  • Before you get worried, we do think we'll keep going, together. The music makes it SUPER sad though, which I think is a fun, and honest, reframe of some of what's happened.
The break is great, I've been having a blast and so has Liss. Thank you all, particularly our patrons, commenters and sharers!
    See you all soon.
    -H(&L)
You can choose to support us here by showing our videos to people who you think might like them. We also have a Patreon www.patreon.com/ridingoneggshells and RUclips will let you 'Thank!' me if you want to. Patrons get perks, early videos, and now-time updates (where you're seeing about 2 weeks in the past usually). They also get exclusive content, and can request videos (like Peter and Karin who wanted to know how I'd made my helmet (GoPro and bluetooth y'know).
Skydio Drone and Insta360 One X2 and S21 phone camera (but it's blurry and I have to throw away or restart a lot of videos!)
    The builds:
    Two DR650's roughly 2014
    Laila: Harry's Black Bike
    DR650 2012 (I think) with many mods
Lynx fairing by Britannia Composites. Great product.
    Safari 37 litre tank
Mosko Moto Backcountry 35 panniers with quick release backing. Also, AWESOME. No rattle, seconds on and off, easy to find the place to put it.
Pelican Top Case with Caribou mounting system. Unsure on this one. It bounces, as it only has two forward points of contact, so I've installed a thong dampener so it doesn't bang any more. While it has locks, it also has standard bolt heads accessible, and I reckon I could rip it off forcibly but I won't try.
Tyres Australia D606 rear, Tractionator Dualventure DV tyres front. D606 is great, Tractionator not.
Montana 700i with satellite tracking beacon and SOS and messaging, can share location with home and call for help in remote places
    Airbox and carbs modded
    Teknik suspension, highly rate it
Safari Seat - all these seats hurt I can't pick them apart
    BnB Bash Plate
    Risers
    Doubletake adventure mirrors
    Tatanka: Liss Eggy Bike
    Lots the same
    DR650 2014 with mods:
    Safari 37-litre tank
    JNS LED headlight
    Yolk-tinted windshield
    Doubletake adventure mirrors
Andystrapz panniers (they do the job and nothing more)
Yellow second-hand pelican case, bolted ingeniously to the bike with buttonheads underneath so only removable by opening the box and removing the camera and reaching through the foam. Works rather well, if I do say so myself.
Liss' bike has been lowered in the rear, but she doesn't want to lower the front.

Harry pull your head in mate and don't let Lis go off on her own. Harry your fascination for mud and off road is spoiling what should be a Great around the world trip. Good luck and stay safe to both of you and I hope to see you both back on the tube soon.

Very often in your travels I’ve watched you struggling through the mud and thought, ‘what’s the point, that didn’t look like fun’… if it’s tricky riding conditions you want Harry, you can do that back home.
Were I in your shoes I’d be fixing in mind some key dates, plotting a route, and then going for it. A long overland trip involves compromise… you don’t get to see it all, instead you see a little bit of a lot of places and you move fast.
You can always return later and immerse yourself in a culture of your choice.
    Good luck!

Harry does not seem to be the compromise type. And that's OK, as a rule. But you cannot just do what you want when on a trip with another human being. If you are not going to compromise, take a solo trip.
And human decency demands group rides accommodate the less experienced rider. You simply cannot take the "tricky track" of a rider in the group is not comfortable with it. Thats downright dangerous.
Two points off for Harry in my book. - Frank

Guys I have watched you from the start of your journey to this video. I must say that I applaud what you are doing and am somewhat envious of what you are doing too, However I must say that it is a big undertaking, riding in pairs for such a long way. Married or not married people will always have their different wants and want nots. So that is a huge challenge to overcome when riding and seeing things together. I agree it is fun to see the sights and learn things as you discover them and to then learn more and hopefully grow within oneself. However a world trip in this day and age is not cheap and the longer you explore, learn and grow the more money you will need. To me the financial aspect is a big factor in a trip like this. Having said that getting from A to B in a quick fashion can seem good but it will create the situation of "what if we", "we should've" and what not. In short I think Harry needs to rein his curiosity in a bit. Less off road stuff thus getting to the destination quicker. Then possibly using that time saved to learn and explore within a close proximity. I think time is something that you may have but as a couple you need to ensure both of you are happy so as to not explode in a fit if rage and well we know where that could probably end. Anyhow good luck and stay strong, I am sure with some deep thought and contemplation you guys will come up with a great plan/solution.

