I nearly cried happyness when I came to your page and saw all the Leningrad Cowboys uploads. You have made my life, and this one being my favorite was uploaded on my birthday so so great, I lost the accordianist Mauri so much his face in this is priceless.
No one? This song was played non-stop in a certain frequency, by the national broadcasting company of Finland, about 1500 times, to stop Soviet radio mines (which used the same frequency to trigger) from exploding in Vyborg in 1941 where Finland moved back in to liberate and take back the Finnish city taken over by Soviet troops.
Fun facts to all non-finns: Leningrad Cowboys is a "Russian" rock n roll-band from Finland, also featured in a road movie which this clip is from: *Leningrad Cowboys Go America* (directed by Finland's oscar-winning director: *Aki Kaurismäki* ). The film is considered today as a Finnish comedy classic. In 1993 after the fall of soviet union, they managed to partner with the ex-Soviet Red Army Choir and organized a concert in the middle of Helsinki Senate Square. The performance: *Total Balalaika Show* consisted of total 160 performers on the same stage and more than 70,000 people came to watch Leningrad Cowboys featuring Red Army Ensemble performing mostly British and American rock-classics respectively. Sounds like pure absurdity doesn't it?
What makes a good band great? The ability to move beyond kitsch and props. These guys KICK ASS! (and don't you think that Kiss got so sick of the props that got them noticed? They outgrew the need for the gear, but were entombed in it! My Bro in law's partner loaned them the original $5000 for their costumes. But that investment paid off well!)
That's part of the joke. They have called themselves "the worst rock and roll band" on several occasions. Heck, it's the setup for the movie, they don't know anything about rock music in the movie and have to learn as they tour the nation...
Even their name is a joke. Cowboys, something American, in communist Leningrad playing music that has nothing to do with cowboys or communism or Leningrad.
I googled: www.sfanytime.com/fi/movie/leningrad-cowboys-go-america?gclid=CjwKCAjwqdn1BRBREiwAEbZcRxMnB4hhgMesFIt1sX5eH1N1oFOFBdoSW6VLAsd8IdynG1gOtuYV5RoCKaIQAvD_BwE I don't know how it works, but you can rent the film, cost: 3€, you can watch it 48 hours. I'm not sure if this works outside Finland.
you think this crazy? i dare you to watch ruclips.net/video/Nl7_0DmwY-E/видео.html and then say you aint seen nuffing yet. :) well, obv this is this crazy punk band or whatevr and they are in this crazy film. i guess both have wikip article or smth. yer welcome. :) btw, Säkkijärven polkka has heavy political connotation, as it was played non stop ... check it out ruclips.net/video/lKLctlI92p0/видео.html or i'll jus copy from there here: "Säkkijärven polkka is a Finnish folk song. It was used in the Continuation War when the Finnish army marched into Viipuri they found that the Soviet's had left radio-controlled mines. This song was played for ~1,500 times from September 1941 to February 1942 to jam these mines. Today the song is one of the most famous Finnish folk songs."
Came from Girl & Panzer, Final 4.
So this is why the girls who playing accordion have that hair style.
Das Finale 4 makes a lot more sense now which makes it even more awesome!
How you were even able to find this video months before the general American/western speaking world were able to watch das finale is crazy.

I watched this as a kid back in the 80s. I still remember the look and music to this day. What an awesome band.
