I've decided to remove my OEM deflector. On comparison, I think the exhaust note is now clearer from the driving position and I enjoy the sense of more rearward openness, as minimal as it may be. Finally, I think it just looks better/cleaner.
You're not wrong, I drove mine last year without any deflector. But there is a trade off of gas mileage and drag. The main purpose of the wind deflector is to prevent a negative pressure which basically causes air to be sucked from the back of the car. Whether or not it's a noticeable difference I can't say. If you google "convertible wind deflector drag" you'll see example images showing the aerodynamics with and without a deflector.
