They ruin everything. Today I was spending time trying to get some old gas cans functional again with eBay parts because the govt even ruined gas cans several years ago. And I have to stand at my sink forever trying to fill a 1 gallon watering can, because my new faucet flow is limited, because California has water issues. Yup...
I use to watch these Awesome Tugboats work the Maumee River and Yes they have a lot of Power. When I was very Young We saw a Tugboat make a Six to Eight foot wave on the Maumee as we were fishing on the Walkway Dock.
Why does where they come from affect their ability to find housing. I moved to coastal NH five years ago and my home valuation has more than doubled since then. It might be good on paper for me, but it's not a good thing. There's too much commercial 'investment' in single family homes, companies shouldn't own homes.
100% agree, corporations should be federally banned from owning single family residential property. They should be forced to sell their portfolios of property back to the American people for under market value.
If two of those were used to guide out that ship from the port of Baltimore past the bridge and safely into open water that bridge would still be standing.
3:34 so where do the foreign contractors live? I know it's hard to find good younger people to get into the trades but shit like this makes it worse. Nag the mayor or county to attract builders.
Probably live in a contractor-accommodation nearby the ship yard, a 20 foot container can easily be turned into a living space for 1 person. Have lived many times in those when I was away on work,
Are these foreigners getting the same pay as the other guys ? Where are they living then if that’s the issue Companies will cry that they can’t get workers because of a shortage etc then use temporary foreign workers programs when in reality there’s lots of trades people available …you’re just paying too low for the high cost of living there
I think it's utter bullshit that a young person can't pursue their love of ship building because there's nowhere to live in the vicinity so they bring in skilled labour from out of the country? Where the hell do those people live when they get there? Weird...
Contract workers will stay in motels/hotels most often until their contract is complete. Contractors coming from out of the country will most likely go back to their country after their contract is up and will come back when another one is open. Hell, they might even rent a place while they're here on contract. There are many more people looking to rent their property than sell it. A contractor with experience paying for rent or hotels/motels is different than a young person coming in with little to no experience AND having to find a place to stay. If you really think about it, it's no longer as "weird" as you thought. But that requires thinking which may be hard for some people.

An experienced worker /contractor gets paid far more than a new younger or even apprentice gets paid... So would be easier for someone that's been around for a bit to get a place... Or even a few together going in on a place for rent... Which a young man/woman coming in won't have that option... Then again... Might could fend a half decent boat to live on in the local marina
This was an awesome coverage... Hope things get better as fsr as housing so that folks can look into new industries and especially so young folks can get into industries such as this...
Right, so there's a shortage of housing for American workers, yet somehow there isn't for offshore workers? Or the reality it's more profitable for the company to bring in foreign labor and use housing as an excuse.
Yeah I didn't understand their reasoning either, seems like there just trying to get cheaper workers over here like every other company, to cheap to pay for locals talent.
The REAL problem here in Maine and the U.S. is that too many young people have been discouraged from working with their hands and are told during their K-12 years that they should ALL aim for college. This is the fault of all politicians, bureaucrats, and school systems that don’t understand how important it is for manufacturing to exist in the U.S. It is up to each of us to change that back.
In little shit hole birdhouses. Paid Pennies and send most of the money back to their country. These guys won’t be supporting your average American small business the mentality is just to save and send back.
Don Carrigan should have said that the industry for such specialized skills requires successful companies to broaden their search radius for employee candidates to include those from many countries of origin. The skillset requires people who like their work, so the finished product is the best your company can produce. That is why some companies survive and some go out of business, successful ones stay flexible.
We're going to need more tugs around the country after the Key Bridge collapse. Let's see them built here and fast-track citizenship and visas for overseas talent. We also need to reform shipping laws so that more vessels of all types can be built and flagged here--with all the safety improvements that would entail.
The average American always complains Americans have stopped being bold nobody wants to learn trade American patriotism is now about guns not about skills respect to those Americans who are making a difference fighting very hard even if the government is messing things up.
Whatever happened to all the schools that used to train people to be skilled workers in Maine for the housing b******* is Shipyard people should have bought and build housing for the workers stop raising the rent up every freaking year I used to work for masonry company I saw the skilled workers in Bath Iron Works where can we meet at the masonry company it's hard work for them too hard when a lot of them got laid off in the 80s and 90s
Man what an awesome feeling that must be to see a tug you help build get launched.
Good clean and very sturdy design, they look and mean business. A thumbs up from Gibraltar.👍💪
I forget the reasons, but our esteemed politicians sank the shipbuilding industry in the USA years ago.
jews, probably

Cut price competition from asian countries that have abysmal safety standards and quality controls.
Same or worse in Canada, then they have the gall to bring in offshore vessels and NOT TAX them

Great yard and people. Was lucky enough to do all the nav/comm gear installs on the Moran ATBs.
I"ve eaten at the Lobsterman's Restaurant there in East Boothbay and watched the guys at Washburn & Doughty work on new tugboats.
Beautiful, we definitely need more work like this.
Very beautiful work
I wish I could work with these wonderful people
nice coverage. thank you , cheers from Florida, Paul
This made me cry. God bless you all.
We need more ship builders in USA
Netherlands are the best shipbuilders in the world
Incredible work

“Nope, not today.” Plaque on desk.
If two of those were used to guide out that ship from the port of Baltimore past the bridge and safely into open water that bridge would still be standing.
The ship's owner could have done that.
I’d take that to a yacht club. All it needs is a propane Weber grill on the stern
Amazing Tug boats!

We have Bollinger Tugs working in the Bremerton port area for the Navy with the Carriers. These Tugs are fabricated in SE Louisiana.
Beautiful work 🤘💪🤞🇺🇸🚂🦫👍💰👏👌🖖🍩😎.....made in the USA
I work in prince Willam sound we use these same tug they can push sideways what others would do pushing forward
Go Katie!
Yes Sir...American Made !
By immigrants who work for less $$$
brazilian on the grinder
Need to take a trip to Europe to see the cutting edge of tug building. Most US tugs are about 20 years behind what the Europeans build.
Growing business!!
What's with showing the camera in interview shots?

How about sending some to Baltimore
Better late than never, I was amazed that ship wasn't escorted by at least one tug, it wouldn't happen on the Clyde.

so a worker from the USA can't afford housing there but a worker from BRAZIL can?? something doesn't add up...
who is maine?

Where do the new workers find housing. If locals can’t find housing how do the outside Workers find it. Sounds like bullshite to me.
Spot on.
