I’m currently sorting through a massive book haul from last fall. It’s from a sale by the AAUW (an organization of mostly elderly, middle-upper class women), and they collect thousands of donated books each year, sort and price them, and host a month long sale where the books get cheaper and cheaper until they’re free on the last day. Though they go quickly, there are A LOT of vintage books because these women have connections to people and colleges with vintage collections. It isn’t hard to find vintage books that drop your jaw in awe. And the atmosphere shopping there is so friendly- even friendlier than the local bookstore. I think my favourite finds this past year were a tree encyclopedia from 1949 that champions forest preservation that is in perfect condition, and two picture books all the way from the Soviet Union. The last day of the sale, everything is free, so my mom and I picked up a box of books to put out for trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Probably the best trick-or-treat we’ve had, and for the price of nothing!
I LOVE the idea of putting out books for trick or treater, that's BRILLIANT. I absolutely will do that this year, thank you for sharing. Wishing you luck and strength getting through your own book goodies
This was a fun video to watch. I've only seen books at my local Bins once and it was only 1 bin. I identify with your rearranging of the books. I rearrange items, not just books, at thrift stores and estate sales if they are disorganized, in the hopes that making them more visible and attractive will entice someone else to buy them and save them from ending up in a landfill. That barrister bookcase is nice. They are great for storing things and keeping out dust. I got one and committed to only keeping for myself what would fit inside that one, but then found a matching one, so my commitment expanded to the second one. I later found a larger, third bookcase that I use for books that I'm collecting to build bundles or sets.
I’m glad there are others that try to make it easier for others to shop! The barristers are beautiful and I’m so grateful to see more of what I have because they were in boxes before. I use my fireplace mantle for building book bundles
@@B0BBuys Visited the bins this past weekend and they had books! Found a few winners, but got irritated with people shoveling books aside (which caused PB covers to bend) and then one lady that took the books I'd arranged to be spine-up and tossed them to the far side of the bin. Like why?! And these were bins against a wall, so people have to lean way over to get the books that are on the far side (against the wall). So disappointing. I did find out that the books that don't sell at this bins location are purchased by someone by the truckload. Not sure where they go after that, but hopefully not to recycling.
Great video. I have no idea of the value of books, this is amazing. That photographt magazine with the melted floral image on the cover...I kept that around for a few years, as I'm a photographer and it was a good issue. Sold it for 28 bucks plus shipping. A lot of the Stampington magazines sell well as well. They are good high quality magazines dealing with sewing, crafts, greencraft, etc. In any case, saved this video and will definitely watch it again.
So satisfying to see all those books in a row! Also satisfying to put sets together. That is hard work! Also, that guy in the black sweater looking at the books you straightened kinda looks like Richard Nixon, lol (he had some weird mannerisms too)! I envy the book prices at your bins. It's been awhile since I've been, but at my bins here in Portalnd, Oregon, paperbacks are $1.29 and hardcovers are $2.29!
"Nixon" in the background is a regular. He's harmless, but I do try to give him space since I myself am not a fan of being crowded. An added bonus of organizing the books is that more people recognize me as a regular, and chat with me now, which has made going to the bins even more of a joy.
Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed the bins digging & book education. I am a book lover, collector, & seller and 100% approve of organizing the books👍. I do the same at the stores 😊.
I always want to put books in good order, even at the library when I find some that have not been placed in alphabetical order. Your video was very satisfying for the part of my brain that feels that urge. Thanks and congrats on the 5k subscribers!
I’m so glad and thank you! Most the people there are very kind and thank me and I have seen more people actually look at the books when I do it so it does make a difference.
My favorite childhood book is a golden book from 1970. It is fantastically expensive alone on EBay. Last week on goodwill online shop it showed up in a huge lot of golden books. Someone kept outbidding me. Now I’m really on a mission. Haha. My dream find would be the 4 Thornton Burgess books.
Now I’m curious which one it is so I can be on the lookout for it. I know there is one lady that collects them at the bins but I haven’t seen her in awhile.
@@B0BBuys it’s Charlie. It’s really easy to spot from a distance. It’s just a head shot of Charlie a big orange cat on a light blue background. The kids in the neighborhood make him a house, it’s a whole make a person cry story. Hahaha! The Burgess books are small thick hardbacks with just the most beautiful picture pages.
