    How do the houseboats get their hulls re-blacked?

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  6 лет назад +1

      Hmm. Good question. I’m not sure that they do! Anyone know the answer? Jo

    • @chriscross9505
      @chriscross9505 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, they are not made of steel. Concrete, fiberglass, aluminium or wood (epoxy coated) #thanxgoogle

    • @mjallenuk
      @mjallenuk 6 лет назад +1

      The ones that require blacking require the services of a tug boat. There are several offering these services on the network. This is usually how they will have been brought to their current mooring unless they were dropped in by crane.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  6 лет назад +1

      Oddly enough we say one such tug yesterday, near the Red Hill locks. The smallest tug boat I've ever seen! M

      I think they're very handy things to have around .... a bit like a really powerful micro car generally with a brave and skilled individual to master it.

    George,another nice video. I think it's nice that you let the two humans put their faces right up to the camera and make noises. They are cute.
    After they dropped your ball in the canal I wouldn't give them any treats tonight though.

    Another great video. Jo got some absolutely splendid shots of both nature and very interesting buildings. It reminded me of a saying I heard, "get lost in nature and you will find yourself".
    Some of the day boats made me think of "stupidity kills...just not fast enough". Thanks again for your efforts and witty as well as entertaining banter.

      I personally don't believe in luck and I am the farthest thing from religious as you can get so I won't say you are blessed but I do think you both are living your lives on your terms and if I may say so you are doing a really good job of it. You are happy healthy and intelligent. Things this world needs a lot more of. Well done and thank you again for your contribution to my belief that mankind just might make it.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  6 лет назад

      I'm of a similar view, re: luck, at least in the sense of things happening for any discernible reason. But in the sense of a series of unlikely events nevertheless resolving to an overall pleasant outcome, I'd say we've benefited from an extraordinary amount of it. Not sure we can save the species, but happy to try! Cheers! M

    used to deliver bread to the grocery stores in the Sandiacre/Stapleford/Ilkeston area for a couple of years when I was a kid (child labour was a thing back in the late sixties) if you were at least 14 years old and able to carry a tray of fresh baked bread without dropping it - you were hired. Had to be on the drivers front doorstep at 4 am, off to the bakery, load up the bread and of you went - Saturdays only unfortunately (darned school) - pub stop on the way back fortunately (pretty sure that feeding beer to a 14 year old was illegal even back then but nobody seemed to care:). Then off to the match to watch the Spireites play (and usually lose as I remember). Halcyon days indeed

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  6 лет назад

      Ahh, for the WonderBread Years, when child labor was normal, even encouraged, and children would come home drunk and usually poorer than when they left. ;-) M

    another excellent vlog, I've got to admit the boat jousting idea does sound like fun! you could have people on the roof with those giant cotton bud things they used on gladiators as well! lol. nice to see George enjoying himself. your banter about helping moor up the boat made me laugh...and also saying nooooo Michael don't upset the wife! lol.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for watching. Boat jousting could be dangerous. I think Michael just wants to be Heath Ledger in A Knights Tale. George always enjoys life, he is either eating, sleeping or running around with a ball in his mouth. Good advise for Michael. I’ll make sure I pass it on! Jo

    You two crack me up! Hey, I think boat jousting might could be a thing! Poor George with no ball to keep him busy....you must pick one up at your earliest convenience. Oh George has a cupboard full of balls don’t you worry! He thinks there is an endless supply which is why he keeps losing them. I agree the old brim industrial buildings are wonderful. So much character. Thanks for watching. Jo

      @@MinimalList blissful, especially as I'm now in a wheelchair/mobility scooter as I've got fibromyalgia, it'd be difficult to get on and off a boat now but towpaths in the right area away from locks are nice and flat for my hubby to push me or to walk short distances. I find canals to be so relaxing.

    It has been known for some time, women's reaction times can be faster than men's. I first read this about a female dragster driver. In drag racing , the launch relies on reactions to the light signals. Even year ago, the process was examined closely, by film camera, and timing systems. Some, younger viewers. may not have been exposed to anything more primitives than video tape. So women can be better drivers than men, myself included.

      I’ve never been a fan of any form of biological essentialism, so I’d tend to say that when it comes to fast twitch muscle fibers and nerve conduction, the fastest human is going to be the one with the shortest limbs and the least mass to move. M

    Lovely Video , wonder why the cables where cut on tha tower? only George knows and he ain't telling. Micheal, on the mooring front more Captain Pugwash than Jack Custard! I'd get such grief if I did that to my boss!!! On a more serious note how do you research the shop locations such as Aldi Lidl Sainsbury's ( not a Tesco fan) an important piece of data for a CC'er as its is not just water, Elsan/pumpouts, ( yes I know what you use) fuel ( all the types required) an empty larder not funny either ?

    • @MinimalList

      Not at all, but our boat does get photographed and put on either Twitter, Instagram or Facebook every couple of days by viewers, and we’re also known by about half the EA and CRT staff that we run into at locks, so that’s what I mean when I say we’re “recognizable enough” … we get noticed and put on social media and that’s a good enough reason to at least try to stay within the rules that exist to make sure there’s mooring space for everyone, as we’ll be the first ones criticized by the peanut gallery if we take advantage of all those excuses. No claim to royalty whatsoever, just a concern we have that most boaters don’t and which adds pressure to stay within the rules. M
