Interesting point about Altered Beast, and yeah you're right, it's a horror game. I'm guessing we never thought of it that way because the color palette is bright, pastel in parts, so it looks more like a Kirby game than Splatterhouse. Also the player is powerful.
Strong content here, I don't know if anyone has pointed this out to you though, so if they have I apologize. When a game has been placed onto a cartridge, that is not a ROM hack. A ROM hack refers to a game ROM that has been altered in the coding of the game to make it different in terms of the actual game itself, not the media on which it is played. For example, the earthbound Halloween hack, that's a ROM hack.
Great video, you have a very calm voice without the need to yell or be over-animated which is nice, and all of these were cool picks. My absolute favorite Genesis game is Haunting.
I love playing Splatterhouse 2 on October leading towards Halloween. While not on your list, I always thought Jurassic Park had an atmosphere of horror with dino monsters about.
I loved Warlock as a kid. It's a very underrated cinematic platformer imo, and there's a rom hack that makes it 6-button so the controls are way better and you can switch magic easier.
@@DamienTheHedgehogOfficial There's a video here on RUclips where he takes his kids to the old Sega building before it gets destroyed. His kids are somewhat young for him to be in prison.
Well done! Super interesting video. If I can make a suggestion? Re-record audio when you stumble through words. I think it can make the difference between a sub or not
Two headed wolves!!!!! I see it!!!! My God man, I played this game all the time when I was young and all these years I thought they were bulls!!!!!! Also, I can't remember the name of the Japanese game you showed with the woman shooting the blue energy blasts but that game had a western version that I owned but you played as the man instead of the woman
I Love Bram Stokers Dracula for Sega CD, also Poltergeist is great. Zombies Ate my Neighbors and it's sequel (Ghoul Patrol) are awesome!! Played those games so much as a young teen
Fuck Chakan, it's a terrifying game, haha. Also great to see someone on YT not follow the trend of dissing the excellent Altered Beast! Yeah I think AB flirts with horror; I mean, you fight a mountain of graves and you see a greek goddess get crucified. The elements are there!
Great list. Quite a few I've never heard of. I wish you would have included timestamps and leveled the audio better though. Still, awesome undertaking. Must have been a lot of work.
I have all these games on my Sega emulator and I highly enjoyed playing the Scooby Doo game it had the cartoonish feel to it and there's actually two more titles that were made as well.
It keeps impressing me how you cover quality games I haven't heard of. I've been collecting for 11 years and admin on several retro gaming sites, watching video reviews etc. How can this be??
Running late on comment however Halloween is about a week from now👍Very cool also considering happen to have every game made for Genesis/MegaDrive on emulator 🎮 Can refer to ones hadnt played yet right from here 🎃👻
I bought my AT Games Genesis ( AV output version ) and it has over 40 Genesis games built-in for just under 40 , , ,not bad even works with classic Genesis controllers , , , SplatterHouse-2 is one of the built-in games , , great find for budget Gamer like me , , ,😸👍👍
What a great list of classics! On a very grim note, Ooze might not be a perfect game, but turning into a living slime is probably the most realistic mutation from radioactive exposure.
On the list the only games I consider horror are the Splatterhouse games. They are the only games with horror elements at every corner; the music, atmosphere, creatures, game play, tension... everything. Other games MUST have some loos screws here and there that ruins the horror feel that makes them more of thrillers, not horror. Nothing like that in Splatterhouse unless one comes up with some to loosen the stress back when we were kids with big imagination.
What I liked about AlienStorm was that it came with a John Carpenter’s The Thing vibe in a time when everybody else was milking it hard with xenomorph knockoffs
Alien Storm just kicks ass, people always talk like it's not a good game....give me a break. I spent so many quarters on the arcade machine and I played the hell out of the Genesis version as a teen
Action 52... Yeah it's pretty terrifying alright. I'm pretty sure playing that is a punishment in Hell. Good list, I have played quite a few of these. Some of the film based games like Alien 3 were a pleasant surprise, being far better than the source material.
The first Splatterhouse was released in arcades, then ported to the TurboGrafx as you mentioned, plus there's Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti for the Famicom, which dropped in 1989, followed by Splatterhouse 2 and 3 in 1992 and 1993 respectively for Sega Genesis.
Ghouls n ghosts is ten times harder then modern dark souls i can't even make it past the first level I've even played ghouls n ghosts on arcade machine when it first came out
Interesting point about Altered Beast, and yeah you're right, it's a horror game. I'm guessing we never thought of it that way because the color palette is bright, pastel in parts, so it looks more like a Kirby game than Splatterhouse. Also the player is powerful.
Thanks for watching 👀
I met the writer for chakan at a comic con, he gave me a copy of the comic he did, nice guy.
Cool!
CHAKAN THE FOREVER MAN
Robert Kraus is a very nice guy, I talk to him quite a bit on facebook. Very fan appreciative

