I'm sure a lot of you already know, but on May 23rd 2024 the remake for the GameCube CLASSIC Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door released for Nintendo Switch!
If you're looking this far down, I can tell you that this Prince Mush Boss or Superboss battle whaterver you wanna call it was super fun!
RUclips does have a 12 hour stream limit, so I probably won't finish the game in one single stream. I'll be back with more once I've gotten some sleep.
Also keep in mind I won't be reading that much text or talk to NPC's. This first playthrough will be a first look at mechanics, oddities, classic exploits and general game-feel/improvements. A more slow and casual look is sure to come later.
CHECK OUR CASUAL TTYD PLAYTHROUGH ► • Paper Mario: The Thous...
I will of course try to pay attention to what's new. The Shadow Sirens and Vivian changes come to mind. Though I am also very excited for all the changed and BRAND NEW music.
Let's hope Intelligent Systems and Nintendo did our treasured classic justice!

The strongest Glitz Pit fighter of today
"Nah, I'd win" - Mario
Did you just....make a Jujutsu reference?
This is exactly what I was thinking of when I saw this superboss
@@GameTornado01even more peak if you fully understand the reference 😂
DAMMIT YOU BEAT ME TO IT 😂
I think the reason he dislikes cake is because he fell for Rawk Hawk's poisoned Cake
It makes sense if you consider Prince Mush and Rawk Hawk's respective tattles. Prince Mush 'never fights dirty' and Rawk Hawk 'never fights above the board'. Honestly I doubt that line exists for any other reason than to explain how Rawk Hawk beat Prince Mush.
Honestly I love how Nintendo still leaves little details like this even now that it has been 20 years
There’s also a dude who mentions that Rawk Hawk must be pretty nice cause he gave Prince Mush a cake.
Which explains how Grubba was able to capture Prince Mush and drain his energy. He probably did it after Rawk Hawk beat him. Grubba is nothing compared to full power Prince Mush.
thats what i assumed
Prince Mush could probably have solo’d the Shadow Queen and Bonetail at the same time and blown up the Moon base with his busted stats 😂 Grubba is the true villain for locking him up.
Lenny knew the Prince mush fight would be real, he's an insider!!
I was hoping for some new content for the remake a while back. I just didn't expect they take their ques from the Paper Mario modding community.
The fact that superguarding is essential to break his guard is nuts.
The post-game refights from the Super Mario RPG remake also felt inspired by mods (especially the Punchinello and Booster refights). Perhaps a sign that Nintendo is slowly, and in their own way (in other words, like usual) beginning to show appreciation for what their fans can do?
@@devonm042690 I think it's 100% possible that devs at Nintendo are fans of mods and draw inspiration from them for the remakes, just the higher ups don't appreciate the community's work because of weird company policy.
@@devonm042690or just plagiarism
As long as you superguard Mush can't do anything. He goes into his weakened stance every time regardless of phase
@@chriskoloski32 Yeah, but uh... Good luck with that.
Miraculously, I just managed to defeat him on my first try, although it cost me a few Life Shrooms in the process.
For the longest time since the original Gamecube version came out, I've read multiple early fanfictions where characters always talked about how Prince Mush was this ultimate Glitz Pit fighter they could never defeat. Because back then he only appeared in that one cutscene after Grubba's defeat the tightly knit community sort of provided their own interpretations about how invincible he was. Thanks to this remake, I finally managed to experience that same built up status the early fanfiction community always hyped up about him. In a way, I finally saw closure to what I read decades ago.
Mario: "Ha ha, a-sure Prince Mush, I'll a-do a little match against a-you. Let's-a give them a show, okay?"
Prince Mush: *turns Super Saiyan* "Very well, Mario. Show me the power of this new generation."
Mario: "Eheh... a-what? OWOWOWOWOWOWOW!" *gets multi-hit flying kick combo'd*
Goombella: His power! It’s over NINE THOUSAND!!!
June 6th 1996 aka the day the n64 released.
