Today we explored two castles in Fuessen Munich. It was Schloss Neuschwanstein and Schloss Hohenschwangau .It was King Ludwig 2nd and his dads castle. We took a horse carriage up to the castles. It was a stunning view over the German Alps.and the alpsee then we hiked up to the Marienbruecke where we had a fantastic view on both castles.the alpsee was stunning

Boy have things changed! Back in 1984, 1985 & 1986 there were no buses, we walked up the hill or took a wagon pulled by horses. Looks to be so touristy now. Sad… glad I visited when I did. Loved all the history of King Ludwig’s life, castles & death. Absolutely worth the visit. Visited often. ❤️
Totally worth the trip!!! I LOVED it!!! The relationship between Ludwig and Wagner is quite interesting. The bridge is amazing. Ludwig built Linderhoff.... Herenkimsee... (my spelling is off) Ludwig drown in the end.... mysteriously. I stayed the night at Lisle's Hotel. I saw a ghost at the foot of my bed there.... and I'm an incredible skeptical athiest. Great adventure I'll remeber forever

I was stationed with the 11 ACR in Fulda from 1990 to 1993. I went to the castle too and it was amazing!
We went to the castle on our honeymoon. My new hubby kept waiting for “the next town for cheaper accommodations”. Well, around midnight we stopped at a bar/restaurant and he went in and asked about a room while I stayed in the car. He returned with “I have good news and bad news”. The good news is we have a room but the bad news is it’s in a barn. We stayed in the converted barn. It was actually quite nice. We laugh about that memory every anniversary.

Beautiful countryside. I was stationed on Stuttgart in 1974-75 but I missed so much still. Loved the bratwursts and the schnitzels.

You are a natural youtube talent with a lovely sense of humor. For anyone watching this video, this castle is just a great sight in a great region. People are so obsessed with it, it's weird. If you can, explore the town of Füssen and go hiking or biking to really enjoy the region
I visited Castle Neuschwanstein in the Winter of 86 we rode a horse drawn covered carriage up the hill while drinking hot spiced wine. I do not recall it being that busy or any long lines. The castle is a marvel of it's time and today a must see.

I was there in 1999. They didn’t have the electronic systems so we had to stand in-line a long time to get into the castle. We were always told to keep up with the group. I really enjoyed the experience. As did my two children. It’s a trip we will never forget. Thanks for trip down memory lane!
I have been visiting Bavaria since 2009 and I finally made it to Neuschwanstein Castle in July (2023)… and it was worth it.

Don't go to Munich! Our hotel was next to a construction site that started at 7am sharp! Everything near Munich seems to be under construction.

Great tour of Germany! GIV!
I worked at Linderhof palace (near Neuschwanstein), also built by Ludwig II. I've been in Neuschwanstein a couple of times. And I can say, that the time slots and the strict photography and filming restrictions are for a good reason. Because of the castle is visitet by thousands or tenthousands of people every day - every little delay causes massive jams in the rooms behind the current tour. So, you have to be on time with or it could cause problems an delay up to over one hour for the last tours to start. 😉
And yes, I totally share your opinion on how fake Neuschwanstein looks if you are closer to it 😅 Looks most amazing from the distance only in my opinion 🙂
Personally, I like Hohenschwangau more.
Also, if you are around in the area next time - visit Linderhof palace. Also worth every penny 😊
So in the meantime, they can earn more revenue with those timeslots.
Ludwig built 3 castles. Guess he was bankrupting the Bavarian treasury, so they put him away.

That is so magical and incredible I have slides and video from 1965 when I live there when my father was in the America Army I wasn't old enough to appreciate It fully and can Remember most of it it's incredible I want to go back these videos sure beat Venice that's for sure

I loved Neuschwanstein, Mad King Ludwig's castle. I visited there several years ago. Bavaria is perhaps one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Was there in 1984 and slept in a beautiful hotel in Fussen. The Neuschwanstein castle guide said Ludwig drowned in the lake. So sad😟 also that he was Bavaria's favorite king.
