I'd pick the MDX-S in a heartbeat over the others.
In Canada, the top of the line CX-90 is $25k less than the Type S and almost $10k less than cheapest TX
That is enough to not even make me shop the others. Why bother? Serious $$
Excellent. Thank you David.
We just purchased the tx. My wife loves it. And I like knowing that I shouldn’t be too concerned about reliability.
The MDX is extremely reliable too. We have a Pilot, which is related to the MDX, and it's extremely reliable.
It’s sad that the TX is the newest, and yet the least impressive in all of the metrics.
Except the metric of reliability
@@AH-bm4ts lol oh really, for something completely new
newest and ugliest haha
It is ahead on cargo and passenger space though and not by a small amount either. Those things matter a lot for some people. It also is likely to be the most quiet on the highway. Boring inside? Sure. Generic looking? Absolutely. But huge, comfortable, and should last a long long time, yes.
Dont be sad..
Great video on the acura, mazda, and the lexus three row SUV my question to you is if you have to choose toyota rav4 natural aspirated engine, mazda cx5 or cx50 turbo or natural aspirated four cylinders engine which out of the three vehicles would be your choice and explain why, looking forward for your answer stay safe thanks.
I can't wait for the day when cars like the Rivian and Model Y, both 3 rows, can be compared without prejudice. I'm in the market for all of these models and each had pros and cons
To be fair, the CX90 likely would have been an Amati flagship SUV (i.e.: MDX, QX60, GV80) if the brand wasn't nixed by Mazda back in the 90s.
I’m currently debating a CX-90 with the incline 6 or a used MDX Advanced with the 3.5l NA J series V6 for my next car. This was helpful. Thank you. Always enjoy your perspective and reviews
What did you choose?
Cx90 turbo is way better than the non type S versions of MDX... period
@@Raptors0524 still deciding. Haven’t had a chance or enough time to drive them back to back in the same day. I keep vehicles for 10 years so the MDX is likely to be cheaper to run that long due to a less complex power train. MDX does have freakishly light steering but it’s accurate. CX-90 has great steering just more complex drivetrain
CX90 for sport, MDX for comfort, both are great
@@mbenton6wrong, for sportiness, absolutely, for comfort, the MDX wins
Im starting to see the cx90's on the road and they are pretty awesome looking. You really cant lose with any of the SUVs. It's all about your personal tatse. With that being said, I think we are leaning cx90/70 probably 70 since we don't need a 3rd row that will never get used.
The one negative against MDX is that it’s timing belt driven, so a bigger maintenance cost 7 years into the future. But a nice looking car. I think Mazda looks great too, their interiors are awesome.
You’re right but a lot of the “lifetime” timing chains don’t last much longer than a belt and cost 2-3x as much if they need repair
What are your thoughts about the reliability of the Mazda CX90? It certainly looks stunning, which is what draws my attention to the CX90. However, I’ve heard that it has many minor issues, so I’m uncertain about the long-term reliability of the CX90.
David, thank you for your video. Since Mazda does not offer a premium version, I wonder how the 3 row SUVs would stack up if you compared the Toyota Grand Highlander vs Honda Pilot vs Mazda CX-90. I think the prices would be much more comparable. I believe the most smoothest ride & highest fuel economy would still be Toyota but I think it would be closer to apples to apples comparison.
Just a thought.
Toyotas drive like shit. Why would he compare the GH to the Mazda CX90 and Mazda just the the big brother. Make it make since
The MDX has already been revised with a touch screen. The issue has been remedied in the refresh. So that’s an out of date critique.
He acknowledged the change.
Mazda ❤
Another channel had a drag race of the three and the MDX Type S won, unsurprisingly. The Mazda is the budget winner, and the Acura the performance/luxury winner. The Lexus is the best for fuel economy.
Thats wasn’t a fair comparison but yes the base 280hp version of the CX-90 does lose to the MDX.
I haven’t seen a 340hp version against a MDX yet.
Ok, were talking fuel economy on 75k car 👍
@@LSR-YT21 the MDX Type S beat the CX-90 (340hp, I6 turbo) in another drag race video.
@@TheBreakfastLover do you have a link to it? Thank you 😊

Should have waited a couple months and compared using the 2025 version of the MDX which is much better.
One new color, new rims, front and rear fascia slight modification, better stereo system, & touchscreen. I would have liked to see a more potent engine.
@@paulcicero3862 Agreed....perhaps even a hybrid....but not likely in a mid-cycle refresh. They did address what folks complained the most about at least.
When are you going to release a video explaining how wrong you were about the Tundra engines?
What that guy said 😂😂😂
Would love a follow on comparing new Traverse RS
TX if you need to really use the third row or need max cargo space, one of the other two otherwise.
What are your thoughts David about the recall of 110k tundras? I thought you said they would last 1 million miles
Explorer ST?
David, I think the 'sport' in which CUVs most often compete is the sport of carrying people and stuff. As such, I have to give the prize to the CUV that comfortably carries the most while burning the least gas. 🤩🤩
Than go drive a CRV, spend little and you get a lot
Cross shopped all these. You pay more and do indeed get more with the mdx type s. Air suspension and power train give it more flexibility between luxury and performance. The sound system is miles better... if you want to pay the 3xtra cash you will be happy, but if you are really stretching you'll be happier long term with one of the others
Mazda is getting up their way to the luxury segment. How long will it take for people to realize that?
I have the top model TSPP in artisan Red
Where is the MDX, and CX 90 made?
Wondering why the X5 was not included. As the base model has 335 HP if you go for a hybrid X5 now you upto 385 HP. Surely the BMW X5 has agility and performance. 4cyl turbo does not drive like a turbo 6 Cyl. So while lexus may have a luxurious cabin, the engines performance is non existent.
I believe X5 is now two-row only in North America. Third-row option was dropped a couple years ago. I assume he wanted to compare three-row fullsize crossovers.
I wish the MDX had more power especially for the fuel mileage it gets.
If honda make the mdx rear wheel drive and timing chain then I might consider it next time.
I would like to see Honda making a 3rd row the size of sequoia or suburban and keep the 6 cylinder engine.
Odyssey
Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro simply the best
Nah...new turbo engine from Toyota... TOTAL BULLSHIT..... honestly
11:00 CX90 is underrated. MDX is a loser due to poor MPG and no hybridization; finally offering touch screen lol.
Poor MPG is a factor for consideration at 75k price point?
@@harrytejyes
@@harrytejheck yes!!!
2024 prefer the lexus❤❤
I think for me, the rear wheel biased drivability of the Mazda feels better than the front wheel MDX. Performance wise, MDX wins but Mazda wins the overall driving experience
trans calibration is not good on the mazda.
Mazda and Acura need to offer non-animal upholstery options. Many buyers will not consider animal skin interiors
That’s creepy. Animal skins are a byproduct. Plastic is made from oils. I like recycled products better. Warm, comfortable and conservative.
Many buyers…😂
Hi David,
Of the three vehicles that are shown in this video I have to go with the Lexus TX I like the conservative business look feel and experience from the vehicle…. in my opinion.🇯🇵🤍❤️
