      @@hugo6390 I actually think Reputation could be sonically cohesive if the songs were put in an order. Like it could go from the guilt of moving away from her rebound partner (Getaway Car) to thinking about how people were doubting her (Delicate) and then calling them out (LWYMMD and IDSB) then her relation with Joe about how she was mesmerized by him (Gorgeous) and then her bragging about her partner (…Ready for it?, Endgame, KOMH). Then comes the sexual tension part (Dress, So it Goes, Don’t Blame Me, DWOHT) later comes the part where she rejoices and shades the people who doubted her (TIWWCHNT) then calming down, talking and chilling with her lover (CIWYW, New Years Day)

      I'm a HUGE 1989 stan, but she probably thought that 1989 was her best album only when she released it. I think that now it's one of her least favorites because she was not so happy during that time. She also seems to appreciate red a lot now... I personally love 1989 more and it's still my favorite album because it had a huge impact on my life. I don't know where I would've ended up if it wasn't for 1989. That album saved my life so many times, and that's why I love it so much. I know that so many people think that red and Speak Now are actually better, but I can't stop loving 1989 because I saw that it literally helped so many people that struggled with depression, anxiety or diseases. I love seeing little girls and boys dancing to shake it off, bacause I know the feeling and I know that they're having fun

  • @purplealchemistofficial

    I hope she doesn't feel pressured to have sonically cohesive albums, because although all of the albums that have won album of the year are S.C., I think trying to make an album feel like one big vibe is extremely challenging, and might leave her throwing away songs that would do well with fans.
    It's entirely her decision, but I what I love about 'evermore' is that it has songs that make it feel like a sister album to folklore, but she also branches out with songs like "no body, no crime', and 'gold rush', that have a different vibe than being lost in the forrest.

    • @victoriab7148
      @victoriab7148 2 года назад +2

      Yes, the reason why I prefer evermore over folklore is because of the bigger sonical variety. I absolutely love folklore now but I didn't so much at first because I found it monotonous. Same thing with Fearless, I like it but I tend to get a bit bored of same-y sounding songs. I like it when albums have bigger sonical variety.

It’s like each song should be directly or indirectly connected to each other, whether the vibe, lyric, emotion etc. for example:- a direct connection song pair is there in Folklore itself, August x Betty x Cardigan (Songs about perspective of James and Betty, with Inez being the added character). The whole vibe of Folklore is similar, the forest, misty vibe. So is it for evermore. I think that’s the indirect connection. That’s what sonically cohesive means I guess

      I know this was months ago, but if you still don’t know, it means the songs on the album have a similar and distinct quality in the sound that unifies them. Like debut was country, Fearless was pop country, 1989 was a through and through 80’s-inspired pop album, Rep was dark electropop, and folklore was indie folk leaning. However, albums can be thematically cohesive even if they’re not sonically cohesive.

    You know what? I don't think that winning a Grammy is what makes an album great. And yes, sonic cohesiveness is a really good characteristic when you make a record but I don't agree on the fact that Red and Speak Now are missing something just because they are not as cohesive as 1989. Speak Now is very cohesive in its melodies, lyrics and atmospheres. Red, instead, is probably the least sonically cohesive album of Taylor, but it has to be like that, as it resembles a heartbroken person. And heartbroken people never feel the same way all day long, they go from sadness to carelessness to loneliness and to small fragments of happiness too. Red is like this. So I think, it's good that it is not cohesive because it wouldn't have described heartbreak in the same effective way if it had been cohesive.

    Lemme just say that sonic cohesion produced some of the most mainstream albums of her career, yes, but it did not deliver, by far, her most emotionally driven work. She may think sonic cohesion is an essential goal, but Speak Now and Red, being the two albums where she specifically mentioned it was chaotic sonically, were two of her best works of her entire career thus far. folklore FINALLY saw her able to blend sonic cohesion with the emotional depth of the Mariana Trench. I genuinely do not believe 1989, rep, or even Lover quite have the emotional/lyrical strength of Speak Now, Red, and folklore despite being highly regarded albums by fans. The thing that makes Taylor the artist that I love like no other is not her ability to make a bop, it's her ability to write a super detailed and impactful story in melody.
    What I'm saying is sonic cohesion is unnecessary for someone like Miss Swift because her emotional depth literally requires chaotic disruptions in the tone of any given track. Sonic cohesion is far easier to accomplish when the material you're working with holds the same or very similar emotional weight as many of her pop album songs did, but the deep cuts juxtaposed against the ecstatic power punches of Speak Now and Red wouldn't feel as strong to me if the music behind them was more "cohesive." I love the range of her art, and striving for sonic cohesion seemed, at least to me, to limit her range a bit.

    • @freddysamjacob363
      @freddysamjacob363 2 года назад +1

      What I'm saying is, Red wasn't exactly really sonically cohesive, But it still wasn't all over the place, which is great. But, sometimes cohesion is necessary, since the record being too all over the place leads to sounding more like a playlist than an album. No matter how great the Songwriting or artist. But, luckily Taylor hasn't made an album like that

    the thing with Taylor is until the last few years, she was a really really bad people pleaser. like probably the worst case of people pleaser this earth has ever seen. and she had this need to be seen as perfect or good or a role model or what you’re “supposed to be”. she followed every rule, put everyone before herself, did everything she did to satisfy others and to be perfect instead of simply because she wanted to. and a big rule in music for the longest time was “you have to be just one thing.” “it all has to sound similar and cohesive or else you’re a mess” “you have to chose a genre to make music in”. and Taylor had those rules in her head and that’s why she seemed to kinda be disappointed in or dissatisfied with speak now and especially red for a while after they came out. those albums didn’t fit into a box. they didn’t follow that rule. but i think now with her being more mature and wise and having stepped out of that people pleasing phase... and also knowing she’s done multiple different genres and dominated in them all over the years, she shows a lot more love to speak now and especially red. she seems to accept and love that they’re a little all over the place and she seems to see the beauty and realness of the albums being all over the place. they represent where she was in life and how she was feeling so many different things at once and trying to figure herself out. it’s cool that despite her starting out as this people pleaser that was scared of making albums that were all over the place, she’s still the one of the few artists that blazed the trail to make albums that were a little all over the place. now that’s the new standard. people want albums to show an array of different feelings and thoughts. they want them to be all over the place and have different sounds. and that’s good because anything else is kinda boring. who wants to hear the same sound 14-20 times in a row?