Well you have both shocked me & bummed me out 😂 I found 10 of those Leather-bound Agatha Christie books at the Sal Val a few years back & snatched them up for $1 each. When you said 1985 I thought no way, I remember one of mine being from the 60's & a few from the 70's, with original dates between the 30's-70's. I completely missed that this was a monthly (bi-monthly) subscription club: The Agatha Christie Hardcover Collection. I ended up with: Two from 1983 (January & February) Four from 1984 (October, 2 November's & December) Three from 1985 (March, July & October) One from 1986 (June) There was no rhyme or reason to the donation either. I was so excited to find these I talked with management about buying any others in the back, but there weren't anymore. Only 1 had even been opened & read and someone actually wrote on the title page to return to such & such & their address, in pen! 😡 And then I remembered that my all time favorite book of hers was "Ten Little Indians" & I have it, but of course I have the "And Then There Were None" version which irritates me! I really wish they'd quit switching names to be sensitive. I am First Nation, Native American Indian and can confidently say that!! And if you don't agree, I don't care because it's not your heritage!! Lol I get it, don't name teams, books, etc. that way anymore, be respectful. But leave the rest of it alone: book titles, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians...Just leave it all alone. It's part of all of our history now. It's not derogatory or insensitive to leave it be now. I actually think it's the polar opposite. Anywhoser, there's my diatribe for the day & my lesson learned shared with the class 😂 EDIT: CONGRATULATIONS ON 5K 🎆 🎉🎈 🎊 🎇 Your heatgun looks like the rare Part Time Picker one I have! He didn't sell those for very long. Then again, I think he got a good deal on multiples & just put his sticker on it 😂 but it was inexpensive, it supported him back when I watched his videos and it works! I also started The Hunter series by Mercedes Lackey Friday & I'm almost finished with book #2!! I am really enjoying this series!! I have to thank you for recommending her! I had never heard of her before i started watching your channel, so thank you for that!!!
There were 3 months at the end of 2023 where there were no books, and I was worried they were gone forever. My heart is sad for you, because it really is my favorite thing about going to the bins.
I've seen so many upcycling projects for them, and I've always wanted to learn book binding, but I have too many projects as is. I just give them a loving tap and hope someone else will save them.
Loved this video! I learned so much and really love how you organized the book bin. I collect old editions of Black Beauty because it was my favorite book as a young girl.
The book bins at our Goodwill clearance center are so deep, and they are never full, so you have to basically hoist yourself over the lip of the bin to try to find anything. So frustrating
I've heard that some bins have the deep bins as the display ones. Our bins use those deep bins for bulk buyers as a shopping cart instead of using them to display items, but we get a lot of flea market sellers and also international buyers that send pallets back home. I'm sad to hear your bins is a harder shopping experience.
Thanks for sharing this with us. There's a movie (The Pope's Exorcist) based on that book about the exorcism- I just watched it at a friends house last week. I don't understand why my bins insist on "trying" to sell books for close to what they sell them for in their stores. The demographics of my bins doesn't warrant this. Probably 90% of the everyday shoppers there are coming up from Mexico to buy and take back down there. Since the pandemic, they rarely ever put out glass items, and they raised the price from .19 cents a lb to .99 cents a lb. It saddens me to think of all the stuff that could/would be rescued, but they'd rather it go to the landfill.
I know some goodwills do pallets so maybe one of yours does that and so they rather get full price or pallet price but yeah I’ve heard some goodwills do per pound for books or retail price at the outlet.
Loved seeing your book haul. Glad they brought back 4 book bins at Hampton Goodwill Bin. It was so frustrating when they had no books for months. Might have to do some book digging myself in a couple of weeks. 😊
Yeah the InstaGo 360 is an amazing little camera (even in the housing it’s smaller than a GoPro). I pop it out of the housing and it’s super low profile and came with a magnetic necklace that I attach to my shirt. Totally has been worth the price.

Love Willa Cather. Amazing that she was never assigned in high school or college in this country. Found her later by buying a used book.
It sold, but if I find her again I may keep one to read. I hadn’t heard of her until I found this book.
I love Pearl Buck. Read my way thru most of them even tho they are heartbreaking. Interesting book haul
