I like how this reviewer likes the looks of this car. They are usually panned. I own one, and I happen to think it's among the prettiest of all bimmers... especially the parts that most reviewers object to, the side panels, which have crisper, more intelligent lines than any other BMW, in MHO.
naturalyshocked, you could say the same thing about the Miata: it's not an pushrod engine. it doesn't have leaf springs. it doesn't have stir axles. it has multilink suspention or atleast independ suspention on all 4 wheels on all models ever produced.
MiloYellowknee Even the 128i (the non-turbocharged version of the 135i), of which I have a good copy, is quite fast. No matter what gear you are in, when you step on it, it GOES. If your need for speed does not go to extremes, it's a great drivers' car.
I just got a 135i and my shop has an SS Camaro with a Bully Dog ecu flash (not sure if it's officially available yet). The Camaro is an absolute beast in a straight line. The Brembos are really good, but the car feels clunky and heavy and the visibility does suck. The interior pales in comparison to the BMW, though. The Camaro seats are no match for the sport seats in the BMW. It is definitely more of a muscle car than a sports car. I say go for the 135i.
Bimmers weren't made to drift straight from the factory, they're made to go very fast in straight lines yet still be able to whip around corners and through the canyons. Great cars but their not Silvia's,I would compare it to a base model corvette not as much brute force and power but close enough and it handles better
my friend double wishbone allows full surface of the tire to be in contact with the road in turning allowing better handling vs struts, struts r cheaper n fixed u cant lower ur car or get bigger tires n when ur car's body rolls in a turn the tires will not have full contact of the road. Its well documented n proven, only reason they use struts in small cars that its simple n increases front leg room n comfort.
@werdupuboyee Part1: Struts dont allow much vertical movement leading to sway, body roll, uneven tire contact with the road, uneven wear & positive camber leasding to understeer & more steering effort.Double wishbone allows negative camber control during turning & normal in str8 line. Its better as it allows more even contact of the tires with the road at all times. The Nissan GTR can corner harder, faster at higher speed than a 911 bcoz if has a double wish front susp.
Why do the reviewers all say the 135 is the entry level BMW? Isn't the 128 the entry level car? The 135 comes standard with 18" tires, performance suspension and a few other upgrades to the 128. Even if you order the 128 with the performance suspension or the M Package, it still does not come with 18" wheels. Hmmm...
and 4 wheel active steering is meant to have better handling n turning in high speeds in twisty roads, chicanes n S turns on the track,in two wheel steering if u turn ur front wheels exesively or overcorrect in a turn at high speed u r done, its better to have the rear wheel steer aswell so u dont overturn the front wheels only at high speed.Porsche make their cars to go fast n handle well, not parallel park.its simple car A is better technically than car B,i'm blind to badges so i look past them.
chris bangle designed the 2009 135i? i know he designed the 2004 3 series, and the 1 series was inspired by the 04 3 series. but i didnt know chris bangle was still around
Hey friendlyuser1, Porsche uses struts and you seem to praise them. BMW's also seem to make fantastic SCCA race cars and rally cars. The E30 M3 won Super Touring Car and World Rally many times and it had struts. To me, you sound like a guy who reads a lot of car mags and remembers technical jargon but has no idea what it means. Remember, car journalists aren't racers or engineers. They are nitpicky geeks that complain about lack of cup holders or no back-up cam on a sub-compact.
Billetede200: I own a 2002 M3 (K&N intake) with 6sp manual. I got into it with a bone stock, new 135i from a standstill and he stayed with me the whole way bumper to bumper. That car hauls!! However, BMW has had a lot of fuel pump failures on the new 135-335i -series so be aware of that. I've driven a new V-6 Camaro and compared to my M3 it was huge and FAT feeling, with terrible blind spots. I'm sure the SS model would feel much quicker on its feet because of the high output V-8
I'm really against Mercs, Bimmers and Audis because they're so common and boring. There are more Mercs and Bimmers where I live than Fords or VWs! However, this one kinda makes me lean towards the Bimmer out of the three. That's a significant car.
@danielsyoutin So are 5 star hotels but people who can afford them see the value in it where others cannot. No one has said that everyone must buy a luxury car. It's not meant for everyone.
@Lup420 You mentioned grammar. Have a look at your own post: You misspelled your attempt at 'what' and you didn't give it a capital letter. There should also be a capital letter on 'english' and one full stop after 'way', not two. Your attempt at 'god' should also have a capital 'G' and so should the 'I' in 'im' which should also have an apostrophe, as should 'dont'. You forgot the 'r' on 'gramma' ironically, I don't know what '>' is supposed to mean and you forgot a full stop at the end.
@werdupuboyee Part4: I mentioned the 4 wheel active steering was used in a Porsche,I was talking abt the 928,the best Porsche ever made. Every serious race car has a more expensive double wishbone setup as opposed to a struts, the double wishbone allow an immense number of possible modifications & alterations u cd do with some knowledge, thestruts r inferior, cheap, limited, mostly 4 small front wheel drive cars,& offer inferior handling.
135i is a great car and has everything you would expect from a sports coupe. I guess the only reason you wouldn't wanna get it is because of the limited room.
try to follow this time, struts vs double wishbone,if u've been near a car or know anything technical u'd knw which one is better performing, its simple,& every car review agrees with that as it holds technically. unless u push a car or take it to a test track u'd proaly not notice u'd actually like it as struts r geared 4 more comfort so amatuers love it.& if u can 'tune' a BM, u can also 'tune' a merc, its got a sports suspension,u wdnt know.again infiniti, merc c300>>>135
the Infiniti has 1.more power 2. more toys. 3. Bigger better brakes. 4. Better suspension (wishbone vs struts) 5. Better steering (4 wheel active steering, first introduced in the porsche 928) 6. It doesnt understeer. 7. Has a limited slip diff.I like my cars to have the best setup 4 active n sporty driving, the BM simply doesnt.Rich ppl either drive expensive cars or british or italian.1 series is niether.
ok, i dont know what you are smoking, the 135i is a great car. why dont you take you little civic and take it to the track against a 135i. then come and tell us if they still have the same suspension...... and my dad has a 928
2009 135i has nothing new but a new idrive system and heated steering wheel. there was two or more changes but i dont remember. overall, really not much change at all
search around u can probably get a damaged one for like 15,000 off i saw one for 30,000 it had hail damage but its only a couple thousand to fix it well its ur money do wat u want :)
would a tune change the suspension too, didnt know they did that. struts r simple, cheap, space saver more for comfort not handling, try to follow this time, this is what hes saying its tuned for comfort not sporty handling thats what iam saying technically. Struts r never a good idea when you want an ultimate driving experience like bmw advertise.thats false advertisement, yet retail sucker just lap it up coz of the badge. By the way a mercedes C 300 Sport sedan is cheaper than this too.