Thanks 👍I appreciate the heads up.
My little brother and I used to play Haunting for hours.
Fun fact: the isometric house view inspired the housing in The Sims!
"Here's a few honorable mentions."
Mentions nothing for 20 minutes.
Absolute chad.
😂😂😂😂
Mary Shelly is an author ..she wrote the book..
Great video, you have a very calm voice without the need to yell or be over-animated which is nice, and all of these were cool picks. My absolute favorite Genesis game is Haunting.
Glad you enjoyed!
Sega graphics just hit different. Absolutely loved that system.
I love playing Splatterhouse 2 on October leading towards Halloween. While not on your list, I always thought Jurassic Park had an atmosphere of horror with dino monsters about.
Agreed! That game always had me on edge.
I'm sorry im not sure i believe you.... no one enjoys splatter house 2.
@@DavidGourlay-c7s i enjoy splatterhouse 2 for nostalgia reasons.
Can’t lie, Splatterhouse was the biggest disappointment in video game history! I’d rather play BONKS ADVENTURES…
Outstanding video many thanks one of my favourite horror games on the megadrive was Chakan The Forever Man!
Glad you enjoyed!
@@rareplaygaming7109 😎👍🏻
Chakan along with poltergeist are My favorite Sega games as a kid
A wonderful video of multiple reviews of games for our beloved SEGA Genesis. :^)
Thank you very much for sharing.
Definitly rewatchable.
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching!
Love this kind of recopilation! I'm suscribing to your channel
Glad you enjoyed!
Awesome list, even includes some games I didn't think of like Valis.
Devil Crash is one of my fav Genesis game
I loved Warlock as a kid. It's a very underrated cinematic platformer imo, and there's a rom hack that makes it 6-button so the controls are way better and you can switch magic easier.
I rented that game and it was so scary trying to play it as a kid
@@artremedy587 Yeah I got up to the castle area but never beat it. Judging from magazine screenshots, the final boss is nightmare fuel.
Let's all thank tec toy for prolonging the life of Sega!

Dracula's coach driver IS Dracula himself according to the book.
Cool, I didn't know that👍
Alien 3 on Sega Genesis is really good.
Splatter House 3 was the most terrifying horror game ever on sega. And its the best Splatterhouse game in my opinion.
I played that in 5th grade and that shit gave me nightmares. Especially the cutscenes in the 2nd stage.
Fun fact- Yuji Naka, the programmer of Ghouls and Ghosts, was just sentenced to two years in prison for insider trading!
I wouldn't call that Fun fact. Just a fact, man that's depressing. 😢
Bro, he was one of the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog.
@@DamienTheHedgehogOfficial He also created Girl's Garden for the SG 1000. :)
At least two years is better than five… 🤦🏿

I miss the 90s

Nightmare circus looks very difficult
I think he forgot Zombie Ate My Neighbors.
Great content. I love the feel here...Subbed!!
Glad you enjoyed!
The immortal was a brutally hard game
Two headed wolves!!!!! I see it!!!! My God man, I played this game all the time when I was young and all these years I thought they were bulls!!!!!! The Sega CD Frankenstein is crazy with lots of weird genre mixing, not sure if the Genesis one has it as I haven't played it
I've seen reviews for the Sega CD Frankenstein and it definitely looks cool. Anything with Tim Curry is gonna be awesome.
This video makes me want to go to Blockbuster on Friday when I finish my homework.
It was so strange to see Gargoyles again, man it was awesome
Fuck Chakan, it's a terrifying game, haha. Also great to see someone on YT not follow the trend of dissing the excellent Altered Beast! Yeah I think AB flirts with horror; I mean, you fight a mountain of graves and you see a greek goddess get crucified. The elements are there!

