  • B-segment? C-segment? Does it matter?
    A more important question: is it fair to hand the S70 some points purely because it's "not another SUV"?
    Those were Jim's exact thoughts while first sampling Proton's newest four-door sedan, one that was unofficially known for so long to Malaysians as the S50, a potential return to form for lovers of the Preve, Waja, Wira and beyond.
    Following the surprise name reveal and an unexpected jump up in segment classification, the S70 is a return to the national automaker's roots and an opportunity for Proton to flex their 'ride and handling' chops once again, more than 10 years after their previous C-segment contender, the Preve.
    It competes with Japanese B-segment four-doors like the Honda City and Toyota Vios on price but offers a dimensionally larger proposition and more performance by way of a standard 1.5-litre turbocharged engine.
    Bolstered by high equipment levels and a refinement that's impressive even against other Geely-derived models, the S70's appeal and value is clear to see, though it's tough to tell whether this is enough to sway customers to Proton.
    Stay tuned for the full review!

    Most impressive Proton I driven is Inspira. After 11 years still can confidently go up to 150km/h with ease. Is S70 better than Inspira?

      i own both. the answer so far is yes.
      but inspira is really darn good for the price.
      plus point: s70 does look like inspira R3 in certain ways (especially the white one)

      YES! S70 easily go 200km/h and still feels so stable

      hi, i consider to buy used inspira. it is a fuel thirsty when driving average of 100kmh? how far rm50 can get you to? @@RidhuanRozairi

    Hey bro, is it true what they said abt thr throttle configuration is a lil off? Is it something obvious? I dont think we can observe that with our 5 mins test drive maybe you can.

    • @carlist_my
      @carlist_my  5 месяцев назад +1

      Could you elaborate? For us the throttle response felt pretty standard for a small downsized turbo petrol. There's always going to be that slight lag and slight overcompensation in power delivery.

    My opinion is the S70 is not matured yet, shifting from NA CVT(Emgrand) to Turbo DCT on a similar chasis, it has obvious rattling noises & vibrations during low speed and idling (similar opinions as paultan's review), perhaps the mounting is not fitted well with the different engine. The throttle response is a bit off for me as well and the steering wheel feels light when cruising on the highway. Hoping from a better refinement from Proton in the near future. #MyOpinion

      @carlist_my  5 месяцев назад +1

      On our drive, yes, the vibration at idle is present but only from the outside (imperceptible to the driver/passengers), and refinement was much better compared to the X50/X70, especially at launch. True, the steering is light, but keeping it stable at high speed wasn't an issue for us. Still, no harm in waiting for Proton to iron out the small issues as customer feedback comes in.

    Agreed. Been waiting like for years since 2019, after several months X70 launched. I thought after X50 launched in 2020, the S70 will be released on 2021, somehow 2022 - still waiting with those "S50" name rumors, 2023 - well, again it's SUV this time which is the X90, almost 2024 then this S70 launched. Was it worth the wait? Even I my self not sure anymore now. I personally love sedan cars which cost me several years to wait for Proton to launch its upcoming sedan. For Japan Sedan B segment mostly still have me hanging for its spec & price given throughout all those years, while their C & D segment sedans are very pricey for my budget. So I just waited for proton sedan and now its 2024, does it worth my time to wait? Well, I guess so. 🤔🤷🏻

      It's a shame that the world has gone so SUV crazy, even a 'family sedan' like the S70 can look exciting by comparison. Agreed that the Japanese B-segment cars are getting up there at the limits of what is justifiable in price, which makes the slightly larger Proton all the more disruptive. Hope you find your ideal sedan!

      Quite extra for the S70 (and 90% of cars) but if you want to, can pump V Power Racing or Blaze 100. Let us know how it goes!

    Welcome to the tumbling ride effect of the torsion beam.

    • @spidermen432
      @spidermen432 5 месяцев назад +1

      majority car use torsion beam at the back, cant complain. more cheaper plus better than no suspension. even mazda 3 with 156k price tag using torsion beam at the back. this is not all rounder. for fuel economy, city and almera win. this car cheap, having power engine and up-to-date safety. let this car continue for another 5 years and see what the others user complain. still early to judge

    • @carlist_my
      @carlist_my  5 месяцев назад

      It's a 'family' sedan, after all. Independent rear suspension doesn't equal 'good', same as torsion beam doesn't equal 'bad'. We've been impressed by so many cars with a well-tuned torsion beam rear end. A great example is the Renault Megane RS throughout multiple generations.