Kengan Ashura and Baki Movie on Netflix 5 Days from now
You can see why Rawk Hawk resorted to giving Prince Mush a poisoned cake before their match in the past. Dude was on a completely different level
He's like the Master from Paper Mario Dark Star. Goddamn!
But can Mush detect save states?
@@redacculouseven worse, he can make his own save states
@@redacculouswhen I fought him he unironically crashed my switch, so probably yeah
How the heck did Grubba even beat him to begin with?
Probably tricked him to such his power. Rawkhawk had to poison him just to stand a chance
Probably took advantage of Mush still being poisoned from Rawk and sucked him then.
Wasn't Grubba a very dirty fighter back in his prime?
Maybe Mush wanted to complain to Grubba about Rawk Hawk poisoning him with the cake, and accidentally found his secret, and Grubba just had an easy time getting rid of him because he was weakened by the poison
He wasnt this strong back then this fight is unlocked via a message from him telling you he has been training hard to make his return and has become much stronger
That one attack where he hits multiple times comes straight from the 64 Master Quest hack. They’ve been paying attention to the hacking scene and I love it. This coupled with fightable whacka proves it
This boss is absolutely cracked, and i love it.
Actually Prince Mush was meant to be in the original version but was cut off. It’s an reference to it. Also I believe this fight to be a remembrance of the Dragon Ball z creator who passed away this year
That's an INSANE boss. Holy hell. Plus the fact that superguards are required?!?! Insane.
not much of a surprise. they added superguards, might as well make a boss built around using them.
@@TheUltimateRare
A 3 frame window is a bit tight, don't you think?
@@TheUltimateRare Superguards were in the OG TTYD..
@@BaconNukethey were but this game it’s harder to hit action commands then in the original.
Even in the original 1 simplifier barely effected super guard you needed both for to make any difference at all on super guard.
Its still an optional SUPERboss at the end of the day, im glad its insanely difficult considering that the rest of the game is relatively easy
As crazy as it sounds, Ms. Mowz is a GODSEND for this fight. Love Slap him whenever he’s doing his side-to-side stance.
I disagree. She just cannot put out enough damage within enough time.
@@Novarchareskwhat about Power Lift, Power Drinks and Charges?
@@Novarcharesk 24 damage in one turn with Mowz. She's absolutely able to do it if you have enough items saved up to stall him out, but it takes way too long for it to be viable for every attempt against him
This fight's a whole fighting game reference. The attacks, the stances, the parry mechanic(superguard), etc.
Omg his stances are just him guarding high/low I see it now
That is so cool that they did this. They could have just had this game as it is without superbosses, and we would have loved it, but they went above and beyond.
They could have done a lot more imo they could have made like a full on boss rush pit its much better then the original for sure but I was hoping there would be more towards endgame
Speak for yourself, I would have loved more content.
Twilight Princess got a whole wolf dungeon. I kinda wanted something like that.
Yeah that was dope and it let you get a 20 Heart Wolf in the Breath of The Wild Game via Hard Earned Wolf Link Amiibo @@GamingTopTen
@@GamingTopTen they didnt have too but they at least gave us extra shit. Im appreciating that since its been the norm that remasters just stay remasters
We can say that devs are still goated on making boss fights
Prince Mush: Hey Mario, I heard you're pretty strong!
I Beat this guy yesterday right after finishing the glitz pit which was super satisfying, I am really happy he only popped up in the remake cause they really pulled a great boss fight here.
At first I was disappointed about the lack of new content and so on but they did such good job working on bosses and their charms in this that I just love it so much
There's something special about when the devs for an all-ages game go all out with the intensity of an optional endgame boss
Culex and Master 3 are really good and Bonetail caps off a trial that pushes people to invest in the game mechanics after the story is done. Kirby True Arena comes to mind, Trainer Red seems to fit the bill, but Battle Facilities are an even better example in Pokémon, pushing back against using ordinary teams in favor of learning somewhat of metagaming. All-ages games are usually casual to the credits roll and if they have something that pushes you to optimize your play it’ll deliver for people who get really into the game. Even Mario 3D games usually have something like that nowadays, but instead of a superboss it’ll be a stage gauntlet for a final challenge.
