  • This is how you replace the flasher relay in your 2013-2017 Subaru Crosstrek. This procedure can be used if you have the standard incandescent lights as well. I have upgraded my blinker (flasher) bulbs to LEDs from Diode Dynamics.
    www.diodedynam...
    If you decide to upgrade to LED blinkers (flashers) You will need to replace the relay. Just like when one of your incandescent lights burn out you get a fast flashing light on your dash. This is your car letting you know that one of your bulbs has failed. When you install LED flashers and use the stock Subaru relay your new lights will Hyper flash (blink fast). LEDs draw less power, so your car thinks one of you bulbs is burned out. The Hyper flashing can be fixed by installing Diode Dynamics standard Relay for $10 or you could choose to use the same one I purchased. I bought the Smart Tap Relay for $60.
    The Smart Tap relay just offers you more than just blinking your lights when you hit the turn signal.
    Features:
    Plug-and-play installation.
    Tap-to-Signal (One push and your left or right blinker will flash a number of times). You can control the number of flashes.
    Unique Hazard Functions: The relay has a built-in strobe, slo-mo and wig-wag hazard functions. There are a total of eight unique hazard functions.
    Arrival and Departure Modes: When the lock or unlock button is pressed, your turn signals will stay on for visibility when approaching or leaving the vehicle. The light's time can be adjusted from 10-90 seconds Notice: this function is not compatible with every vehicle.
    Also comes with a 3 year warranty.

    My brother replaced the flasher relay on his Forester using the steps you provided and it was a simple job. Great video and like you said, "Don't be afraid to work on your car."
    Peace brother! ☮

    I have to say thank you so much for this video! I changed the flasher on my 2013 legacy using your help. It wasn't exactly the same but similar enough. I wouldn't have any idea where to start without you so thanks again :D

    Great tutorial on changing out that flasher. I don't have a subaru and drive a smart car but I got so irritated trying to figure out how to take it out it sure was a bugger mine is in a weird spot to so video's are always helpful. I wish I could afford to mod my car I would love to add in new seats and interiors, as well as a new canvas top. It's getting a bit old I don't want to waste my money when I get it lol.

      Thanks @Lostgirl hikes Yes, I would have to agree with you. Car manufacturers seem to get a little over creative when they design their cars. One would think the flasher relay would be somewhere a little easier to find and replace. Thanks for stopping by, Take care. Happy hiking. :)

      WOW @robert fouts Thank You So Much for your kind words! You wouldn't believe on some of my videos how many times I do re-shoots. If its not right the first time..... put it back together and do it again. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I know that there has to be complete detail in a video. Most people that work on their own cars will understand anything. The detail is for those that don't want to put out a bunch of money paying a mechanic to do something they can easily do themselves. Don't be afraid to work on your car. :)

      Time to get the meter out and test the positive side of each individual light. Sounds like you have a short. (a bare wire) one of these connections is grounded out.

    • @IamWedge

      I checked Oriellys Auto parts and the part # is the same for 2014 Crosstrek, Outback, and Legacy. Odds are the location is similar. Open the panel under the steering wheel, turn the blinker on, and follow the sound. Let me know if it's the same area. Thanks @Marlon Swaby

    TEDD is thinking of getting a crosstrek, Doug what do you think about the vehicle as a whole?

    • @IamWedge
      @IamWedge  5 лет назад

      Whats up @Wonder Wife ? The Crosstrek as a whole is a great car. I bought this one new back in 2014. I've got almost 98.000 miles on it. I have no complaints about it. As you know I live in Minnesota, so its great in the snow and on the ice. My wife pointed out when I was buying it that she was concerned I'd get stuck in the snow. She didn't think it had very good clearance. I think it had 3/4" more ground clearance than my Blazer. Feel free to drop me an email if you have an more questions. Thanks for stopping by and Take care.

    This may be a dumb question, but I just got my 2013 Crosstrek. My Low beams went out, but I can't find a replacement relay to save my life. I've tried replacing fuses, but still no luck. Any thoughts?

    • @IamWedge
      @IamWedge  Год назад

      You will have to look in the fuse/relay box under the hood. The box is located right behind the battery. Remove the cover and look on the underside of the cover. It should give you a layout of all the fuses and relays. Look for Low Beam Fuse. OR Go to this page. Scroll down to the "Assignment of fuses in the engine compartment (2011-2015") Check Fuse for No.6 (Headlight (low fuse-box.info/subaru/subaru-crosstrek-xv-2011-2017-fuses#2011_2012_2013_2014_2015 Test the fuses with a meter if you like or use a meter to test the connection at the light to see if they have power.

    Thanks for the vid. Did LED bulb upgrades all around our 2013 Outback. Though not the crosstrek, almost identical process. I did snap that retainer clip, but it's pretty cold where I am so I'm sure that plastic is much more brittle. A little hacking and I was able to reuse it.

    • @IamWedge
      @IamWedge  2 года назад

      Glad it worked out for you @Matt Foster What car did you do it on so I can add it to the list. I hear ya about the cold and plastic parts. I try not to do any plastic work up in my neck of the woods during winter. Plastic does get brittle in the cold. Thanks for watching. :)

    Mr. Wedge.......You're so right. No one describes why a push pin is made the way it is or the many electrical connectors, of how they are made to mate and how they work. That's why I admire your work. You TEACH more than just showing a video so I can understand that the time factor must be paramount. Thanks for all your time and effort.

    The relay slides right off that white plastic mount. You do not have to remove it.

    • @IamWedge
      @IamWedge  2 года назад

      You obviously have a flasher relay that wasn't seated all the way on that mount. Once locked in place, it will not just slide off that plastic mount. Could also be a broken lock or a missing step on the relay.
