    For people that are watching this now and are unaware of what is currently happening...
    The Scarborough LRT was canceled and instead we are getting a Subway extension of line 2
    Shepherd east line has been canceled (nothing official yet but hopefully we get a Shepherd Subway extension in the future)
    The Eglinton Crosstown and Finch line both are expected to open early next year
    The new Ontario line has been approved for construction as well as an extension to the Eglinton line

      My idea is that if ttc wants to make a light rail on sheppard, first close eglinton to sheppard yonge so they can connect the Eglinton lrt trains to the sheppard line (because they already have a connecting tunnel) then close the sheppard line for a few years so they can lower the platforms for the lrt. then make the sheppard extension instead of sheppard east line, put 1 maintenance yard somewhere and instead of "line 4 subway" its the "line 4 sheppard lrt (SLRT)

    They should make them privately owned and operated and separately fared through Presto at a profit. That would make each ride about $50 for 2 hours unlimited on average. Then people would begin to realize the actual costs of transit.

    Sheppard subway should be converted to a lrt and extend it east above grade from Don mills out to Scarborough Town Centre and connect with the BD subway extension. Also extend Out west as a lrt to Downsview station that way there is all 5 rail lines are connected

    • @nate8892
      @nate8892 5 лет назад +2

      Tbh, the Sheppard Subway should have always been LRT. Other than the Sheppard@Yonge(which already has a line 1 Subway Station) and Scarborough Centre, the rest of Sheppard does not have the density to justify a subway. Mind you, converting a subway into LRT...yeah that would be alot harder than you think. Anyway, you have a good point. We really dont need "Subways, subways, subways!". We need transit, transit, transit!

    LRT's in general are a waste of everything. Subways are the way to go.

    • @Skyfoogle

      LRTs are the in-between for buses and subways and have the best cost to benefit ratio. LRTs should go wherever buses are strained but subways aren't financially viable.

    LRT? Ewww, im a transit advocate from NYC, Toronto needs SUBWAYS, they are faster and offer the most capacity, the union does not think straight, I've never heard of LRTs that run about the same distance as what a subway would, just raise and widen the platforms and BAM ! SUBWAY!

    • @ursusteddicus
      @ursusteddicus 10 лет назад +7

      Actually the speed is quoted to be roughly similar to subways because they have dedicated lines and fewer stops.

    • @zehan2316
      @zehan2316 9 лет назад +4

      If you were to build a cross-Bronx line, would you build a subway (completely underground)?
      Pretty much the situation in Toronto. Notice that pretty much all NY subway lines go through Manhattan.

    • @HesJustSteven
      @HesJustSteven 9 лет назад

      Ze Han Actually the MTA would do a subway, we have subways under MAJOR highways and thoroughfares, the E train travels under the Van Wyck Expressway at some point and the B and D trains go underneath the Grand Concourse , and the 6 travels underneath and next to the Sheridan Expressway for two stops

    • @HesJustSteven
      @HesJustSteven 9 лет назад

      Ze Han And also the TTC is going to build them underground using the same gauge as the subway

    • @zehan2316
      @zehan2316 9 лет назад +5

      Yeah, for a portion, but the rest is above ground. And, the light rail lines will be standard gauge - different from the TTC gauge. But not to fear, I think a very good model we can follow is the german Stadtbahn model, and the Paris Tramway. Especially the Paris tramway - I mean, they connect suburb-to-suburb very well - many more people than the current Sheppard subway we have - while running on the street.
      The reason why our Sheppard subway is so short is because of cost - it got cut short, so we now have a subway that goes to IKEA - and is sucking away money quite fast.
      I mean, we shouldn't shut out any possibilities - subways, light rail, streetcars, buses. Hundreds of other cities - big cities - have light rail (even the New York area - NJ Transit), and Toronto isn't a special snowflake, so it's not unprecedented. We can learn from a lot of other people.

    • @Hrkkkfoskseieiehreig
      @Hrkkkfoskseieiehreig 8 лет назад

      First of all, Chicago built its el system in the 1890's, the state street subway was built in the 1940's, second, London Underground is built majority above ground, in fact the first line was a trench with a roof over it in some sections, simply because it was the 1860's when it was bully, thirdly Paris is was denser the toronto and it surrounding areas have over 10 million and guess what it to has above ground sections! And finally the young subway line when completed in 1954 was ABOVE ground from bloor to eglinton! Obviously st-Clair to davisville was covered. And ur the fool simply because u did state multiple time that above ground transit has to run on the surface, interfering with traffic. If u agreed with me on that then we wouldn't be have this conversation, it's the same reason why I've stated so many point is to show u what I mean! So CLEARLY u dont know this topic and are retarded.