I do love the fact that they felt they could get away with having a boss where superguarding is *mandatory,* since, assuming it's still a 3 frame window like the original, the timing for them is twice as generous as it used to be due to the remake running at 30fps [so 1/10th of a second vs 1/20th in the original]
And that's without mentioning how Frankley will teach superguarding in the guarding tutorial now, and you can always try to practice and get a general feel for the timing with Battle Toad [they shoulda named him Comba T. or somethin' tbh] at almost any time
It definitely seems like they wanted to make sure that most folks new to TTYD would keep it in mind as a risk/reward option in their kit that's worth using and getting good with, and Mush is effectively the ultimate test of that
It's definitely not still 3 frames, especially since the game was tweaked to work in 30fps. It's most likely 2 frames imo, which is still easier (1/15th of a second to the original's 1/20th), but not too easy
I don’t believe it, I saw a comment a long time ago about some said they wanted a secret fight against Prince Mush and now their wish came true
I played TTYD for the first time four years ago and felt like redoing the glitz bit was a bit underwhelming since we didn't get any new fights on the gamecube, but glad they showed how strong the prince can be.
I now want this game so much more. Prince Mush boss = hell yes
i decided to beat mush today after beating chapter 6 and wound up using 2 simplifiers and charge to basically one shot with yoshi
i really think they shouldda made em survive on 1 hp during that final phase of the fight where you have to superguard; i had gotten to that part a couple times
it really does feel like a mod boss and i kinda love it
I think they wanted to create something absurdly hard, but still able to be beaten by more casual players. If he survived with 1hp and a superguard was straight up mandatory, a lot of people probably wouldn't be able to ever beat him. But a well-strategized player can rack up enough attack buffs to take him out before he reaches that phase
this guy is literally reversing everything we know about this game...
THAMZ IS THAT YOU??
Prince Mush's battle music actually kinda reminds me of the Golden Sun games, ngl.🤔
You know it's serious when not only does he deal FP damage, but *also starts dodging*

I never thought a toad of all people could give me such a challenge.
This makes me wonder what they did to the Pit of 100 Trials more than anything now.
no spoilers, but yes. if you redo the pit after killing bonetail, a bigger threat is waiting for you.
@@byronlee991017 yep I just saw his new video about that. Lol
oh wow, someone that remembers/mentions sticker star ninji's shtick
The first time I beat Prince Mush, I spent like ten turns just charging Yoshi (named him Gonzoshi, Gonzo for short), and then using Ground Pound, since it gradually diminishes the same way as Power Bounce/Multibonk. The _first_ attempt at that strategy, I flubbed, because I wasn't paying attention to his stance, but then I did it again and hit at the correct time. I managed to take him out in one go, skipping his later phase.
It felt kinda cheap, though, so I fought him again to cap off my 100% completion, and restatted at Chet Rippo's specifically to have a more even stat spread instead of dumping everything into BP. And it was _so_ satisfying nailing the superguard and taking him out properly, without phase skips.
this was my first time EVER playing this game, thank god they have that toad where you can practice super guard, you're gonna need, especially in his last phase
I went into this fight with exactly 25 HP, and I had 24 health. Suddenly, Merlee shows up. "I mean, it's not like he's been charging that many times, right? I can live this."
I audibly yelled when I fucked up the superguard and I was left with 3 health remaining, exactly the amount of defense points that Merlee had given me.
I had an actual protagonist plot armor moment.
I went to do the pit of 100 trials immediately afterwards and I clutched Bonetail for similar reasons too, though that one was because I accidentally got myself into peril and activated Mega Rush.
Bro started beating the shit outta mario
Prince Mush could take on the Final Boss and The 100 Pits Boss if he wanted to.
Which 100 pits boss
WHY DID THE TOAD GO SUPER SAIYAN
I want to see someone beat this boss using only cake related items like Zess Dynamite.
