This show is really turning out to be a tour de force for everyone involved, for Colin and Cristin primarily, but the production team as well. Like Cortney said, it all just feels so "real," like we aren't just detached observers but we're in the scene itself, because the scenes are shot and structured so intimately with their close-ups and angling, and the way shadow and light is played with so that it really pulls you into the moment. I really hope it keeps its momentum. I've enjoyed looking forward to it.
I used to post on Reddit on my old account different actors who played live-action characters. So far, this is the 4th live-action Penguin (Burgess Meredith, Danny Devito, Robin Lord Taylor, Colin Farrell).
Thanks Jaby, now I’m not gonna be able to hear Colin Farrell as Penguin without hearing Colin Quinn’s voice. I mean he does sound almost exactly like him.
The first thing that the show wants us to learn about Penguin is that his goal as a Mob Boss is to be, “Revered, Loved, Respected, and Remembered”…. I think that foundation is why we can root for him over all the other bad guys.
All of you Agatha haters are determined to put them into the same box so you can sh*t on Agatha some more. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT WATCH IT? It’s not hard. Why even compare the two? Agatha is so much fun! Penguin is a great crime drama show. When will people learn that comic shows and movies don’t have to be one type of story or genre? Just like comic books themselves they can be vastly different! This is like comparing The Sopranos to True Blood…they are so vastly different so why compare them?
You know what I’m starting to love? Sofia’s tic of stuffing her face when she eats. Most of the time she’s so composed and thoughtful in the way she speaks and acts, but there’s always that quality of unhinged predatory viciousness lurking below the surface. The rare times you get to see how much of predator she is is when she devours any food brought in front of her like a lion ripping through the flesh of its victim.

When Cortney mentioned Sophia's eyes it made me realize one of the reasons I think she's so attractive is because Cristin Milioti almost has an anime eyes effect at times when she turns on the crazy like side of the character. If all the episodes are this good the show is going to be amazing. Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌ out.

A lot of what we learn about the Penguin is implicitly told in the Batman. A disability in his leg is shown with his "waddling" in the film and Falcone calling him a gimp. His reputation too is hinted at in his exchange with Batman when he tries to exert his power and rep against him and Batman just turns it back with a "Do you?". Referring to being talked about behind his back as just being Carmine's lackey, Carmine's gimp who he allows to pretend to be boss of his own things but its really just Carmine at the top. Salvatore Maroni was the big mafia boss of the city before Carmine Falcone took over the city. In the comics hes most famous for being the mafioso that throws acid in Harvey Dent's face im court. You might remember him from The Dark Knight being played by Eric Roberts more or less being whats left of the Italian mob.
oz put the knife in the bodyguard's pocket, because it wouldn't do anything if he put it in viti's pocket, since the plan was to put the diamonds in viti's car and frame him for the murderer, but that failed. also that would shake sofia since someone close to her would turn up traitor and making her alone, pushing her toward the only person supporting her.
yes the show definitely explored the motivations that turned the batman villains into what they are. at least in that universe. the riddler had a really good arc there, especially. and as it becomes more clear that the penguin show and the batman sequel may lead to an interpretation of the "no man's land" story, gotham was the first to have already tried their own version.
Penguin 🐧 is best thing happening on the small & large screens. Really hope they leave Batman out of it. His rogues gallery is the absolute best. Their superpowers is their brains 🧠. ✌🏿
His mom was present in Gotham... but glad people finally get to see more of that part in a different series..cz of Matt Reeves. Still Jaby..the DC fan in you, take a dive for that show. It is not perfect..but lots of dynamics in it.
I'm not convinced that Sofia actually thought Castillo killed that guy. Maybe that's how the writers are doing it. But for me, there was just something about her expression and body language while repeatedly demanding Castillo to giver her his gun. We'll see.
I'm seriously loving this series. I alright liked Cristin Milioti in Black Mirror and Palm Springs, but now she's one of my favorite actresses. And Colin has never been better even though he has done many great performances
Just to help you out with a few things he didn't put it on Johnny because he's the number 2 in the families he would need more to frame him so a bodyguard is easier
we have two iconic characters manipulating everyone this season, penguin comes out on top, his tricks are so smooth. in rings of power sauron manipulating everyone somehow worked out because of how stupid the other races are.
Without the jewels, there's nothing to tie Viti to Alberto's murder. He's also too high up to implicate without hard evidence. Viti would just be under suspicion of being a Maroni plant or, worse, a patsy. Castillo, on the other hand, had all the means and opportunity to kill Alberto. As Sophia's bodyguard, he would have known where Alberto was going that night and for what, he could have easily killed Al while Sophie was sleeping that night. Hes just low enough to kill on the evidence they had. He was also the one around the drugged up Maroni the longest. Beyond just the crimes, he's being framed for he iss also Sophia's right hand, and without him, she will need a new one, enter Ozzie-C; the guy who has been recently vindicated of any crime she thinks hed done and has been hyping her up.
Yeah, Batman is not interested in the drop game at the moment, he literally saw a deal go down in front of him when he went to talk to the penguin for information, people out there getting murdered he'll worry about the drop heads later if ever.
Sofia probably eats with her fingers because she may have been too dangerous to give a knife and fork in Arkham... and it became a habit
Good point.