Bruno TaTa Be prepared for some pretty steep repair bills, which it WILL need. You can save a lot if you do the work yourself, but BMWs DO require a lot of special tools. If you don't do the work yourself, you'll want to find a good independent shop which specializes in BMWs, which could save you 50% (the dealers are usually a total rip). You'd think a company that advertises its cars as the ultimate driving machine would have a sportier, tighter handling. This BM doesnt, its technically not properly setup n u can see every reviewer say that, its a nightmare in the corners, n wait till u see ur tires afterwards, they'll be worn off unevenly! wats the point of a small fast car that doesnt handle good? You are not getting the best driving experience!

fantastic car. I test drove one this summer and was SHOCKED at its performance. It blows away the C4 and C5 Vettes Ive owned.
thank you!! finally someone that doesnt hate his styling themes
just purchased a 2011 today with a DINAN stage 3 tune! cant wait to launch mode.

I have to agree -- the 1er looks better than the bloated 3-series.
Bimmers are known to for great handling and their legendary inline 6 motors.I would argue they handle as good as the premier Japanese sport cars
I envy your ability to buy one so young.

Couldn't have said it better myself, If it wasn't for the engine, this would have been a really bad joke.
haha true!! the Infiniti has its strong points, but it will NEVER be a BMW
I drive an 08 version, im nearly at 40k :D