Sadly, I tried using Zess Dynamite in my battle against him, and he's immune.
Maybe his cake trauma made him immune to everything cake.
Goombella said in her tattle log that Prince Mush doesn’t rely on any dirty tricks…
Cleft shit. Mush has so many hacks and cheap tactics it’s not even funny.
Goombella: “He fights fair!”
Mush: **can literally become invincible unless you superguard**
@@thembigstonks7016thats not a trick, thats pure skill.
How is anything he does dirty?
@@thembigstonks7016 I guess it's a taste of how the enemies feel when you superguard all their attacks, taking no damage. At least Mush doesn't counter lol his attacks do enough as is.
Mario:
- wields the magical powers of 7 legendary artifacts
- brings 7 partners into a fight that can all absorb damage for him and tag out freely via quickchange badge
- Uses items to heal in the middle of the fight, carrying up to 20 of them.
- Too many crazy good badges to name.
- Can superguard attacks, nullying damage.
Also Mario when Mush blocks/dodges an attack: "Cheater!"
I almost beat him at level 12. Super Appeal and Art Attack. I lost when he had 23 hp left. Not bad for him starting at 96hp and Mario's max hp only being 15.
I used the return postage, and it made it to where he can’t multihit. He only hits you once, and guards immediatley stopping movement on his end. I don’t know if it works for zap tap, but I don’t see why not. I like this, as you could use zap tap to do the same thing to the master in paper Mario 64
Mush is immune to electricity, so Zap Tap specifically doesn’t work
14:38 Things said moments before disaster.
I got it in 2 attempts, went for the old reliable peril partner with both yoshi and mowz, alternating between the 2 for his stance. Went for art attack when he was at 15 but messed up with him still at 1 but managed to supergaurd his insane super move
Once I got superguard down this fight was easier than Shadow Queen imo, but I had more fun with this one. I don't do danger Mario, though. Just 30/30/60 stats.
All this Remake is missing is a Boss that can’t miss so it can screw over Danger builds.
13:51 Isn't it obvious? He went super sayan /j
The Superguard makes Prince Mush the toughest foe in the game, because he's the only one you can't cheese with Boo Sheets and Repel Capes.
No, but you *can* cheese him in one turn with the danger set up and deal hundreds of damage from a power bounce provided you were grinding off of Amazy Dayzees in Twilight Town to get enough BP and like 20+ power rushes from the parlor.
What irks me is that he can evade attacks occasionally without having the evade buffs on. Which is a pain in the ass when you buff your attack and you use piercing blow and he just dodges.
that's why you pay attention to his stance. its not random.
I actually managed to beat him blind on my first try before chapter 5. Solely because I caught on quickly to super guard timings. Didn’t give him the chance to do any crazy stuff
I definitely did not use peril goombella multibonk to destroy him
With a Toad that has this much power, is there any question as to why he was the first champion of the Glitz Pit?
Somehow, I was able to beat Prince Mush after Chapter 4 with 15 HP on my first try, Superguarding all his attacks...I literally shit you not.
Wtf am I on ._.

The N64 was released in 96.
Maybe that’s his birthday too.
I have a Danger Mario setup will that work?
Whilst (personally) the superboss is a great addition to add an extra layer of challenge, I am still quite bummed there was no Boss Rush arena (which could've been a ruined Glitz Pit), but that could just be me not feeling as challenged after besting The Pit, maybe the next Paper Mario will be able to address TTYD's remake flaws.
its not necessarily a flaw of the game but rather a bummer for the absolute best of players.
@@squiddu Yeah, though knowing me, I might be overestimating myself (Also, HOW HAS IT BEEN 2 MONTHS, IT FEELS LIKE WAY MORE!).
Is this the equivalent of the master from Paper Mario 64?
Why not use Gulp? It does much more damage than mowz and pierces defense
He completely blocks Gulp
I beat him first turn with a one hit KO special. Looks like a fun fight
How did Grubba even beat him? Did he down a whole poisoned wedding cake?
