    I love the way the writing does the subtle power scaling! They’re deep underground and Ozai is able to sense the sun coming out within a fraction of a second and generate lightning with a speed we haven’t seen from Azula or even Iroh. And then Azula is only able to realize she can firebend when she hears Ozai firebending. It’s such a subtle well written way to show the audience how power is scaled between people and where everyone sits!

    • @Pappikestrel84
      @Pappikestrel84 9 месяцев назад +4

      Let me disagree a little, we didn't see Iroh busted himself out so we don't know if he could sense it too in a fraction, witch I'd say yes, cuz no guard was ready for it, even when both, Iroh and guards were able to firebend.
      And also a last thing, we could see one person using fire to melt metal, Roku on the winter solstice, and here, Iroh melting it with such a powerful bending.
      But like I said, we didn't see how Iroh scaped. So it's just a theory, a thought 💭

    • @therion108
      @therion108 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@Pappikestrel84 I don't think Iroh used firebending to bust himself out.. That's why he was working out a and getting buffed, because he knew an eclipse is coming, so nobody will be able to stop him if he just goes brute force in perfectly timed moment : )

    Some people ask why didn't Zuko kill Ozai when he had the chance. There are a number of reasons:
    The guards are just outside the door. Ozai sent them away because he didn't want them to here what Zuko was going to say. Any battle would've resulted in Zuko fighting a hoard or guards.
    Ozai is a powerful bender, but we don't know about his abilities to fight with weapons or open hands. Zuko does. He gets Ozai to sit, but doesn't try to close the distance. we also don't know if Ozai keeps hidden weapons on is person or near him. Those flowing robes could hide anything.
    If Zuko kills Ozai it would be seen as an act of treason. Zuko would not become Fire Lord. He'd be imprisoned and ordered killed by Fire Lord Azula. Remember, Zuko's mother and Ozai killed Azulon secretly and made it look like he died in his sleep.
    Ozai is still Zuko's father. He may hate him. But, killing his own father is asking a lot of anyone.
    I think Zuko went to confront Ozai for a reason. Zuko is burning that bridge. He can no longer backslide to the Fire Nation and his father. Otherwise, he could've just gone to free Iroh and snuck away with him during the invasion. It would be far easier and safer.

  • @mathies3598
    @mathies3598 8 месяцев назад +4

    I think Azula and Ursa not really having a connection was only because Azula was basically already being heavily grroomed by Ozai to become a ruthless killibg machine, to the point where obviously she would not have been the one the royal family is gonna kill to teach a lesson. She was the one with potential. Which is exactly why Ursa gravitated more towards Zuko and did as much as she could protect and nurture him. Had Azula been the one who's life was threatened, she would probably also already have had a closer relationship with her for being the neglected kid.

    Wow. Great breakdown of how everything went down on the night Azulon died. The backstory was shown a whole season prior, but you even made connections to Zuko's mom's comments with the turtle-ducks. Very thoughtful show, and it's cool to see y'all catching all the things.

  • @Juuri_
    @Juuri_ 9 месяцев назад +16

    After following Zuko through his struggles for more than three seasons, it's so satisfying to see Zuko confront his own father with a clear goal in mind. It has been a long time coming, especially after what happened in Ba Sing Se. However, I believe it was necessary for his personal growth to go back home and get what he THOUGHT he always wanted to figure out that it didn't feel right in the end. Had Zuko sided with team Avatar back in Ba Sing Se, he would have always carried a little piece of doubt with him. Previously, Zuko has always been nudged by Iroh to make the right decision, but this time, the choice is entirely his own. And that has so much more of an impact since it comes from a place of clarity.
    Zuko's inner conflict and his rocky path are what make him an amazing and realistic character. People don't always just go on a straight path. Sometimes you get lost or take a few steps backwards and that's okay.

    As you probably know, Mark Hamill voices the fire lord. When he says certain words, I can hear the Joker!
    Do you see the IRONY of Hamill’s role in the show? In Star Wars he was a hero who defied an evil tyrant with lightning powers and had no means of defending himself.
    In Avatar, he voices/portrays a very similar bad guy and Zuko has a way of defending himself against lightning!

