Grilled Tomahawk Ribeye Steak
A Tomahawk Ribeye is one of the best steaks for a special occasion for several reasons. It always taste great plus has a great presentation.
In this recipe, I wanted to take the time and give you some ideas for a date night dinner. We had a great time with this video and of course ate like Kings and queens.
*What You Need*
1-2 Tomahawk Steaks (Or you Favorite Cut)
Any Sides you like
Your favorite Seasonings
A couple sticks of butter
Several Cloves of Garlic
We started off with two beautiful Tomahawk Ribeyes. I lightly trimmed them just to remove any thick pieces of fat. This gives you more surface area for the rub to stick to and add a little more flavor.
Once trimmed, I seasoned with "Mississippi Grit" (COMING SOON) and code3spices.com/ Grunt Rub. I seasoned pretty heavy since the were coming in around 3.5 pounds a piece. Let the steaks sit out and start warming up. This will allow the rubs to work their flavors and start sweating.
Once the steaks come up a little in temp we are going to get them on the grillagrills.com/ Chimp. You can do this on any cooker as long as you can maintain a temp of about 250. This will allow the steaks to come up to our finish temp at a lot slower rate and become even more tender.
It's going take at least an hour for these steaks to come up to 120 internal. This will give you the time to prep any sides you would like to go with the steaks. We prepped mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, and sauteed mushrooms.
While everything is coming together, I am going to make some butter to go with steaks as well as the mashed potatoes. I started by browning a couple cloves of garlic. Once they get a good color on them I added 2 sticks of salted butter and about a tablespoon of black pepper. I then turned the heat down and just let the butter simmer while everything else finishes up.
At the 30 minute mark I checked on the steaks. They were sitting around 75-80 degrees and smelled great. Now is the time you want to get the chimney going for the Weber Kettle. I took a full chimney or Royal Oak Charcoal and got it going. It should take about 20-30 minutes for the coal to get ready to dump in the Weber.
Once the Steaks hit 120 internal I removed them from the Chimp and allowed them to rest for a few minutes. This will help slow down the cooking process and give you more time to get that perfect crust on them during the sear process.
I dumped the coal in the Weber and put the standard grate in place. During the sear process I did not worry about putting the lid back on the Weber. I simply place the steaks on the grate and kept a close eye on them. I flipped them about every 30 seconds until the crust was perfect. Some flare ups may happen but use this to your advantage for an even better crust. Once the crust was how I wanted, I placed them on a cutting board and got them inside.
Once the steaks were inside, I scooped out some mashed potatoes on the cutting board and placed the steak on top to rest. This adds a great flavor to the potatoes and make for a great presentation. You can dress up the plate as much or as little as you want. Just know this is a perfect meal!!
Hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as we did and thank you for checking the video out. Let us know if you have any questions or shoot us a message anytime you need anything.
Thanks again!

Best steak I ever saw
Haha. Thanks!!
Mark, evidently you and me were Geein & Hawin yesterday. I did the exact same cook and it was sooooo good. You had me on the cut with the ends of the Prime Rib Roast steaks. I had real thick Costco NY Strips. But they turned out the same. That is a great way to cook a steak. Nice job YUM
Awesome! It’s hard to beat a thick NY Strip.
Well done brother!
Thanks!
Good eating!
Thanks!
i want that kind of date night!
Its a good one!
I just had steak for dinner last night. It's breakfast time now but that makes me want another steak.
Looks incredible. Think I would baste the steak with that butter.
Thanks!! That would work really well too! Especially is you seared up front and basted it while it reached the finish temp.
great video,,,
Thanks!!
Great lookin steaks man..
Appreciate it!
I'll take 2 Friday night at my cabin, thanks in advance...
🤤
Great looking Tomahawk's - sucks my local butcher can't seem to get them!!
Thanks! Check out the butcher shop in Pensecola and have him ship them!!
Randy: My Costco carries them on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. If you have a Costco talk to the butchers and ask if they carry them.
Damn that’s the best looking steak I’ve seen. I’m trying it tonight
Thanks!
Damn....those look like Flintstone Steaks. Look awesome. "Honey I love you, but Mr. Swine will be cooking my steaks from now on!"
HAHA!! Appreciate it!
Aw hell yeah!! now you're talking my language!! Nice! just perfect bro!!
Haha!! Thanks!

Tomahawk came out excellent
Thanks! It was definitely one of the better ones we have ever cooked!
Always wanted to try that grunt rub from code 3 ! Is it to coarse of a rub to use it as 1 layer
King Kielbasa it’s pretty course but I don’t see any issues with using it by itself.
with steaks like that more like 3-4 date nights!!
Hahaha. It was multiple couples eating lol.
Looks great! Did you make the serving board yourself?
We cant take credit for the serving board. I believe that was a clearance find at a local grocery store. Appreciate the support!
Do you have a combo pack of spices that you use? I already bought Malcom Reeds spices/ rubs.
Yes, Check out our website swinelifebbq.com. There is the Grit and Grind Combo available. Thanks!
Can you please share what gloves you have on that you can handle the meat so easily.
Check out Howtobbqright.com. They are the glove liners (Cotton Gloves) with Nitrile gloves over them.
What is your guys upload schedule i really love these vids
Usually every Wednesday but we have been out of town the past week at the world Food Championships in Dallas.
@@SwineLifeBBQ oh ok
Awesome, just amazing. Where can I purchase the bone in rib eye steaks? None of my local stores carry them, they only carry 1/4 inch rib eyes, which are too thin for me.
Check out "The Butcher Shoppe in Pensacola" on facebook.. They ship and hands down best customer service in the business!
Sam's Club carries them if you have one local.
On potatoes, put a dash of vinegar on them. Maybe a capful, with butter already on the tater, it improves the taste. Where you just have to try it.
💐👏🙏
What are his gloves made of
They are just nitrile gloves with cotton liners.
So glad to discover your channel. What vacuum sealer do you use?
Appreciate your support! Just a cheap one. Nothing fancy.
where can i get some grunt rub?
Code3spices.com
That pellet grill wasn’t necessary for a steak. I guess if you have it you might as well use it. But for anyone else with just a kettle grill there’s no loss at all. I do whole ribeye roasts with my kettle grill.
Completely agree. Just showing different ways to get results. Love my kettle.
if I was blind, I would assume this was howtobbqright
They've done a vids together before.
you know they're buddies, right?
fuck yeah!!!!
I had a transcendental spiritual moment when he put two sticks of butter in a skillet. Sort of felt like I floated out of my body, I saw the birth of the universe, and reevaluated Mariah Carey‘s movie “Glitter.”
HAHA! Now That Is EPIC!

Just realized I've been doing date night all wrong!

less than 3 min's in, I heard everything wrong or how NOT to cook a piece of meat like that. Second thing... lose the hillybilly accent.
Get lost, troll. Mark makes a great contribution.