Superguarding him puts prince mush in a weakened defense and undodgeable state most attacks you do he will fully defend you are forced to super guard him in his later stances
She is basically Toadnator fused with Master
Did you just call Prince Mush a she?
Does the badge you get after the 100 pit trails work against him???
20:36 Sadly, you can just do that (i just did it myself).
Not a native Japanese speaker, but best I could come up with with the 96 6 6 joke would be くろ ろ ろ.. くろ(Kuro) meaning black or dark, and the other ろ(ro) just kind of being like an echo?
96 HP, 6 Attack, 6 Defense... Damn, he's tougher than the final boss, isn't he? Yes, said boss has more HP and Attack, but 6 Defense is A LOT.
His defense drops to zero the turn after you superguard him, so if you fight him properly, he's not nearly as insane.
Prince Mush could have soloed the final boss
superguard is the key to beat mush
This Guy is so cracked. AND if u are unlucky like me IF he survives with 1 HP u HAVE to superguard his Combo Attack. Otherwise u CANT kill him cause he is not attackable. Lost like 4 Life Shrooms on this Guy cause i failed the Superguard. And i had like 15 HP. Each Wave 1 shottet me. If i didnt superguard the FIRST wave, i couldnt superguard the others cause i was dead even in the combo. Thats soo brutal. In my 2. Playthrough i wanna do him as fast as the game let u fight him for an even more challenging fight
Rawk Hawk couldnt even beat him WITH a poisoned Cake.
I mean he could beat the Shadow Queen in 2 Turns. Thats ridiculous
You know how he goes Super Saiyan at half HP? Turns out, you can completely bypass that! If you bring him from >50% HP to 0 in one turn, you don't give him the chance.
Yes, I literally just did this. It's not a theory. It did work.
(Disclaimer: it is June 1st, 2024 as I type this. This strat might be patched out later)
I also noticed the 666 in his stats 😂 don't know if the 96 was kinda like reverse yin yang cus 69 wouldn't sit well
Guess no one knows exactly how to trigger this boss because some are saying they only got it at the end of the game while I got it at chapter 5 and others are saying as early as chapter 4
It's beating Chapter 3 and doing that trouble where you clean up dirty shorts and in like an hour of real time he wants to throw hands. So you need to do that trouble and a good bit of waiting.
9:10 9...6-6-6? 😶
I didn't have this unlock until after the pit of 100 trials after chapter 7 so I had a easier time. Idk what decides when you get the mush email it seems to be trouble center plus waiting or doing stuff
After the trouble in like 30 minutes she thanks you for cleaning the shorts then like 30 minutes later he emails you to throw hands.
@@cartergamegeek So that's how it works
Use the D pad when using power lift.
Jeez I can’t wait to get this game.
Its so obvious they took inspiration from dark star and such
Is this possible to beat without superguarding ?
Sadly no because he will block every attack you use unless you supergaurd. Maybe crystal stars could work but you do need supergaurd to drop his defense
You gotta buff up a Power Bounce so you can bypass the second phase. But please don’t be a bitch. Play the fight out.
You can theoretically boost your damage so high that you KO him in a single round, likely via Danger Mario strats, but without that? Superguards are your only choice.
it was SO cool, now its easy bro, just abuse charge.
his stats are 9 666 clearly this means prince mush is gaster
You can do power lift with the Dpad in the remake
I got through the first time and I swear it was ONLY because I used Ms Mowz as a meat shield, and had her use 2 life shrooms. I then used Power Lift, and I had only tried this once getting the Ultra Boots, AND I used several badges to boost my lethality. Oh, and I did manage to fluke out 2 superguards, stunning him.
AND I'm good at the game. I think my success was a fluke, frankly.
I first fought this Boss after chapter 5 and it didn't work out, so I ran away. Then I did him before the last chapter and I could actually do something and beat him. Then I did him again, just for revenge, after I completed the whole game and oneshot him with a +32 charge and Power Bounce. This felt very good.
For some extra context: he came in thinking this battle would be easy because it's unlocked after Chapter 5.
