    Joshua, of all the advice out there, I have found your teaching style and explanations to be the most helpful. I've composed for years on piano, but now I feel that I can reveal what's in my minds eye...or my minds...ear(!?)........ Thank you!!

    What a timesaver this is! I use BBC Orchestra too and didn't want to have to load aaalll the instruments every time I want to record something. Thank you!

    nice template Joshua,however,why not save RAM by deactivating every instrument (track) and only activating the ones you need instaid of only cinesamples,that way you wont have those cracle and pops,cheers Joshua

      @joshuaday914  Год назад +1

      The crackles are likely due to an underpowered CPU, not the RAM. 128GB of RAM should be more than adequate to handle a whole orchestra. But you’re right that I could disable everything and the benefit would be a serious decrease in load time. I could also overload my template that way because you never use all of your samples in a single project. I’m also looking into Vienna Ensemble Pro. Thanks for your comment.

    If you lower the group channel fader, does it change the balance for your Stage Reverb and VST instruments? Or do the individual sends get lowered at the same time? Thank you!

    • @joshuaday914
      @joshuaday914  7 месяцев назад +1

      Lowering the group fader reduces the sound output from the channels which should proportionately affect the sends.

    Hi man. Blessing. How much ram and spec to run this kind of template? Thanks

    • @joshuaday914
      @joshuaday914  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t have much disabled, but if you disable everything and purge your Kontakt instances, you should be able to run this with 64GB RAM and a decent processor. If you want everything enabled and want to add more tracks when using the template, I recommend 128 GB RAM and at least a midrange CPU like the Core i7 2.6gHz octacore. The more cores the better.

    Quick question. I see you have adjusted your gain knobs on each individual track. Is there a specific peak you are wanting to hit with each instrument and track with your gainstaging?

    • @joshuaday914
      @joshuaday914  8 месяцев назад

      Typically what I do is watch the level meter as I play a few notes at full volume - mod wheel all the way up. I have my meter set to K20 and I want the sound to hit around -4dB for brass and percussion, -8dB for everything else. This gives me plenty of headroom for mixing and mastering. A lot of different libraries in a template have different volumes for their samples, and even samples within the same library sometimes don’t have realistic balanced volume. Just have to use your ears.

      @@joshuaday914 Thank you for the speedy reply and the great information. I have noticed the difference in volumes of multiple different VIs. And have adjusted faders accordingly in the past.
      Now days I like to start my mix with faders at unity and will gain stage with the gain knobs first, so when I do start my mix with my faders, the moves are more precise while still having that headroom. But I may had been bringing the gain down too low(sometimes peaking at -12/-14db) on some instruments.
      I will play around with your -4 and -8 and see if that works for my workflow. Thank you so much, kindly. Im new at/and in love with writing/mixing orchestral and cinematic music. I came from a heavy metal/rock background of writing, recording and mixing. And this new playground is amazing and beautiful to me.

    Hey Joshua is there a way to use negative track delay in conjunction with sound variations?

    • @joshuaday914
      @joshuaday914  Год назад

      Yes. Set your negative track delay for the legato patches. When you switch to shorts just pull them behind the beat slightly until they sound right. Alternatively, don’t use negative track delay, put your shorts right on the beat, and pull your legatos ahead of the beat. Remember to adjust your sound variation changes to always be ahead of the notes they are meant to affect. The only other alternative is to separate your longs and your shorts onto separate tracks and set track delay for the longs but not the shorts.

    Have you ever used Mir Pro (3d) for reverb?

    • @joshuaday914
      @joshuaday914  Год назад

      I looked into it and I really like what I see, but the price is a bit steep. Some of the guys I follow, like Mattia Chiappa and Zach Heyde, take a much simpler approach to reverb than I do, and I think in my next iteration of this template that I will follow suit: one stage verb to get everything in the same room, and one finishing algorithmic reverb like Cinematic Rooms or Seventh Heaven to glue it all together. It really saves CPU.
