I love how these things look so daunting to start. But if you just start working away at it bit by bit(with a few mistakes along the way) it eventually gets done. What a cool machine!
Just a quick FYI leave the CF card adaptor in the machine and only remove the CF card itself. The pins that connect into the adaptor on the control are prone to damage and to replace them is near impossible as parts are not readily available.
I was taught a great trick years ago for pulling stuff through 90's and conduit. trash plastic bag, with string tied to it. Than on the side you want to pull too, put a shop vac. Insert back with string into other side , and turn on vacuum. It will pull it around the 90's and corners. Works like a charm. Very very fast.
Thanks for scharing the spindel change on the Macodel ath that time.Hopfully your machine is running verry well now, best greatngs from Belgium, Mechanix
@@michaelalcocer6778 A VMC would be awesome! I'm still tinkering a bit, but the last 6 months has been all about trying to finish my new shop (which I'm finally starting to move into). I'm hoping to get back into video mode later this year, but we'll see how it goes.
Hey! Good to see you again, I hope you've been busy enough to make it worthwhile without being frantic etc. I look forward to seeing more about this machine and everything else!
Yup, I have a VMC torn apart in my garage for 3 years now. Sometimes I work on it for many consecutive weeks, and then not at all for a few months. Just last weekend I got very close to being ready to glue new turcite to the saddle and put the saddle back in the machine, but didnd't quite get there (and now it's stupidly hot outside)
Nice Job. I just bought a Rockwell 15-127 radial drill press at auction. So I have a spindle. Now I need to make it work with a VFD since it is 3-phase. I'm going to channel my inner Grimsmo and do a nice clean job.
So awesome to see you guys here again! Thought the worst that you've given youtube the flick :(... I so look forward to your videos and was somewhat sad when they stopped.... I'm hoping to see more Grimsmo Knives videos now...please
They hired a videographer to do all the RUclips, then he does posting videos for a year, and he reappeared a video that said the videographer was still on staff. So he's been paying a videographer without producing content. Weird. Maybe he's since quit or was let go, and that's why he hasn't produced content.
@@littlejackalo5326 That's strange. I thought there might of been something going on like that or arguments regarding ownership of content.... however I still would like to see more Grimsmo Knives here on RUclips.
I’m still here! I am not going anywhere! We have tons of stuff on our plate. Don’t worry, we will never abandon RUclips, we are making it even better! -Fraser
Taking pictures while taking stuff apart is a huge thing I've been doing forever it seems. Always helps when you're down for a while and parts come in a long while later.
I have a not finished project in my shop as well. Bought a MINT and very rare (parts aren't rare...bonus) 4 axis Kuraki KV500. It was built factory as a 4 axis and the z travel is HUGE.
HEY JOHN, just heard you and Saunders talk about return knives confiscated at border…provide the customer a letter similar to what was mentioned in the podcast, but have them include it with the knife so if border opens it, they know what’s up and have everyone’s contact info.
I would probably 3d print some jaws to test it out. Assuming you are going to grab on to the clip end you wouldn’t be able to machine the jaws in place.
You should invest in a nice set of flare nut spanners, using those for pneumatic and hydraulic fittings vs open end spanners is night and day and will almost certainly avoid damaging fittings.
"night and day"? That's a bit hyperbolic. The fact that they need to go around 5/of the sides of the hex means they cause cleanse issues. For what? Not much benefit. I have never dealt with brake, hydraulic, or air lines where I thought "I should go look for my flare nut wrench set. It'll make this much easier."
Connect network cable. CF card can damage pins. Simple way to find spindle center to jaws. Find Z on upright position on jaws. Spindle center Z - jaw top face Z. Lower jaws and probe -X. Offset the difference.
Use rings made from heat shrink tubing to hold the wires together. These take up less room than cable ties, are less likely to snag and won't pinch the tubing.
yes but no. get a piece of scrap hose slit it down the side, wrap your cable and hose harnesses in it and tape it on as opposed to lashing with tape. electricians use a nylon draw wire to get through conduit etc that really helps to run cables through like that.
13:06 that's how we thread electronic and hydraulic lines through bicycle frames for Shimano Di2 electronic gears and brakes. Kept thinking - hey that would work well here, then you had the idea. Good thinking :D This is the video for the Park Tool internal cable routing kit for bicycles: ruclips.net/video/msIyofUud3A/видео.html
personally i know paying for the service technician to do it in a few days would have been paid off 10 times in the time you or anyone else does something like this by themselves.
I've missed your vids, glad to see you back
Welcome back it’s been a while. Missed the videos hope we get more soon.
It's great to see the machine in action after hearing so much about it on the podcast.
what the podcast name ?

I haven't watched video yet, but man, I'm glad to see you!

24:35 - I can imagine the tech looking down at his phone and seeing "Grimsmo" and wincing after the 50th phone call.

Months?!? Feh. I have a mostly-disassembled 1954 vintage Hardinge HLV that's been sitting in boxes in my basement for ten years.
Where are you John and how are you ? We are missing your new videos on YT

Always take photos when taking something complex apart. Because later on it is too late :-)
Do you have any resources i can use to purchase damascus?
are they still making knives? I signed up for a Rask years ago and haven't heard anything.