Yep, been there, done that, on a DR650 in Thailand. I can see myself in some of your adventures. But I think you are quite mad, attempting dirt tracks on loaded DRs in the wet season. But you are having fun, at least some of the time, and that's what counts.
For me, I now live in the rice paddies North of Bkk, bought a new Guzzi and I'm staying on surfaced roads.

Same happened to Ed March (C90adventures) and Rachel on their trip around the World. Different expectations, different wants. Its only natural. Hell I get fed up with my mates on a two week tour, as we all wany fifteenth yhings. Its not that we all don't like each other. Celebrate your different agendas, but have meet up points and dates along the way, and have the best of both Worlds. Harry’s Mum here:
Hopefully this is just a ‘time out to regroup’ because you are both such a good unit. I’m struck by the general tenor of kindness from the good people who are your followers; who understand the rigours of together-travels, while not being too critical. Like me, they see the difficulties of ‘Harry going off and looking for trouble’ and Liss’s ‘hell-bent on making it to Europe in time for next summer’. Time apart will hopefully help that accommodation. Hope so.

Good on you guys, these trips are hard, tiring and just testing in everyway. Jay and I did a mini break for 1 month off the bikes in India. I went hiking in Nepal with my girlfriend and he went to Sri Lanka. We had always planned to do it but the time off the bikes really helped reset and get excited for the second half. In an ideal world I'd want to do 1- 3months a year and leave the bike along the way then fly out and continue in little Chunks, unfortunately life doesn't allow for that haha.

Did anybody _not_ predict this? I reckon a month is about as long as two good friends can travel together before needing time and space to do their own thing.
It's especially difficult when you find your own expectations of freedom and adventure being limited or directed by someone else's. However much you love them.
Solo motorbike travel is such a blast of freedom that it would be a shame if you didn't build it into this long journey, more than once. Plus it gives you more stories to tell to each other.

Well, I'm not surprised. I've seen the cracks for years. My wife, who has religiously followed Itchy Boots with me, won't watch this. And hasn't for several years. She can't tolerate the way Harry treats Lis, and I do cringe often. He puts Lis down a lot, and is a bit of a self centered git. Personally I think Lis should go the rest of the trip on her own. If Noraly and Elspeth Beard can do it so can she. Maybe meet a few times along the way, by air maybe, to see how things progress. Lisa has grown in confidence and capability in so many ways since the start of this series. Harry, only a little bit. The best to both of you, but frankly, I think especially for Lis, that means not as a part of this couple.

  • @agibitable

I think time apart will be so good for you two. Having your own time to yourself will give you perspective, like you said, on what's important to you in traveling. We need to travel at our own pace, there's nothing worse than feeling pressured to go slower or faster. I like to travel alone because I find riding in a group often insulates ourselves from the experience, we tend to stay in that bubble whereas solo you have to engage with the world. Being solo isn't for everyone & I can understand why some people prefer not to travel alone, but being solo hasn't hurt Kinga of 'on her bike' or dare I say it.. Noralie. Best wishes to you both.

