The part where Jim Phelps was found to be the mole. Understandably fans of the original tv series and the legendary Peter Graves were not amused by Phelps being the mole and then killed off (Greg Morris reportedly walked out of the premier screening in protest to the portrayal of Phelps).
I know. I watched Mission Impossible as a kid, and Graves was great, but this move is outstanding, and I believe it is to be one of Tom Cruise's best movies.
The reason they had Jim Phelps turn out to be the mole is because they wanted an excuse to kill him off and replace him with Ethan Hunt. After all, they felt the franchise needed new characters. They should've instead had it where Jim was murdered, along with the rest of the team by another member who tried to make it look like Ethan was responsible. That and have Ethan searching for the mole the whole movie and not finding out until just before the train. Also, still have Clair still turns out to be a mole and keeps the audience guessing as to who the mole is until this scene.
I admit, I rarely watched the original series and only remembered bits and pieces of it, but turning Jim Phelps into a villain was like making "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" with a new cast and Captain Kirk becoming the main villain. A better choice would have been to have Peter Graves return as Jim and have him work with Ethan on a mission, ultimately sacrificing himself to save the day, similar to William Shatner in "Star Trek Generations."
Imagine that in movie 8 we were shown a little more about the life of Ethan Hunt before joining the IMF, and that John Voight cameo as Jim Phelps in his image of a good and noble recruiter and mentor of Ethan, before he took his radical turn of turning Jim into a backstabbing bad boy. It would be great to see him in his nice guy stage if only with a little dialogue as Ethan's advisor.
@floridadad2817 Yeah, you hated it. But be honest. Did you see it coming? No? Exactly. This is the only twist they could've done that wouldn't have been obvious. Phelps is the only person no fan of the original series would've suspected as being the main villain.
@@MrChaotic4 This logic would be like having Hannibal be the bad guy in the A-Team movie. Just because it's a plot twist or unpredictable doesn't mean it's good writing.
I can't think of another franchise that's remained as glorious as this one! The original was a very good movie, but with the notable exception of the second one they have all been at least good and often great. M:I6 was awesome.
I get why fans of the show would be pissed but I have to admit it makes for a cool twist as it’s something you wouldn’t expect. Just like how Scrappy Doo turned out to be the main villain in the first Scooby Doo live action movie lol
I hate when Claire thoaght she was talking to Jim and said no one will believe him and was smiling . Then Ethan took off the mask and she was scared . Thoaght serves you right . But she wasnt suppose to die

It would’ve been a lot better if it had been Jim & Ethan had both survived the ambush on the team and they recruit another IMF team to help them find the mole
Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?
10 all across the board
Destroying the beloved character of Jim Phelps to elevate Tom Cruise to the lead role for the rest of the movies? I’d say that’s a big fat 0

This is the equivalent of if Luke suddenly became a sith out of nowhere in the new sequel
i can understand why fans of the original didnt like this! but for not having seen the originals, i like it a lot.
This final showdown is iconic and a huge part of my childhood.
Fucking millennials ruin everything!

This is a very good idea!
In 2023 we still don’t have glasses that transmit HD video live😢
We don't. IMF does.
The closest thing we've had was Google Glass, and for various reasons that was an utter failure.
Smart watch with screen is commercially available though!)
You don't
As far as we know.
This was such a betrayal to the original series. Jim Phelps would have never done this.
No one under 50 watches the original series, it's irrelevant. Even this film is old as hell but I liked the approach personally.
@@boat1280 Ok Zoomer. All of Gen X watched it when it was rebooted in the late 80s and we're not 50.

The Original show is ancient and was never half as relevant as the movies.
Sometimes people wanna whine just to whine.
Lol. Watching on his Apple Watch in 1996.
This may be where Apple got the idea for the Apple Watch.
I hope the upcoming Mission Impossible dead reckoning films didn't kill off Ilsa Faust
If that happens it would be the day Christopher McQuarrie’s genius from his Oscar winning days went to shit

maybe bearer bonds
Earlier in the movie when he makes the deal with Max he requested $10 million in U.S. Treasury bonds

@@methos1999 yeah, that's fair. Although John Wick is "only" four movies in. I'm not sure they could sustain that for another three.
@@mike18699-e Haha no definitely can't do another three - Keanue would have had to started the Wick franchise much younger.
Tom Cruise Vs Jon Voight
Love the impossible mission, a good movie...
I'm confused as to how Jim was in the baggage car before Ethan.
So bad ass mab
So why did they turn Jim into a bad guy? Shock value?
pretty much
It's the only person that no fan of the original show would suspect being the villain.

They didn't turn Phelps from the TV show into a bad guy, they turned a different agent using the Phelps identity twenty years later into one.
