    How long can it live in water? For however long you want it to.
    The key is removing all soil and keeping them clean.
    You may notice when you initially make the switch, you’ll lose some of the old soil roots (they may get soft and mushy) and your plant may lose leaves as well. Chances are you’ll develop some new and white water roots.
    For my plants in water I use dynagro foliage pro liquid fertilizer once a month and replace water once a week or as I see water needs to be replaced.
    Any additional questions that you have, leave them down below and if you found this helpful, follow along for all more planty tips along the way.

      I'm not completely familiar with the product but based on the name, I'd assume it's for plants that are composed of only leaves, stems/vines, and of course roots. Flowering/fruiting plants have different needs than foliage only plants (usually more nitrogen). With any plant, do an online search to learn it's fertilizer needs (which can vary based on the stage of growth it's in) and use a fertilizer with numbers that are at least close to what is suggested in your online search. I try to research any new plant or seed (needs, maintenance, etc) prior to buying it. This way, I can grab anything else I may not have... or decide it's too much for my budget/lifestyle/space. Hope this helps!

    • @naynerboppers5254
      @naynerboppers5254 Месяц назад +2

      Edit: more nitrogen needed for foliage only plants, flowering plants will need lower N with higher PK once in the flowering stage

    krystal, i found your channel about a year ago, right when i became homeless and moved into my first place alone. it was great at first and then got really tough. but my love and knowledge of plants grew exponentially when i started watching you so even at the worst times, i had my jungle surrounding me, and your joyous presence to drown out my sorrows. i’ve lost a few but even when i couldn’t take care of myself and was bed bound for weeks at a time i still got up to care for my plants (and my gecko Tofu). you helped bring a lot of happiness into my life at a really hard time. today is another hard day. i lost a good friend and you’ve just popped back up on my feed. i’m going to go water my plants and look at new baby leaves. thank you for being you❤

    My grandma gave me her red maranta when it was starting to go downhill and she didn’t know what to do with it. I let it continue to deplete slowly until there was almost no hope left. I planted the last remaining pieces in my “fishtank garden” which is just a fish tank that I put all my random props and high humidity plants in. The maranta has been growing in the fishtank for 2 years! Every time I see it I am amazed that it’s still with me. Never coming out of the fishtank tho lol.

      THIS

    • @deathbloom27
      @deathbloom27 Месяц назад +2

      Yes they will need to stay moist for a few weeks! Water roots are different from soil roots so it needs time to acclimate and grow the right kind of roots. But it's usually pretty easy, I water propagate a lot of my cuttings and transfer to soil, pretty much the same thing! I usually keep moist for 2 weeks and then let it slowly dry out, then find a regular water schedule that works for that type.

    Thanks for another fun, informative video!! You are my plant/gardening go-to green thumb guru. I have learned SO much from you. Any time I have a question I go to your channel first to find the answer. I think I’ve saved virtually every video I’ve watched (wish I could save Shorts but instead I “Share” with myself). 🤓 I was doing some repotting etc. on the w/e and my partner came out to help…he was asking about watering one and I told him to “drown that hoe” and shuckled…he didn’t get the reference (even though I’ve made him watch some of your videos) and thought I’d lost it. Lol Speaking of original quotes/sayings…I shared a pic of a cpl of my plants with my sis and she said that I’d become quite a horticulturalist to which I responded “better to be a horticulturalist than a ho”. Lol. I thought of you immediately! ❤ from 🇨🇦

      I’m a messy plant enthusiast too!! I find potting/repotting using a boot tray (I use the same one as Krystal uses from IKEA) but still usually make a mess. If the plant (pot and/or planter) is small enough, I find using a dishpan (basin) is the easiest clean up). You can find them fairly inexpensive at Dollarama (in Canada) or Walmart and probably even cheaper at Dollar Tree if you have one close. If space is an issue, look for a collapsible one. Good luck!

    • @Jenn.linsey
      @Jenn.linsey Месяц назад +5

      Go to the dollar tree and get one of those rubber boot trays that have raised edges, and also a small garden shovel to put soil in pots. The soil will be contained to the tray and you can dump it back into your container or outside if it’s not able to be reused 😊

      accept some mess, get a mat like others have mention, sometimes I lay down an old bed sheet under so I can discard the excess soil back I'm my soil bin, outside, or the trash.

    There’s something VERY important that doesn’t get mentioned enough. Do NOT do this to recently acquired plants. It’s too many changes for the plant to deal with and it goes into transplant shock. I killed several plants mere days after putting them in water because of this. Give it a month to get comfortable in your home and then change it to water.

    I just got those coconut hanging planters to repot my fluffy ruffles that haven't been repotted for 5 years. Sorry I wasn't thinking! Anyway I bought good fern soil I've taken the plant out of pot and for 3 days it is been soaking wet I teased out as much soggy soil out as much as I could but I don't know how to far to go. The Roots look Brown some of them break off very easily summer really tough and there's a whole bunch of dry Roots wrapped around the top of the root ball. Just curious if I should try to remove all the soil before repotting or or not mess with the root ball very much. I can't tell which roots are dead and which aren't they're all brown the ones around the top are very hard they look dried out but the rich below in the dirt are brown as well some are sturdy some come off the root ball very easily. Help! And thank you I just found your channel and I love it. I have a bunch of succulent cuttings. I just took off several babies from a Hawthorne and they are callusing at the moment. Going to lay them in some dirt soon and just keep them moist until they start sprouting roots

      The soil (if not well draining) will hold on to the moisture, while not allowing any airflow. This can cause the roots to rot out from "poor circulation"
      The water alone has enough oxygen in the total volume to keep the plant happy.
      It kinda goes along with the over watering trope; it's not how much you water, it's how often.

      I know you were asking Krystal (and why wouldn’t you….she’s a gardening goddess!!) but I’ve had the same issue. It might be due to the water you’re using (if you have city/town water as it is usually treated with chemicals). I started using Stress Coat (water conditioning treatment for aquariums) and it seems to be working. It’s fairly inexpensive ($12.99CAD for 8oz/237ml bottle) and you don’t need much (1tsp/5ml per 10gal/38L of water). I got
      it at the pet store but you can prob get it at Walmart and definitely from Amazon. I mix 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) in a 20L (5gal) water jug. FYI - 20L is slightly more than 5gal so I don’t fill the jug. Hope this helps! 🤠
