I think all of Luigi's possesions are the reason he's so easily scared and doesn't like to go on solo adventures; that way Mario can stop him if he gets possesed again
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, its predecessor and literally all other Mario RPGs that came before Bowser's Inside Story (the ones that came after Super Paper Mario were good except for Sticker Star, but they did play it safe in comparison to older Mario games even if at times, they could feel like the Mario RPGs that came before the 2010s), they could extremely deserve better because they were not afraid to get dark (but in an atmospheric way instead of an edgy way). But there are more major reasons why like their visuals, their battle systems, their soundtracks and their very deep, profound stories.

Super Paper Mario is a very dark and emotional story with a bright, colorful and cheerful coat of paint. Dimentio outright *kills* all the main characters before you go to the Underwhere. And let's not forget Count Bleck's constant nihilism and how, if he succeeded, the worlds, all worlds, would cease to be entirely. We even get to see it happen to one of them! Also not gonna mention how in Galaxy 1 when Mario dies from electricity he becomes a skeleton? _That traumatized me back then._
And Bleck is one of those villains that acted out of heartbreak, let’s not forget that. Then he noticed the severity of what he has done when he realized his love was actually alive

I just thought of another dark Mario moment from dream team. Remember when Mario went into "dreams deep" in Luigi's dreams and it's explained as all of Luigi's hidden thoughts and emotions. And throughout the whole adventure in dreams deep all of Luigi's thoughts are all over the place. The one that got me was one that said "don't leave me behind again bro!" Proving Luigi really gets hurt when Mario doesn't bring him along not to mention how much he loves his bro
Sticker Star isn't even that bad as a game on it's own, it's actually decent. But as a Paper Mario game... yeah it's pretty garbage compared to the others.

If you're looking for a good dark moment, I recommend Partners in Time with the invasion force of the Shroobs and Princess Shroob. Completely psychotic, deal in genocide, harvests the souls of Toads to fuel their own spaceships, nearly corrupted and destroyed Yoshi Island, transforms other characters into non-sentient fungi, and chant destroy over and over again... Partners in Time could almost fill an entire list of Dark Mario Moments by itself.
I think a moment worth mentioning is anything involving the Shroobs. Particularly their destruction of Holly Jolly Village. They’re the main villains of Mario & Luigi Partners in time. These vile poison mushroom aliens invade the mushroom kingdom of the past. Turning the victims into lifeless shells as they drain their life force for fuel, decimate innocent towns, and don’t even understand concepts such as kindness, friendship, and compassion. All they understand is an empty existence of “destroy, Destroy, DESTROY!!!”
That's one of the reasons why I strongly respect PhantomStrider. His taste in Mario games (outside of the fact that he praised Mario's Early Years which is so underwhelming and unimpressive that it makes Sticker Star look like the original Paper Mario) is why we sub to him.

Personally I think Luigi's death in Smash is a lot more dark than Mario's deaths in Super Mario 64. At least with Mario's deaths in that game, they were more slapstick and cartoony while Luigi's death in Smash was more graphic with his corpse having a more disturbingly real look to it with his blank eyes and his mouth hanging open.

To be honest, the creepy factor is removed by the fact that all you do in the World of Nothing is walk right for what feels like 5,000 years, and fight Mr.L, also, he's already mentioned Super Paper Mario two times, and only one time it got it's own entry, especially in a top six, I prefer different games per entry, if you have so much games to tackle.
Kiersten Flesburg To call Kirby “The King Of Nightmare Fuel” is debatable among many other franchises that have Nightmare Fuel in them or that does the “Scary and Cute” trope like Kirby. Plus, I’m sure that at this point all of us can see that “Oh, Kirby is not all that it seems to be” thing so it’s really not much of a “unique unexpected topic” to bring up. If anything, it’ll just create another boring video with the same points being made like they already had before with Kirby fans in the views and comments section eating it up. If the content creator were to have an enjoyable style and personality to them, it probably could make the redundant topic on paper seem less boring.
Great list! I don't know if you've played any Kirby games, but I'm a huge fan of the series and it can get surprisingly dark and creepy, especially with its final bosses. In case that's something you want to think about. No matter what you cover next, though, keep up the great work!

Nice work on the video Strider! Your Super Mario 64 death montage somehow felt hilarious to me due to the juxtapositions of the various deaths and the cartoony sound effects. And for a future video game list, I think I recommend a list of the saddest/darkest backstories of Nintendo characters. Candidates ought to be Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy and Samus from Metroid.

Twilight Princess the game was dark but was held back by not fully exploring it, the racism between Hylians, Zora, and Gorons was really interesting but never became anything, like most of it really. So the manga manages to take even implications and explore them more, the game goes for Tell Don't Show Enough and the manga manages to do it. If there is a reimagining of someday do I hope it takes inspiration from the manga..!

To be honest, the creepy factor is removed by the fact that all you do in the World of Nothing is walk right for what feels like 5,000 years, and fight Mr.L, also, he's already mentioned Super Paper Mario two times, and only one time it got it's own entry, especially in a top six, I prefer different games per entry, if you have so much games to tackle.
I can say I would love to see more video game countdowns by you, PhantomStrider. You rock and your videos always entertain.

Kiersten Flesburg To call Kirby “The King Of Nightmare Fuel” is debatable among many other franchises that have Nightmare Fuel in them or that does the “Scary and Cute” trope like Kirby. Plus, I’m sure that at this point all of us can see that “Oh, Kirby is not all that it seems to be” thing so it’s really not much of a “unique unexpected topic” to bring up. If anything, it’ll just create another boring video with the same points being made like they already had before with Kirby fans in the views and comments section eating it up. If the content creator were to have an enjoyable style and personality to them, it probably could make the redundant topic on paper seem less boring.

Crash Bandicoot, Shantae, Mr. Driller, Rayman, MegaMan, Bomberman, Pop n Music and Puyo Puyo should be your next topics.
Great list! I don't know if you've played any Kirby games, but I'm a huge fan of the series and it can get surprisingly dark and creepy, especially with its final bosses. In case that's something you want to think about. No matter what you cover next, though, keep up the great work!

Nice work on the video Strider! Your Super Mario 64 death montage somehow felt hilarious to me due to the juxtapositions of the various deaths and the cartoony sound effects. And for a future video game list, I think I recommend a list of the saddest/darkest backstories of Nintendo characters. Candidates ought to be Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy and Samus from Metroid.

Twilight Princess the game was dark but was held back by not fully exploring it, the racism between Hylians, Zora, and Gorons was really interesting but never became anything, like most of it really. So the manga manages to take even implications and explore them more, the game goes for Tell Don't Show Enough and the manga manages to do it. If there is a reimagining of someday do I hope it takes inspiration from the manga..!
