According to the fanbook The reason why rui was Muzan’s favorite is because he see himself in him and what rui’s had been through. Rui was so highly-skilled, that he could be Lower One or Lower Two if he wanted to but he isnt interested in getting higher rank all he wanted was a family and Muzan let him do which prove that he was favored as a lower moon. I also heard that if Rui recovered his power that he shared with his "family" he could’ve given a good fight to Giyu and might be even stronger at that specific moment of the story
Bro sharing the blood isn't the problem, like how humans regain blood loss in few days after blood donating ,demons also recovers in few seconds, rui being higher in LM category was never stated anywhere now these are some make up theories that is going around, A demons strength doesn't necessarily depends on physical strength it can be fully concentrated on blood demon art, the more muzans blood you have the more you can apply the blood in your abilities to make it powerful, like rui used website but he isn't necessarily stronger in physical strength like the father spider demon, another LM1 is also not physically stronger, talking about uppers Um3 and Um6 exceeds all upper demons in case of physical strength...in case if you wonder Um6 is special cuz he can take advantage of his blood demon art and can fight physically too that others can't,(it may be controversial but defeating Um6 and Um4 is more harder than defeating top3 uppers)

Rui was an amazing character. One of my favorites. Taking his own head was top level genius. If anyone watched the english dub, his voice actor passed from cancer a few years ago. He was 37 i think.