    Hey Meesh and Dee "Happy Thursday". I hope you two day have been going well. Great two part episode. Awesome moment seeing everyone from season 1 like Haru and season 2 The Boulder back. The battle outfits of everyone and the armor Appa wear looks amazing. I will missed Aang with hair. Aang kissing Katara I didn't expect to happen this soon.
    My favorite highlight of the entire two part is Zuko and Ozai moment. Zuko finally confronting his father. And telling him he's no longer hoing to follow his orders and finally seeing what needs to be done. And him telling his father he will joined the Avatar to defeat him and the Firenation. Amazing character writing. Amazing character journey. One of the reasons like find Zuko as my favorite character. To see him redirected the Lightning back at his father was a bada** moment. But anyway I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing.

    Today's comment is gonna be a very long one. Hope u stick around till the end.
    Fun fact: The reason they gave Haru a moustache is because someone doodled one on him on the storyboards as a joke and the rest of the team went "all right".
    Another Fun Fact: That female prison guard is voiced by Serena Williams.
    Zuko analysis:
    It's been analyzed to death over the years, but it's so good it never gets tiring to say. The Zuko redemption arc is about as perfect of a character arc as you can write.
    It would have been easy and maybe even slightly lazy to just have him turn to the good side at the end of Book 2. And any other show wouldve done that. But nope, not ATLA.
    The only way one can truly find redemption and salvation is for him to get EVERYTHING he has wanted the past 3 years. And he got it. His Dad "loved" and respected him. His sister treated him as much like a brother as she is capable of. He was loved by his people. But it was still wrong. And just like how he made the mistake back then of joining azula on his own he also made the choice of helping the Avatar and doing what's right, completely on his own. The strength of character that takes is amazing.
    Zuko. One of the greatest fictional characters of all time.
    Some Sokka praise cause he earned it:
    It was his idea to make armor for Appа, organizing the invasion team all the people they ran into throughout the show (which also meant remembering the towns/coordinates of their locations), they wouldn't have known about the Day of the Black Sun had he not solved the mystery in the library and found out the exact date of the next eclipse.
    Like, It blows my mind how the he's goofy comic relief most of the time, yet he holds his own as a non bender in the Gaang of prodigy benders really well. He is the Strategist, team manager and the Leader of the Group. And is just as important as any other member in the Gaang. I can't think of any other comedic relief character that's done like Sokka.
    I'm pretty sure u hv read atlest 3 comments about how Ozai didn't know Zuko could redirect lightning and legitimately tried to kill his son 😅😅.
    Well I wanna talk about Ozais strength now, specifically Ozai's lightning:
    • it was shot with the literal minimum amount of sunlight, not to mention deep in a volcano (look at the sun that's like 1% of it out)
    • was done in 2 circles movements , while it took Azula and Iroh 3 movements.
    • was bolder, whiter, and thus hotter than anyone elses
    • he's the only character to shoot dual lightning - bolts from both hands at once. Iroh explained that lightning is created by the collision of positive and negative chi that have been separated by the user, so for Ozai to be able to dual lightningbend, he would have had to be capable of separating his internal chi energy into four pools instead of just the usual two.
    • Another interesting note is how Ozai can simply sense when the eclipse is over. By contrast, Azula had to listen to the sound of the explosion from the other room to deduce that her firebending has returned - in spite of being able to produce blue flames, her connection to the element of fire isn't as deep as father's to enable her to feel the sun's return.
    So imo Ozai essentially demonstrates a similar link to fire as Toph has with earth (It's just tophs link is physical and Ozais link is like a sixth sense).
    He is definitely the Strongest firebender.
    Now, let's stop for a moment to consider how brutal of a loss this was for the gaang.
    The idea for this invasion came back from Chapter 10 of Book 2, the library. They lost Appa while trying to get this information. They then suffered the pains of Ba Sing Sei and the Dai Li, trying to get this information to the Earth King and friends.
    A very large portion of this series was dedicated to and built up to this invasion. To then have it fail was a pretty ballsy and ultimately great writing decision.
    The gaang fails a lot. But they just keep going. Which something I love.
    Also Theres no way they would hv won if they had stayed. In case u r wondering what would be the chances, lemme explain real quick:
    The entire point of the invasion was to storm the capital and take it by surprise specifically on a day where firebenders lose their bending for a short time. The reason for this is because of Aang and where he is in his development: he hasn't learned firebending and is expected to fight a guy way above Azula in skill and power, when Aang has struggled against Azula on his own.
    Plan was to defeat the Fire Lord as quickly as possible and force a surrender in a playing field where Aang has every advantage in a fight.
    The plan was already scuffed when it was delayed trying to find the bunker and again dealing with Azula and the Dai Li, not to mention them never learning where Ozai was until the eclipse was over and Azula told them willingly.
    Because in a fight with realistically just Sokka, Toph and Aang vs Ozai...Ozai will wash them. And that's not counting Ozai's royal guards, the Dai Li, and Azula herself joining in the fight too.
    Aang is strong (being able to bend 3/4 elements is still a great asset) but not being able to firebend against the strongest firebender in the world who can also shoot lightning even faster than Azula (which Aang also doesn't know how to defend against and was already "killed" by it once by Azula), plus having no access to the Avatar State at all even as a defense mechanism... Yea. Aang had zero chance of winning against Ozai.
    Great reaction 😊. Hope u have a great day ahead 😁😁.

