We get so competitive and get way too much enjoyment out of destroying each other's plans (not sure what that says about us but oh well lol). Thanks for another great review! I backed Unfair years ago because I love theme parks. We only played it twice (two-player). It has sat on the shelf since because it was just way too mean for our tastes. I am intrigued by Funfair, but it lacks the cool theme packs from Unfair. I would love to see these two games merged somehow in the future so that we can have the best elements from both without the take that mechanics.

      @GoodGamesPublishing 3 года назад +2

      There's still plenty of variability in Funfair, and many ways to win in about 30 - 40 mins for 2 players. Then, if you both love it then its worth considering Unfair too. Its more challenging and endlessly variable, but you dont HAVE to play nasty. In fact most couples don't at all. There is an official game changer card you can choose to use that stops attacks on each other. And there are many ways to mitigate the bad stuff that does happen. Its part of the challenge of Unfair.

Speaking of take that mechanic, I'm still reeling from the shock of Innovations and my friend managed to get his hands on the expansion so that should be good. Our first play of Dune Imperium was great! And I'm not just saying cos I won, the Intrigue cards really helped. Getting the right ones at the right time helped. Sorry for the delayed reply Melvin!!! And I did see your comment on the Innovation video. You're so right that it has take that but I think that because it is so constant and crazy and unpredictable it doesn't feel like I'm as attached to my player area. I think Maggie gets most upset in games where she spends so much of it building her own little world and then someone upsets it. In Innovation you rarely get that chance. I was also thinking that we only usually play it two player and so there's no choice in who you pick on either .... I always find the take that tougher when someone specifically chooses me to attack... especially if I'm not coming first! grrrrrrrrr Lol.... I'm glad to hear that your group enjoys Unfair! I think if you own and love that one you'll probably not need to play Funfair as it is largely the same game but lighter and friendlier. I'm glad also that you liked Dune Imperium!! I'm not sure if that's because I learned Magic so long ago, and my tastes have changed, but not for Magic. I suspect it depends on the game. Euro games often have you building something up,. and maybe I don't enjoy others tearing my creation down. Ausonia, a card game that just delivered has a few take that cards. The first time I was surprised and sad when one got played, but by the second game, saw that sometimes it is the only way to slow your opponent down before they run off with an early win. Big fan of Unfair! Not a game for sore losers haha. I kind of like the take-that features, in our games it has helped keep anyone from getting a runaway lead and you can tweak the deck combos to vary the meanness 😁
    It's a shame they didn't make Funfair an expand-alone so we'd have the option to combine it with Unfair, but I can understand that there would have been a lot of difficulty in doing that.

    • @kimbrebach9246
      @kimbrebach9246 3 года назад +3

      Thanks! Yeah Unfair is by design a mid weight tableau & engine building game where you CAN mess with your rival's engine... IF that's the best strategic move to stop runaway leaders. Experienced players learn that you have to carefully weigh up the unstoppable benefits of boosting your own park against everyone against the risk of attacking one player (and being blocked or counterattacked). Many but not all gamers enjoy that interaction... and for those that don't, Funfair gives you a slightly lighter, tighter, faster & friendlier theme park building experience with only positive interactions.
      An yeah we had to change enough things in Funfair to create that very specific experience, that we couldn't integrate the 2 games (different card costs and abilities and simplified income calculations and more).
      While we don't currently plan on expanding Funfair itself, as you likely know there will be plenty more Unfair expansions. The Comicbook, Hacker, Kaiju & Ocean expansion is in late playtesting as we speak! So look out for the upcoming Kickstarter.

    Another great #ThinkerThemer review and video! You both look like you are feeling better and I am so happy to see that! I actually had both of these games in my cart at one time, waiting to decide which to get. Now, this may sound opposite to what I posted last week about not caring for take that mechanic but I feel it is different when the whole game is built around it. Games that are mostly engine building with a few take that cards thrown in are so frustrating! But this...this sounds more enjoyable if everyone going in realizes this game is UNFAIR! I love a game, that is not a party game, that makes you laugh. I also love that you combine two different theme decks. I love being able to change a piece of the theme. So cool! That piece reminds me a little of Smash Up, combing two random decks. That is a very different game of course, but I like choosing your two decks for theme and tactics. Do you think they will make additional theme decks to add to this game? Sounds like expansion opportunity along with public objectives! That would be cool for more choices! Plus, I love that is good at 2 players. I am hoping it is not too crunchy for Laura to play! I think my decision is made. Unfair for the theme park win! My favorite quote in the video, “There was a hugging moment…I had to hug her”. So cute and adorable! Thank you for sharing those moments! Warms my heart.

    I love your channel! We started with Funfair and are currently awaiting Unfair from a math trade, so we clearly love this game. ❤️ I think Unfair will edge out Funfair for us, but we will keep it to play with our kiddo. The art in this game is 🤩. Love the break down of the two! Nice job!

      Aw yay! Thanks so much Stephanie! Loved reading about your experiences with Funfair and I think you'll find Unfair even more engaging / deeper (oh and of course, meaner hehe). We like the variability of the decks. Thanks for taking the time to comment and the lovely words about the channel ☺

    Oooh yes! Unfair looks like my kind of game. I love games that serve up the schadenfreude on a platter. And I really admire Maggie for being able to roll with the meanness of games like Unfair even when she does feel the pain of it more intensely than many people. You guys should get her a tiny violin that she can give to whoever is being mean to her, and say "you might as well play this for me, too, to rub it in!" 😁

    • @ThinkerThemer
      @ThinkerThemer  3 года назад

      HAHAHA oh, I don't think she rolls with it as well as you think she does. If the violin came out Maggie would be storming off to bed and that game would never see the light of day again Lol...! I'm glad you like the look of Unfair, we have had a lot of fun with it, and zero full storm outs. :D

    about the mini did you prime the whole thing black, gray, white, zenethal? also i have been wanting to ask do you use a spray can to prime or do you own an air brush? if so i have been thinking about getting one is there one you suggest (im in the US)

    • @ThinkerThemer
      @ThinkerThemer  3 года назад +1

      I used a spray can here of white primer. I do own an airbrush and want to do more zenathal priming but on this occasion it was just one mini per box so I didn't bother setting up! Maggie bought it for me for Christmas so I didn't do the research but it is a Harder & Steenbeck. It is nice to use but I haven't explored painting with it enough. About to start Rising Sun though!! All the best for your painting adventures 🥰

    Glad to see the talk on the differences. I enjoyed my play of Undair but knew it wouldn’t go over well with the majority of people I played games with. Excited to try out Funfair though. That might be more up their alley.

    Great review, I was a little surprised you preferred UNFAIR but at the end of the day if its the better game/deeper/more challenging then I can see that this overrode the take that elements that you might normally avoid.

      Thank you Paul...! Yes there is plenty of game there and there is more building than destroying overall so it is satisfying and a lot of fun. Appreciate the kind words, thanks for watching this one and taking the time to comment

    Hello :-) Love your channel :-) I was wondering if someday there are packs of themed cards for Funfair if you would like it more than Unfair?

    • @ThinkerThemer
      @ThinkerThemer  2 года назад

      Thanks so much for the kind words Dominique!! I think we would still like Unfair. Especially me (Amy) because of the higher level of player interaction! It would be great if they made themed packs for funfair though... that would ensure it could stay fresh for the fans! Thanks for watching this one ❤

    I combined both game together, but having Funfair be the core game. Just with the Red City events and Game setups card, to make the game challenging.

    The Unfair rulebook makes it explicit that it's a Funfair where the F fell off, but for some reason the U is larger, and that drives me crazy
