There are disclaimers all over this program that should not be ignored. The bad information it hands out looks as good as the good information that makes it hard to tell. Expect this to get much better quickly. When it can debug its own bad code it will take over that industry. You still need to be able to give it clear instructions so there will be jobs for some folks.
I'll tell you about a pretty incredible use I found for chatGPT: For context, I'm a game programmer. I wrote a simple script language for stories with branching dialog that somewhat resembles 'twee'. I can load these scripts in pygame using a custom interpreter. Without explaining the syntax and only providing one example, I was able to get chatGPT to write dialog trees in my custom script language. The dialog it provided was much more coherent and 'story-like' than the example. Occasionally it would leave some thread or threads unexplored but with a single act of encouragement (would you mind finishing X?) it would fill out these areas. I got it to write several small stories with various genre.
ChatGPT doesn't actually "scour" the internet to provide answers, it is based on a dataset compiled up to 2021. If it were based on the current internet, it would be able to tell you important events that happened yesterday. No doubt in the near future it will be able to do that however.
I doubt GPT will do that in the near future either. Real time learning is not in the design on purpose. Maybe one day the developers will provide it clean daily datasets for it to learn, but they will not allow it to just grab data from the internet, that would remove all safe guards and make it more bias than it already is.
It is good for the price asked. Do not expect too much from it. I tried it, and after a while becomes so frustrating to work with it, often gives wrong answers and is pain to get it to answer correctly. It is good to quickly give you a reference for the topic you are asking about, but hard work needs to be done by you. I gave it a task to write me a method that I know junior developer may fall into a trap creating memory leak. As expected, ChatGPT has fallen into that trap. It took me 45 minutes to get it to fix the code. With a human, it would take 5 minutes to point out the flaw, and fix it. Not bad piece of software, just do not expect too much from it for now.
It is good no doubt ..I have used this while trying to learn methods etc...however they are over-confidently wrong and misled you...also have also tried to fed a wrong information just want to see if this AI tool learns and give that feedback...guess what it did....so you can always make this tool "fool" by feeding wrong data.......it is a huge fun though ! 😃