You called the character in immortal an unamed wizard literally as screen named him dunric lol, really enjoyed the video though
I just suscribed, greetings from México
Thanks for subbing!
Great video, a few games here I'd never heard of
Nice one brother! Good luck with the Algorithm.
I have all these games on my Sega emulator and I highly enjoyed playing the Scooby Doo game it had the cartoonish feel to it and there's actually two more titles that were made as well.
Chakan
Ghouls and Ghosts (best version was for the SNES)
Splatterhouse Series (SH was the BEST HORROR game for the Genesis)
Didn't notice Wolfchild in this list, unless I missed it
Chakan is my all time favorite, but altered beast was awesome too.
Immortal is the bomb!
Nightmare Circus looks cool.
I guess Prey wasn't the first game that had a Native American Hero.
It keeps impressing me how you cover quality games I haven't heard of. I've been collecting for 11 years and admin on several retro gaming sites, watching video reviews etc. How can this be??

What a great list of classics! On a very grim note, Ooze might not be a perfect game, but turning into a living slime is probably the most realistic mutation from radioactive exposure.
Altered Beast was t1st Genesis game, it was set up in a K Mart, just to play for free, see what the Genesis was about
Splatterhouse 3 gave me nightmares back then
Great retrospective love it
Loved Chakan. Rock N Roll Racing and Mutant League Hockey
Risky woods looks fun. I'll check it out.
It's a classic, hope you enjoy!
Well, you are right, it is good list, indeed, if i would be made to play Dark castle for Genesis, i would be terrified...)
Your ladder descent and subsequent Alien encounter didn't go as planned did it 😅
Wouldn't call it a classics, but it was alright in it's day
Thank you Rare Play Gaming for subscribing to me
I guess that's "not common" of you to subscribe.... Get it?
Splatterhouse 2 is the best horror game on the Megadrive. Fact.

Ahh, Chakan was the Avatar.
What about Zombies Ate My Neighbors...?
Rusky Woods was originally made for the Amiga.
The car outside is on and theres a man listening watching and thinking Most likely there is a man in the car guarding the innocent from those in error
That was hands-down the worst playing of Ghouls and Ghosts I've ever seen in my life.
That's because you never saw me play 😂 I'm worse!
Played a bunch of the Ooze on Sega channel, think i even beat one time.
BTW I think Bio Hazard Battle and Gynoug might also belong on this list.
Splatter house 3 baby.
Interesting. And awesome.
The iMovie can’t believe I finally found the game immortals I played it when I was so young
Action 52... Yeah it's pretty terrifying alright. I'm pretty sure playing that is a punishment in Hell.
Good list, I have played quite a few of these. Some of the film based games like Alien 3 were a pleasant surprise, being far better than the source material.
Played Alien 3 heavily as a kid, great mention
There's two tracks on Action 52 that are absolute bangers! Best thing about the game is those two songs!
Cool content
This video is scary. Why isn't this part the Jason franchise?
O Splatterhouse do PC Engine me parece ser um jogo diferente. Mesmo assim, muito bom! A versão que tenho, a máscara é vermelha!
O do PC Engine é o primeiro. No Mega Drive tem o 2 e o 3
I'm surprised that you didn't mention Blades of vengeance
I just checked our Blades Of Vengeance after I saw your comment. Your absolutely right, definitely meets the criteria to be on a horror list.
is the ooze about that movie about a thing that lives in the sewer and when it rains it expands and eats people
I think you may be half forgotten one Splatterhouse I know it was on turbo Graphics 16 which I have it and they think I had they had one for Sega
The immortal is on ps5 classics! I had it on Sega Genesis and it was hard.
First! Your channel rocks
Yeah... I'll stick to roms thank you 😂
Ghouls n ghosts is ten times harder then modern dark souls i can't even make it past the first level I've even played ghouls n ghosts on arcade machine when it first came out

it is not that i do not want to read a music dictionary it is that i do not have any digital money ever and i already read a dictionary

Altered beast easy?? That thing is impossible for me to beat.
timestamps or list?
Remember slaughterhouse 1 2 and 3
