It's always great for musicians to branch out and try other instruments especially if you wanna play in a band. But no matter how close the instrument is to yours you should always aproach it with a degree of humility. Bass is a different instrument than guitar. It plays a different role. Even if some of your skills transelate easily understanding what is actually required of you is tantemount.
i'm a bass player, and my friend wanted me to teach her to play bass, but i'm going to be really busy over the next few months. my sister offered to teach her for me until i get some free time, but she's a guitar player. she's awful cocky about this for only having played like 2 songs on bass. i hope she doesn't screw things up bc if you don't learn the basics the right way it's really hard to start over 😅
As a guitar player, I also play bass. It's like being a skater, but also using a scooter. Or cooking, and also cleaning up after yourself. If you can't do both, You need to get your life straight.
@leanfish209 I'm an amazing bass player but i'm only ok on guitar. I still consider myself a guitar player. I'm definitely better at slapping than the finger picking, Have I just been a bass player this whole time??!?!??
As someone who plays both electric and acoustic without a pick, I semi-agree I've tried my bassist friend's bass and oh my gosh the strings are so thick XD
What are the differences between being good at guitar and bass? I would assume that keeping on beat and picking appropriate notes is more significant in bass but otherwise?
@@gunzofbrixton1236 one of the main difference is getting used to string thickness. And this doesn't go for just guitarist switching to bassist or visa verse, it can also sometimes be a an acoustic person switching to electric (which the strings will stab more since they're thinner). The other thing is number of strings. Bass and ukulele both have four, while guitar adds in the extra two high strings. It can also depend on how good you are at either instrument. If your a pro at guitar, then you may be able to learn bass really fast. I know I personally would have some trouble trying to learn bass, as an intermediate guitarist, but because I don't use picks and often times I use hammer down notes and such, I think I would be able to adapt a bit better than a good chunk if guitarists. I dunno I feel like this is kinda a stereotyped comment ;-;
as someone who quit playing guitar because my bands kept arguing why everyone wants to play guitar, changed to bass is the bass shit that had ever happened 😂
Using a pick is based. That grumbly tone it gives you sounds fantastic and has a lot of attack. Using ONLY a pick is LAME and greatly hinders your range of tone.
Playing Bass is hard and it HURTS especially if you don’t have a strong pinky or big hands. I didn’t have either and was in pain for the first weeks of my practice 😭
Seven Nation Army was written on guitar. WHY TF NOBODY NOTICES THAT THE WHITE STRIPES ARE JUST A DRUMMER AND A GUITARIST? WHY YOU PPL DO THIS TO MEEEEEEEEE?
That last one was relatable to all guitarists.
😂😂
Big fax, and bassists arent compensating they are demonstrating

I half expected him to try and play Wonderwall at the end.

@@thedankknight8333 Of course they are, but they have the same shape. One just has less strings and takes less skill.

"my hands are too small for this"

makes playing other instruments easier too
Fun fact: a good bassist can be a good guitarist. But a good guitarist usually can’t play bass unless he has a pick, and even town he/she is moderate

well guitars have a a shorter neck, thinner strings, they are usually lighter, and the strings are closer together@@gunzofbrixton1236

this guy fa everything, im givingup.
the end i swear 💀
I love that on bass, your picking choice can greatly affects the sound and all are really good
I have a running joke with my friends that the opening to higher ground is the bassists wonderwall
I feel like bass is way more easier than guitar, I can easily learn a song on a bass but on a guitar I struggle
Yeah bass isn't about being difficult.. it's about feel, timing and groove. Things fake bass players don't understand.
It’s easy if you have good feel. If you don’t then stick to guitar
MONEYYY 🗣🗣
"Power Chords still kinda work" if there were a Lemmy school of bass this would be etched in marble on the entrance arch
as a bass player this pierces my soul

Bassists can play guitar, guitarists struggle playing bass.