Yeah we're still finding the best way to do that. I find I have to pull over and wait a lot or dawdle, and it's hard to stay focused when riding slow. Similarly I think Liss can feel jangled, though she tells me she doesn't really worry about trying to keep up. Her pace is the overall "get to London" but mine is "rush to the next place we can chill for a week or so". -H

Nothing to worry about you two. A short break every now and then is great and works very well with my riding mates. As a matter of fact it is the “extreme togetherness” that ruins trips and relationships sometimes lol. I have a couple of mates that persisted on staying together on long outback trip and now don’t even talk to each other. This is sad as I am sure a few days apart would let cooler heads prevail and would have defused the escalating tensions. While the heavy off road sections will be easier both psychologically and physically if you are together, it is not a necessity. Solo adventure travelling heightens the sense of adventure and clears the mind. Your bikes are very capable and you both seem resilient and very capable. I have been following your adventures now for a while and I think you have come across most situations off road can throw at you. So a bit of separate travel a very good idea.
Hang in there it is a great adventure you embarked upon and in the future you will remember even some of the most frustrating experiences with fondness

I finally caught up on your videos to see this one. (Been too busy riding and not watching videos, lol) The two of you have different travel styles, being real about it and not burying it until it comes out in frustration or anger is good for a relationship. It's also important to be considerate of the other's needs, i.e., if Harry wants to do a tricky track maybe there is a paved route that Liss can take and meet up with him or making a pact that there won't be any night riding, etc. Also, I think it's important to have solo time, even when you get along well. I've enjoyed your antics for years and hope to continue to for many more. Much love and see you on the other side.

All the best with the solo riding. That much time together in small hotels in unfamiliar environments with the physical effort of dirt riding will test any relationship. Then youve got the added different expectations of travel. I think a short time apart then regroup is a wise decision under the circumstances. But so is good communication and balance (in everything) though.
As far as some comments go, viewers only see a heavily editted version of the days/weeks even if the videos have consistencies each time. Only Liss and Harry will know who and what things need to change. BUT... as a viewer, Harry's constant jibes towards Liss and apparent no compromise choices are going to chip away...
As far as content goes, I'd love for it to remain as an adventure riding with dirt focus channel first, then travel channel second. But ultimately its your trip!

When I saw the heading on my phone a dark shadow dropped over me and I felt instantly gutted. Further down the track watching on my PC I realised it was not a permanent decision....."whew". I've worked in the tropics and all the hot places in Australia and like Liz would want to pass through the south Asian countries so I could get on with the world tour. I love watching you get in the shite Harry and all the human f up's you make but agree with your lovely wife. When you don't make plans you plan to fail. Any man would be proud to have a Liss with him and you've pushed too hard Harry. Love you both to bits.

Mud is mud. You can do all the mud riding back home during weekends. I don’t think I can leave my girl partner to ride off alone. Just old school me

Yeah I did feel nervous about the idea, given that almost 100% of her riding has been with me for the past 4 years... But I also think it's good to spread your wings, and I had wanted since day 1, to spend some more time in places learning and getting to know people. It was a good compromise and she handled it beautifully. After 6 months of being together through everything 24/7, it was also a nice break. -H

Ideas:- stop trying to get a new rider to do experienced rider stuff. Lis' skills off road are improving, but unrealistic tracks and roads for her skill level make it not fun.

His attitude and actions must make it feel more like travelling with a teenage son. As someone who travels on road a lot with my partner on her bike, you need compromise, of which i see nothing from him

    • @RidingOnEggshells
      @RidingOnEggshells  Год назад

Harry: You don't seem to demonstrate one of the primary qualities I would consider necessary to do the 'compromising' thing to speak of... And that's judging people at their best. Maybe I'm doing the same, judging you based upon a single nasty comment, but maybe you're judging me in a similar way. Maybe I'm an annoying prick and you're a judgemental old curmudgeon. Maybe you're a well-meaning person who's drawn to criticise in the mistaken assumption it improves or 'fixes' something; and maybe I'm an eager chap who likes to explore and maybe that's what she likes in me. Who knows? I don't, what is interesting is that you think you do.

    • @Zx10rob
      @Zx10rob Год назад

Unfortunately posting such an attitude on a platform will get people judging you..:.youve chosen what to be judged by…..Maybe worry less about yourself and how you look. ‘Shes leaving me’ as if shes doing something wrong by you. It shouldnt get to that. Bordering on self indulgent narcissism

Great series and could see was not going to last the journey. There's no point in going easy and taking the least challenging route as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I think Harry's better off not being the "babysitter" now, and you both can enjoy your independant travels.
