The Arrows were a eighties Toronto based Canadian band who had a song in the CBS eighties show Night Heat ; they are basically unknown outside of Canada
when people make covers they need to understand that rock doesn’t work when it’s turned into pop. they’re two very different genres and should be kept separate.
That's usually the case but sometimes they can create something wonderful so I think people should try to create good covers Plus a lot of covers are made from people who truly adore or admire the song or creator and making their own version is just a way to send love to the original creators
How to gain backlash: 1. Take a hit song by an artist/band with a distinct style (preferably Beatles or Queen). 2. Cover it in your own style that isn’t suitable for it. 3. Watch the media go mad about your fail.
4. Profit wildly from ppl going to buy/request/listen to the song to see what all the hubbub is about. 5. Profit even more with the newfound attention as ppl also buy/request/listen top your other tunes to see if they are good or bad. 6. Profit even more from the buzz surrounding your group pulling in ppl who haven't heard of you, and they are now fans. 7. Did I mention Profits? The managers & record companies who plan things like this laugh all the way to the bank. 8. With limited exceptions (ex: Gary Glitter) there is very little "bad" publicity.
On the other hand, sometimes a cover does it's own distinct style - and DOES WORK even when you never expect it to. Disturbed - Sounds of Silence might be the best example of that.
Hey, calm down guys, Miley is a big Nirvana fan, are we really gonna stop her from enjoying an amazing band?, her work used to be entertain teens, so what?. The original "Zombie" by The Cranberries was about the troubles in Northern Ireland. Zombie (Eurodance Remix) is a dance trank which is just... morally wrong for making it well... into a dance track.
And yet when that song came out, I can remember at the alternative clubs, the girls walked straight to the dance floor when it started. That was a powerful song that got people dancing. I can see it right now. That distinctive beginning, and the alt chicks putting their beer down, wearing all black, and going straight to the floor.
@@bruno.martins1810 I will admit that it is more cheery than the original and it is very Brazil. But I suppose as cheery as it is, it does not feel so removed from the original and I would add timing is important. When the dance track to Zombie was made, I think the troubles had still not come to an end and people were still being killed in "The Troubles". This version, years later when the troubles have (hopefully) come to a definite end feels a bit like a celebration in that they are now over. Does this sound fair? Ok, so some of these are really bad but I feel like the narrator is a little off base in criticizing most of the artist's styles. Hilary Duff for example is top 40 and Disney so why is it so shocking that her cover of the Go-Gos sounds top 40 and too Disney. It actually doesn't sound much different than the original. Cover songs are not supposed to sound identical to the original.
Yeah agreed. The Duffs cover is reasonably described as commercial pop and disney style, that is the style they are. If someone doesn't like their style, that's fair, but that's a comment on the artist in general and not on the cover version of the specific song - which is not actually that far from the original in this case. It certainly does not belong on this list - its presence here betrays the list compiler just not liking them as artists. Some of the others, however, despite being huge artists on many of their performances, just destroy the originals listed here completely, and earn their place with ease.

Disagree on the #1, Britney's rendition of Satisfaction isn't the worst by far; Macy Gray's "Walk this way" could have been #1, but then again, also same for: Hillary & Haylie Duff's "Out lips are Sealed", as they really didn't do that any justice in their singing of it vs The Go-Go's original rocked; (& Hillary's version of other songs are equally bad); Miley trying to do a Beetle song, as it's said,.."don't do it"; Among the very worst, (IMO) has to be the 10 yr old Aaron Carter doing creepy singing of "Crush on You", as it's just so VERY wrong. & then comes Ashley Tisdale's ruinous version of 'Never Gonna Give You Up" from Rick Astley. equally so Very wrong. WIlliam Shatner's "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds" really should have taken the #1 spot..for how HORRIBLY bad that was,.. & he sounds like he was likely on something for how awful it was..

Aaron even sounds like a chipmunk on that song. At least The Jets' version is way superior after listening to it. Also, speaking of The Jets, if you've watched Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers as a kid (which I did), they actually performed the theme song to that show.
Thanks for that fact. Listening to The Jets here and thinking of the Rescue Rangers theme, the connection never occurred to me.

Kind of hate how he says that you can't cover the Beatles. You can cover any song by any band, all that matters is if it's good.

when people make covers they need to understand that rock doesn’t work when it’s turned into pop. they’re two very different genres and should be kept separate.
That's usually the case but sometimes they can create something wonderful so I think people should try to create good covers
Plus a lot of covers are made from people who truly adore or admire the song or creator and making their own version is just a way to send love to the original creators
Absolutely!! Couldn't agree with you more!! Thanks for that comment cause it was short, sweet, and Definitely to the point!!

How to gain backlash:
1. Take a hit song by an artist/band with a distinct style (preferably Beatles or Queen).
2. Cover it in your own style that isn’t suitable for it.
3. Watch the media go mad about your fail.
Like when panic at the disco covered bohemian rhapsody

That distinctive beginning, and the alt chicks putting their beer down, wearing all black, and going straight to the floor.
bro, there is a Samba group here on Brazil named "Sambô" they made a Samba cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday

I totally agree. I felt like he was criticizing the artists more than the song
He actually went easy on everyone compared to Macy Grey. The way he criticize her voice as squeaky with pure BS seeing as her tone is more raspy/melodic. Either way he's a dumbass.