      Of course, we’ll be reading every bit of this comment! We can't miss out on the nuggets of wisdom you always provide.
      I just found out that Ming is voiced by Serena Williams, and I am mind-blown. 🤯 They really have a lot of famous voice actors come on the show!
      You explain Zuko's redemption arc perfectly. The ups and downs of his character and his struggle with choosing the good side are what make it so good and realistic.
      I really like how you break down the power of Ozai. I think a lot of people miss the details because he’s barely portrayed in the show, which is something I think would be cool to flesh out more in the live-action adaptation!

    I really like LOK too but ofc it will never be as good as ATLA. It really builds the world even more and tells about its history and has even more adult themes in my opinion

    I really love The Legend of Korra, but I cannot compare it, and I don't think I should. Avatar always has a special place in my heart, because I watched it as a kid, and it is so fun-loving and serious at the same time. TLoK has a different tone. It grew with Avatar's audience and is more of a teen show with completely different story structures, character dynamics and episode structures. It is set in the Avatar world, so you know bending and stuff, but it does not really feel like Avatar at all, in my opinion. And that is completely fine. It is really well done, and it is its own thing, with its own valuable characters, character growths, and lessons that everyone can resonate with. I'm a bit biased towards Avatar, because I saw it first, and when I was a kid, but if Avatar didn't exist, TLoK would be favourite fantasy or animated show.
    It still has funny moments, of course. It's not totally serious, but you have older characters, so they just don't behave very childish🤷🏽‍♀️
    For Korra, it is always important to really put yourself into the shoes of the characters. If you can't understand them, then chances are, you won't like them. But if you can, then you will love them and their stories.
    It is kind of like the same thing with Katara. Many fans cannot understand her, and so they find her annoyingly emotional and nagging, because they can't put themselves into her shoes. This show mostly focuses on Aang's and Zuko's turmoil, so you have to be really observant to understand Katara, but still.
    I have seen so many reactions of Korra, and that is kind of the pattern I've come to recognise. I don't know what you know of Korra, but I beg you to go in without having Avatar too much on your mind. Korra is a new show and deserves to be treated as its own thing. Don't have any expectations considering the storylines or the characters, and then I think you'll love it. 😊😊

    Korra is a wonderful time, it has its weak points, but so does ATLA! The best avatar media for my money though are the Kyoshi and Yangchen novels, if you like to read they are a fantastic time!

    I see ATLA and Legend of Korra as having wonderful synergy. I love ATLA more after watching Korra, and LOK grows out of my love of ATLA.
