  • This year could well become the warmest on record. And nowhere has felt the effects more than the Arctic. Our Science Editor Tom Clarke has been to Norway's Svalbard islands in the high Arctic,

      Warmest year on record in the Arctic? When started the records there? Several reports say that it was up to 4 degrees C warmer in the 1930 ies than today. With almost no additional CO2.

      Of cause they have to say this, they won't get another 70 million dollars otherwise, imagine if they said "nope, all part of a natural cycle, same thing happened in the 1930's (so the 800 year statement is not to be trusted) nothing to this CO2 thing" money would be gone...

      We currently live in the most prosperous period in human history. This is largely because of Free Market Capitalism, global warming and more CO2 in the atmosphere fertilizing our crops. Global extreme poverty, as of about 10 years ago started to level off and is now plummeting.
      We live in an Ice Age and the IPCC and Democrats want to cool down the planet. And what happens to the abundance and predictability of rain in a cooler world?

    Expect 2 degrees C Global temperature above baseline by 2018. We are currently 1.5 C above baseline (NASA 2016). Expect 3.5 C above baseline by 2020. Expect runaway greenhouse has begun.

    • @RodMartinJr
      @RodMartinJr 7 лет назад +1

      +John O Leary, sorry no! Earth experienced 4,000 ppm and +20C warmer climate than today for 14 million years without any indication of runaway greenhouse warming. Just stable, life-affirming climate.
      Too much ice fetish going on. We live in an Ice Age and people are worried that deadly ice will melt. Just look at the population gradient from poles to equator. Life is screaming at you that it prefers warmth. And modern CO2 increases are greening the Earth.
      The notion of Earth scorching is bad science fiction. Even with +20C of warming during the Cretaceous, the tropics were virtually the same as they are today, deserts were smaller but drier, and the temperate zone stretched all the way to the poles. Why are some people so afraid of life? Dumb!
      And humans saved all life on Earth by burning fossil fuels (Ref: Red Line - Carbon Dioxide). For millions of years, nature was drawing down CO2 toward zero. And when it gets to zero, all plants will die. When all plants die, all animals die. Simple enough for even you to understand.

      @@RodMartinJr If the ice melts the sea levels rise, which could lead to coastal towns flooding which can then lead to a lot more people homeless and the government can be pressured to build more houses which will cost money etc.We have adapted to the climate that we are experiencing now, we have built our cities and towns around it and when it changes we will have to change too.

    • @RodMartinJr
      @RodMartinJr 3 года назад

      @@ap3xg4ming12 Several fallacies there. Climate always changes and humans always adapt. You implied that climate hasn't changed and humans will now be inconvenienced. Sea level has risen over 400 feet (over 100m) since the depths of the last glacial period, about 20,000 years ago. And the Holocene interglacial of the current Ice Age has been cooling down steadily since about 10,000 years ago, accelerating in the cooling starting 3,000 years ago.
      During the Holocene Optimum, from about 6500 to 3500 BC, sea level was several *_meters_* higher than today; cooling off lowered sea level quite a bit. Cooling off also dried out the Sahara turning it back into desert! And this hardship may have been one of the triggers which restarted civilization.
      I don't like to see people inconvenienced. But I hate starvation and death far more.
      Most of the current sea level rise is *_thermal expansion!_* Ice *_always_* melts in an Ice Age, unless the planet is frozen even in the tropics. And warming does both -- melts ice and *_creates more ice!_* Along the coast of Greenland, snow fall is as much as 10 times what it is in the far drier interior. All that added ice tends to *_lower_* sea level, or *_slows down_* sea level rise. And in the Indian Ocean, sea level has gone *_down_* for the last half century -- because of faster rates of evaporation and slower rates of influx.
      *_Warming:_* Prosperity, more rain to water crops, more outgassing of CO2 from the oceans, stabilizing the ocean pH (alkalinity).
      *_Cooling:_* Poverty, failed crops, societal collapses, massive death rates. Less rain, more CO2 sequestration in the oceans, jacking up the ocean acidity.
      *_The choice is clear:_* Promote warming and prosperity (and we do happen to live in the most prosperous period in human history), or promote cooling and get a far more rapid return of the next glacial period of the current Ice Age, with its heavy suppression of human population because of failed crops and unpredictable rain.
      Apex, I used to be a Warming Alarmist. From 2007 to 2012 I was a big fan of Al Gore's "award-winning," but flawed film. I'm not in this for the ego; I believe in evidence and science -- not the current IPCC dogma. I hope you will understand my disagreement.

      Ice fetish? Ice kills; warmth promotes life. Climate has changed for nearly 4.5 billion years, ever since Earth gained an atmosphere and most of that time has been ice free! Our polar ice is *_abnormal_* and deadly. Just look at the population gradient from poles to equator. Life tells you loudly and clearly that it prefers warmth. And it also prefers CO2 -- something which almost reached extinction levels 15,000 BC (Ref: "Red Line - Carbon Dioxide").

    When you're fresh out of a Little Ice Age, of course you're going to get warming. Our current Modern Warm Period is COOLER than the Medieval Warm Period, and the Medieval was cooler than the Roman, and the Roman was cooler than the Minoan Warm Period. In other words, we've had a massive cooling trend, exacerbated by the Little Ice Age, that suggests the Holocene started to shut down 3,000 years ago. Hold onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen. We live in an Ice Age and the globalists who run most countries and their Corporate/government news outlets want to cool down the planet. If you think that's psychopathically nuts, you're right.
    Global Warming made civilization possible 12,000 years ago, and these idiots want to take away all this delicious, life-affirming warmth. Tsk, tsk.
