    10 year old avast detecting all malware💀 absolutely insane. wonder what would happen to 2008 version of avast one- the really retro one

    A big misconception is that signatures can't detect new malware which is just not true. Signatures aren't just a list of hashes which get compared to the file, it's actually a set of rules which define certain strands of malware. That means old virlock signatures could possibly detect a new variant for example. That is how this worked combined with cloud protection possibly still working but I don't know if that's true.

  • @laurpflorin

    I notice that most of the detection were detected by the reputation / cloud scanner engine maybe. That is what it seemed to me. How about updating avast to latest definitions and repeat the test by disabling cloud shield or cutting the internet access to the VM ? and leave only definitions and heuristics on - that should be more realistic.

    • @EclypseeTech
      @EclypseeTech  3 месяца назад

      I'll absolutely do that the next time, I tested this with default settings and latest updates. If the product could still access the cloud reputation engine, then there's a whole new question on my mind. Is this really discontinued as Avast claims?

    Cool video, but didn’t it happen because you updated the signature db and all avast did is compare the sigs of public malware with modern db

    • @EclypseeTech
      @EclypseeTech  3 месяца назад +1

      Doubt so, the (online) signature database refused to update to newer then 10th of October 2023, and the support and updates for this product version (Avast 11) are discontinued. It was likely offline database and behavior blocking in action.

    pretty sure running multiple scan software at the same time can cause errors and false positives?

    • @EclypseeTech
      @EclypseeTech  3 месяца назад

      Doubt so, but depends. it can detect more false positives, but it can also not detect anything. The point is that you get multiple vendor coverage, giving you a better perspective and look into what type of files were missed or what made unwanted modifications.

      @ryudious Saying this type of stuff won't change anything by the way. I take criticism, but I simply don't understand what in "Bro has no idea how AV works... Lmao." Is mature or valid criticism of said content. All I did was a harmless experiment. Once again if you don't like it or think avast sucks, just don't watch it. It's that simple, you could leave out the beginning or said it differently and it would come across as 10x less toxic. Just advice for the next comment.