He did not know it was a superboss.
I unlocked it after Chapter 4.
I was NOT ready.
What exactly is the trigger for this boss appearing? When I played, I didn’t get the email for it until after beating the game.
@@reidinator13 I don't know, but I got it after becoming Glitz Pit champion again, completing Jolene's trouble (where she mentions Mush planning a comeback), and completing Chapter 4.
Completing Chapter 5 isnt the trigger. I am in Chapter 7 and cant fight him yet
@@reidinator13allegedly the trigger is doing zess Ts mission at the trouble center after chapter 4
apparently 9666 in Japan means "spiritual growth, development, balance, and harmony." which is really fitting for prince mush
I’m impressed how much meaningful things numbers can have in a place. The Galar Gym jerseys mean something to them, the song Okkusenman has a number to it. It’s also very nice that the aforementioned number is over nine thousand too.
god I fuckin love this boss, if this is what the new devs are capable of with the classic battle system then I reaaaally hope the next game goes back to the old style
Can't wait to take 30 damage on a Chapter 2 boss
for real i always complained about ttyd being way too easy except for shadow queen
Prince Mush is the Master on crack, It's wild the power discrepancy between Mush and everything else in the PM universe.
The Master on (Pro Mode) crack.
Bro could probably solo the Shadow Queen.
Dude I feel like his one attack where he paused before striking is a direct reference to him
Only this time Zap Tap will not save you here.
Another way it’s like 64 mods: if you use Vivian to dodge his charge attack, he charges AGAIN.
that is such a good troll
"Oh you missed it! Don't worry bud, lemme do it again!"
Bro really said
“Heh heh, nice try. *gasps in air* Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru”
*Proceeds to fucking combo in DOUBLE DIGIT NUMBERS OF DAMAGE KILLING YOU IN ONE MOVE*
I remember trying to do that and after he charged again I thought “I’m SO screwed right now” 🤣
"I have armor lock, you cannot possibly hurt me!"
"I count six seconds, f*ckface"
For someone who playes fair he sure has a lot of immunities
shrink wouldn't help much anyway lol his phase changes probably remove it.
He’s immune to everything.
I’ve tried volt shrooms, soft worms, even the defense piercing stuff.
And even if you whittle him down significantly he can start dishing out massive damage you will not survive if you don’t super guard in phase 2.
I can’t time the super guards even with simplifier though I’m told just one simplifier doesn’t effect super guard much.
Guess I’m gonna have to come back after chapter 6
He plays fair, and also forces you to play fair, with none of this "Status effect" garbage.
the only thing i dont really like about this fight is the explosion immunity
as a person who loves bobbery and using bobbery it just kinda meant the partner i like using most wasnt able to do anything at all
@@spencerbowden2979
Defense piercing definitely does work, hell, Piercing Blow was pretty much the only way I was doing real damage to him, and likewise Ms. Mowz was the only partner that could get _any_ damage off of him, at least given my straightforward deal of fighting, I'm sure the Danger/Peril strat min-maxers could think of like 10 ways to make most of the other partners get damage in
Thinking about it, I feel like that's pretty much why he has 6 defense and explosion immunity, so partners [for the most part] can't directly do anything to Mush and at best they just have to be support for Mario in what is otherwise effectively a 1v1
This boss feels like a direct response to the TTYD Meta
-His stances means you can't simply jump all the time, meaning no Jumpman and limited Power Bounce
-His multiple charge turns trolls using Veil
-Pretty certain his final attacks always target Mario so multiple Partner switching for health is pointless
well kinda, but 6 or 7 power rushes + jumpman, rally wink, power bounce x2 on turn 2 still does his whole hp bar and skips the 2nd phase.
if it worked more like the ch 5 lord crump fight with a hard damage cap into phase 2 then it might be a slightly better response to the meta, otherwise I agree
I still managed to cheese this boss by super guarding and then charged power bounce lmao. But yeah, this boss is crazy.
Veil already sucked.
I did it using my hammer only since I wanted a challenge.
