhausting. Based on UEFA's own rules, Man Utd should be booted out of the Europa league because INEOS also own Nice who have already qualified for the same competition and finished their season in a higher league position, but they won't. Chelsea should be booted out of Europe altogether because they basically sold their own training ground to themselves for a grossly inflated fee to dodge FFP/PSR, but they won't. Apart from those naughty villa boys being a fly in the ointment, normal service has almost resumed, with the "big six" back at the top of the tree and taking all of the domestic trophies (and all of the dolla) between them, and the PL suits will be delighted. The silver lining in the cloud of having no football friends whatsoever, is that when we eventually have our snouts in the trough on a regular basis at the expense of one of the cartel, it will taste so much sweeter.