You’re missing out on the Gotham show. Yes there’s no Batman but it shows all the villains and Bruce making the decision to become Batman
yes the show definitely explored the motivations that turned the batman villains into what they are. at least in that universe. the riddler had a really good arc there, especially. and as it becomes more clear that the penguin show and the batman sequel may lead to an interpretation of the "no man's land" story, gotham was the first to have already tried their own version.
We'll see.
50:29 - 🦀 He's the voice of *◇Mr. Krabs◇*
from SpongeBob too 🦀 😉
Castillo wasnt with Sophia the whole time. He was left to guard the prisoners and move him while Sofia was stuffing her face.
this show is a fucking masterpiece
I have a feeling that Oz doesn't plant the knife on Viti simply because he didn't have a loose jacket pocket to put it in ~
Thanks for doing the Penguin Jaby
10:18 well that wasn’t an apple phone anyways
1:13:12 I think she acts that way because everyone treats her so
I’m loving Cristin Milioti in this. She’s fantastic. I hope she makes it to the end!
Clancy Brown aka Sal Maroni is Lex Luther in DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE
And Mr Krabs
18:12 That's not from the car accident. He has a club foot, a birth defect.
I find it a bit to unbelievable that Batman aint even got a sniff about all this antics happening in the show😅
I'm seriously loving this series. I alright liked Cristin Milioti in Black Mirror and Palm Springs, but now she's one of my favorite actresses. And Colin has never been better even though he has done many great performances
can't believe it mr krabs is in prison again lol
That has to be Dr Hugo Strange ..Sophia doctor..🤔 might be a crazy deep Easter egg
Just to help you out with a few things he didn't put it on Johnny because he's the number 2 in the families he would need more to frame him so a bodyguard is easier
I liked this vid and the show!!
episode 2 was a solid 10/10 for me
Gotham actually had alot of decent episodes you should check it out on your off time !
we have two iconic characters manipulating everyone this season, penguin comes out on top, his tricks are so smooth.
in rings of power sauron manipulating everyone somehow worked out because of how stupid the other races are.
Sofia is awesome!
He removed Sofia's bodyguard and confidant
Yeah, Batman is not interested in the drop game at the moment, he literally saw a deal go down in front of him when he went to talk to the penguin for information, people out there getting murdered he'll worry about the drop heads later if ever.
I wander if the joker steals the PURPLE maserati from him later🤔
The show is set in '22 so the new apple id thing where it needs ur attention isn't out yet
The jokes aren’t jokey its good old wise guy bust ya balls humor . I enjoyed episode 1 . 👍🏼
Yeah totally different to what I'd call comic book humor or marvel movie humor which I greatly appreciate
@@MrFredstt Same it was more gritty in my opinion.
Humour*
@MrFreHumour*dstt
Yo guys should watch Gotham. It was very well done
100%!
One of the better tv series of all time. Top 30 for sure. Encapulates gotham vibe perfectly.
Too loooong
Only the first season was solid. Then it turned into shit.
It gets ridiculous quick though, like most CW shows
59:08 in Arkham she said they made her look at newspapers and stuff of the crimes constantly so it’s probably wired into her
