I just did something similar about three months ago when I moved onto a small (admittedly slightly larger than yours at 32 ft) sailboat in the Pacific Northwest but feel an incredible sense of accomplishment after my first couple hundred miles. I've learned a ton about boat life and myself. It's an amazing adventure! Thanks for sharing your trip.
I agree, and when I have acceptable audio on the video clips, I use it. With GoPro footage though, this isn't often the case, so either music has to be added, or I have to keep talking.
I have to be careful answering that question, because if I answered it last year, I would have said I'd be half way across right now! But the plan right now is to be somewhere amongst the South Pacific islands by this time next year.

Sailing alone, it always felt strange to do live commentary like most other sailing channels, so I did very little of it. I do more and more of it these days, but it'll be a while before the videos catch up to real-time, and I can't change the footage I have from the past, so, for better or worse, it'll be a little while before that changes.

My draw to your channel is the fact that you are on a small boat. I have a Hunter 26 (my first sailboat), and just recently completed a 200-mile round trip of the Puget Sound. I also learned a ton during that sail. Hoping next year to add some miles to it and get up into the San Juans. Again, great channel!!!!
Tistan Jones sailed thousands and thousands of miles in a small boat with nothing but charts and a sextant. It can be done. But it is riskier than in a larger, heavier boat. Best of luck to you!
Indeed! There are many people that have done far more adventurous things than I, with far less to aid them. The way I'm doing it, in the age of GPS and global communication is like easy-mode compared to what they did.

I also like that you are truly sailing solo and seem to enjoy the experience very much and as you said in the video, you are only alone on the passage.. and seem to find lots of friends along the way. When watching the Intro and Episode 1, I noticed the time-lag. By that I assumed you had done all your research and practiced the modes of best delivery within your power. Secondly I realized you may already know anything I could offer, and redundancy is a simple-minded friend. So just grin and accept the success as it comes. Haha, no. I just never had time to sit down and edit video, really. There's a lot I don't know, and I'm learning every day. Just today, I was working on the engine and realized I made a very dumb mistake ~6 months ago that I get to pay for now. So, words of wisdom will always be appreciated.
I use Adobe AfterEffects to make my maps, but that's mostly because I use an Adobe CC license, and it comes with it. It's a very powerful tool, and I would say it's a bit overkill if you just want to make animated maps.
I'm looking to do the same but all I hear is you need an offshore designed boat above 34ft and spend a fortune in prepare and maintenance. Also all I hear is that you must be a well experienced sailor before you can consider crossing Atlantic or Pacific and a small boat is a disaster waiting to happen in rough seas. Are you the exception or am I listening to people who are super cautious. My potential budget has dropped in line with the stock market but my dreams and ambitions remain the same. I finished RYA Navigation and Boat Theory so am impressed that you could skip that knowledge and go straight to sailing, not talking about it. In short what are pros and cons of boat under 30ft from your experience so far?
Depends on the wind, waves, and current of course, but if I'm not surfing down waves, then the boat, because of displacement-hull physics, will max out at about 6kts, so that would be a 144nm day, but I don't often average 6kts. 5kts is typical for me, so 120nm. Anything around 5kts makes me happy. When I'm below 4 is when I star trying to see what I can tweak to make things faster.
I really hate you. You have way too much hair. It is really great to watch you (and the girls) have fun. I miss that area and can't wait to get back !!! Great job

Why do you tow your dingy all the time . You said that Tarka was a slow boat your dingy will knock one knot of speed off.
