I said it last year when I watched it (yellow) online. I count myself very lucky to be living and able to witness Beyonce's genius and pure talent. So elated and blown away again(yellow and pink!) when Homecoming came on Netflix. Been trying to tell people around me how great it is. They just don't get it, how sad for them. There's no other word for it than MASTERPIECE.
She was referring to the theory of Nigrescence. It explains the process of African Americans becoming more in tune with their race in other words becoming “more black.”
I love this piece, it highlights another aspect of Beyonce's importance. ABC and all the other media outlets would not be focusing on HBCUs, their cultural significance, and the need of safe spaces for young black people but for Beyonce choosing to focus on them. Also, appreciate Jamilah getting the journalist together for implying Beyonce, a black women, is growing into her blackness. No one would ever say a white person was growing into their whitness,...
There are people who praises another person for their positive impact and contribution to the community, and then there are people who points out and brings forth negativity towards another. Seriously stop being so negative as it is not what this world needs.
Regardless of whether your a fan or not, you can't deny the positive impact this will have on black people seeing themselves and wanting to get a higher education.

Beyonce is not what the haters think she is. This is a woman that beats the odds this is a woman that should be listened to a not passed up, I suggest those who might have a bias without really even looking watch her documentary and take notes. She gives me chills and gave me even more chills within the documentary and I understand her mission in life and that's just beautiful, and haters learn how to respectfully dislike an artist instead of trashing them like you trash yourself

Lol this is me being pessimistic and I'm truly glad another level.of black culture has been celebrated and getting honored but just really waiting to see if the ariana grande of the world will try it next. Theres already whole research about certain white cheer and dance teams for the NFL stealing choreography from hbcu majorettes with bo permission or compensation of course. But that's a whole other topic.
@@jasminevaliente96 girl they will get dragged for filth !!!!
@abcnews thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commentary. The light that you chose to shine on us illuminated the very things that makes us great... resilience & excellence. Thank you for this beautiful piece on such a beautiful & most excellent woman ever. We need more... more opportunities... more examples... more recognition... more guidance. This also helps others see us in different lights. We have been and sadly still are the ultimate underdogs... for now. Thank you to all who stand-live-and- survive your truths. Peace🐾😼🐾
Just the mere fact that ABC News did a "breakdown" of her performance and it's significance in not just black history but history period, and shows just how relevant Bey is in our culture. Kudos to putting a spotlight on HBCU's.....I live in Greensboro NC home of NC A&T(GHOE!!) and Bennett College, my daughter attends Winston-Salem State University and family at Shaw University and North Carolina Central University all here in NC!!
And people keep saying she’s “OVERRATED” 🙄🤦🏽♂️, BITCHHH WHEREEE💅🏽, yll better put some RESPECT ON THE QUEENS NAME🐝👸🏽👑
Nahh sis, yo ugly ass is overrated🗣✌🏽

@Tay Made 👏🏾👏🏾Well said👏🏾👏🏾
@Tay Made Exactly Tay Made. When I go to HBCU homecoming, I don't want to see any white people. No invitation from me. It's FOR US, BY US. Sorry, but that's how I feel.
She’s amazing! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Pay yall dues HBCU graduates! $25 a month helps scholarships, housing, and upkeep of these schools, and puts jobs back into the community surrounding them. It's needed to keep these schools open and continue quality education and recreation on campus! Proud Morgan State University, Baltimore Maryland Alumni here!😍 Thanks Beyonce for bringing awareness to the foundational schools of black education and academics.
Crystal Fowler The real MSU. Love y’all homecoming. Hotties on parade :)
1:48 That reporter looks pissed she didn’t cling on to that “more black” comment 🤣
Beyoncé is black so what did she mean become "more black" ?
French Vanilla I think it’s just that most Americans have to bring race into everything
She was referring to the theory of Nigrescence. It explains the process of African Americans becoming more in tune with their race in other words becoming “more black.”
Bey is black but some years ago she never embraced it like the she is doing it now!!!! She is more black in her character now. She is good,
@@bashirssekalega1872 exactly!
Her performance was absolutely life changing for me. Pure black power and excellence - which in a moment - shifted the world!
Beyonce is the 8th wonder of the world.
Love love love Bey......show the world who we are!
I saw it live on RUclips... Then watched it on Netflix... And now on my 3rd viewing 15min at a time every evening 😊 #LIFE 🐝🐝🐝

Her documentary is Excellence PERIODT!!! (Yes with a T at the end)👍👍👍💯💯💯💯❤❤👏👏
its Very refreshing to see am influential black American artist sell and glamorize black culture
Regardless of whether your a fan or not, you can't deny the positive impact this will have on black people seeing themselves and wanting to get a higher education.
BluGyal Black people already go to college, particularly black women. Did you miss the part about how this was inspired by HBCU homecoming events?
@@MiniM69 yeah I know... this is just more encouragement. To be more specific she's exposing them to HBCU'S and their culture.
The HBCU experience is like no other. I grew up on FAMU campus as a kid. I went to FSU but I stayed on FAMU Campus. Great experience!!!
My cousin graduated from FAMU I visited plenty time being from the east coast (philly) I nvr got the experience up in north like down south btw love the city of Tallahassee shout outs to all HBCUs
I Love Beyonce ....STRONG singing VOICE... SHE'S GOT THE JUICE AS WELL*** BELIEVE IN THIS MESSAGE TO HIGHER LEVELS OF SELF ESTEEM AND PASSION FOR YOU AND YOURSELF YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT FOR SURE ....
bey killed it!!
Haters will say she's overrated, I'll admit as a Beyonce Stan I don't like some of her music which is normal I guess but you cannot deny the fact that this woman is making history.
Loved it!!!!
This performance help increase college application and when see people look like them show that hbcu experience even tho beyonce didn’t attend college she showed how unique our culture really is
Bey is legend point, blank period. My sweet inspiration. She makes me so very proud to be a black woman. I salute you Beyonce’ for all that you do. ✊🏽
I love this woman so much ARGH 😂🥰
I'm so happy young black people have such an icon to look up to....as a Native American, I can only hope we can have something similar to make our young people proud of themselves in the same way some day.

Thank you queen!!!

I LOVE YOU BEYONCÉ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Her concerts are prolific.
I hate this sudden talk of her "becoming more black". She has always been black, but she has grown and sees what's going in around us. She understands her voice, she's aware. She's no longer the child we first met.
She cemented her legacy and greatness on top.
I wasn't a fan of bcs i always focused on the negativity that the media n hateful ppl fed us abt her.BUT!after watching her documentary w my 16yo daughter i had to RE EVALUATE MY SISTER..if she didn't do anything she REDEEMED herself me as woman gained some insight..insperation about MYSELF as a BLACK WOMAN!! If I ever become a singer/performer I honestly thank beyonce! That woman has inspired me to the fucking fullest
I have to watch rn
It's beautiful to see a true icon uplift the African American culture and to have it be a Black woman is even more iconic.
I'm a Mexican born woman and I feel your pride. We are all what makes this country great. I salute Beyoncee and I salute your culture.
I feel with all these non black female pop artists who actually sing black , embody our entire body language, and style, this film was NECESSARY. It’s necessary to remind America that we’re the pioneers of this “new” style in the mainstream. These Cardi’s, Ariana’s, Jessie J’s etc are all students of black women and entertainers.
For me, Brazilian, I was surprised to know that there are black and white universities in U.S.A, but I would do anything to spend a week at one of these black universities, TE AMO Beyoncé, kisses from Brasil 🇧🇷
