Apologies, I don't like leaving negative feedback but... I couldn't finish watching this because the two-camera thing was making me feel sick. Why am I teleporting all over your room? It's disorienting and unpleasant. Please just use one camera - we're absolutely fine with jump cuts, we don't mind them at all.

Hi, I bought one of the first MFB Dominion 1 from Thomann, back in 2013: One VCO sounded ugly compared to the other VCO's from day one. It was sent back for repair to Thomann. After a long wait and several e-mails it came back, with letter saying that Thomann technicians had fixed the problem. But the faulty VCO still sounded ugly. I e-mailed both MFB and Thomann, to complain about this. Manfred Fricke himself answered me, that Thomann never sent the unit to MFB, and that only MFB themself do service and repairs on their products! He payed for the transport to germany, repaired a faulty connection, and sent the unit back to me quickly 🙂And I still have my lovely Dominion1 after 10 years ❤

This years service experience with Thomann: Ordered an Hydrasynth Keyboard which was damaged during shipping. After sending it back due to the bent bottom plate they shipped me another unit. This time the main encoder on the Hydrasynth was damaged, I complained about it and sent this unit also back. Thomann refunded me the money in one week. In total, both cases were not Thomanns fault and the service was ok for me.

Funniest experience with a music instrument store in Cologne: Ordered rack ears, received one. CS guy: Oh well, you need to order TWO, didn´t you know? Which was funny, because the pics showed two as a set and I´ve bought a number of rackmount kits over the years - they always come as a pair. So after some more minutes of discussion and being treated like an idiot, I just hung up, redialed, went to the synth guys instead of CS and things were resolved in 5 mins.

What did Thomann do that Behringer doesn't like them anymore? They used to be the first to have new Behringer synths, and the cheapest, this changed dramatically. I was waiting for the blue MS-1 for 2 years, now it is available at Music Store Cologne for 333 Euros and Thomann still only has the old red model for 349. The JT-4000 is flying at Andertons, Thomann: in 8 weeks.
    very strange

The local musicstore here doesn't have a website, but has good service.
However it keeps to the recommended price for any synthesizer product and cabling and doesn't give any promotions at any time of the year. Once I brought in a wore-down djembe to which the store owner agreed to lower the price of my next buy. He did not, and I haven't been back since, nor do I intend to.
I now buy my synths second hand and if needed, have these serviced at an expert store instead and still have a cheaper deal. Whenever I see something (second hand or new) that I like at that expert store, I can easily trade in one of my own synths and pay the difference, or get the difference refunded. I see small music stores dissapear over time, as the owners can not keep up with the technology, or aren't willing to add some water to the wine to appease it's customers.

The behringer service is worse than retailer service if you imagine. They made me reiterate my issue over and over and over again, and each time it was clear they hadn't even read any of the prior information I supplied to them. At no point was I able to get them to admit the unit was faulty even though it was clearly faulty, and all the videos that I sent them demonstrated the fault. I had to go through my retailers service department. If I had to go through Behringer, I'm not sure that they ever would have addressed the issue because they wouldn't even admit that it existed despite my repeated attempts

I bought a keyboard that was wrongly labelled on the Thomann website. The feature I wanted was USB midi which my unit didn't have. I raised a ticket for return. While the service was good, the return process was practically flawed because I had to drop off to DHL - they don't have a great service in UK and only certain locations accept the type of return Thomman offer. In the end I had the unit in the car with me for a week while I found the right kind of DHL. Also I was out of pocket. All in all a dissapointing experience.

Since the Phaser does not come with it's own power supply, maybe this is/was the problem? In one of the reviews on the Thomann page someone mentioned that if you use the wrong power supply the device will not work correctly. I have a hunch that the cheap one they give us with all of their smaller synth do not work well with the device otherwise they would probably have shipped it with one since the "pedal" is not exactly cheap.

I live in Denmark and have used Thomann several times. Had no RMA issues yet, but their delivery is alrways promptly and very fast delivery if the items is in stock. Only issue, wich is not completely Thomann's fault beside that they just dump all small items in to a big case , is that they use UPS which handles packages very bad. Each time I ordered something there is big holes in the outer packaging and once there was even a hole in a case inside holding a Presonus rackmount interface. Luckily there were no dammage to the items, but the holes in the outer casing was big enough that small bags with XLR and Jack connectors "could" have fallen out. I do like that Thomann promises 3 year waranty on aImost all tems beside software and accessories.
I do however miss having a local dealer where I can try out things before buying, but those times is over. All we have left herre is small stores that primarily sells accessories.
I remember once having an issue with a Roland D-70 that suddenly inside a menu wrote Japanese characters in the Menu. I contacted Roland Denmark and they got someone to investigate the problem. A week later they called me and said I was the first to have gotten so deep in the system and they had found the culprit and Roland had issued a firmware update and all I had to do was to get my local dealer to send the keyboard in and get the firmware updated.

Thomann have been rather good in general, I bougth Behringer in-ears (the ones with dual drivers) and something came loose in the left piece, so some rattling but otherwise works fine. Seems Behringer had instructed them to give me a second pair which had the same issue, I gave one to my GF and I was happy enough since this was clearly a manufacturing defect since Behringer stoppes making them and Thomann selling.
Then I bought a pair of Thomann made speakers, Swissonic T204, which were fine except the auto power-off function often came back online from sleep with only the tweeter amp working and with all the power of the woofer amp so it was horribly loud. Had to return those like 5 or 6 times until I had a pair that worked perfectly and it did take many videos showing the problem and emails to convince them there was a problem which was frustrating, but in the end everything worked out.
Now I'm waiting for a reply about my BARP 2600 Blue Marvin which had some defect that made a terrible noise in the spring reverb, crossing my fingers that it'll work out fine but we'll see. I made sure to document the problem on video before I sent it and I then sent them the videos.

If it comes back "repaired" and is still broken, I want an exchange or a full refund. Sometimes you just get a bad unit. I don't trust "repair" departments. Too often they either don't have a knowledgeable person on staff or that person on gets the "difficult" stuff. Sweetwater was probably the best store I dealt with when I had issues with gear. I exchanged a mixer twice and then just got a refund. It was the 90s and it was way too noisy for the specs.

If they were trying to reproduce (maybe not lying to you even)... Then did they've tried the same synth setup? If they should... I'm not sure but actually the only big difference between synths and guitars is that a synth (usually) has an AC-coupled output (a 1-2mF cap in series). This thing in a schematic "kills" voltage offset. AC (usual sound waves) passes through and a DC signal can't go though. If a signal is not DC-coupled then potentially it can damage something... Or less - it just will be higher than a normal level thus can produce an overdrive.
I don't know why is that phaser screeching it seems like a horrible feedback or a small cap's oscillation. Actually feedback is a kind of an oscillation )) I'm not strong in this topic, to be honest.
But a cap oscillates especially because of a feedback in a schematic. It's how a usual resonance filter works.
Could they somehow forget that they're assemblying a phaser and soldered some spare cap in it thinking that it's a fancy filter clone? )))
Another moment (not sure if it's bigger) is that usually a guitar and a synth has different output levels. If a phaser expects a sound from a clean electric guitar then it will be "waiting" for a low input. The input impedance will be pretty low then (if they're not relying on an internal amplifier heavily).
Synths usually produces buffered sound. This means that on an output it has an op. amp configured in a "buffer" state. It gives "impedance matching". If it has no buffer and a phaser has no buffer then AFAIRemeber it can be bad.
Most likely in your case it's a bad cap somewhere or a parasitic capacitance which gives this horrible sound. Maybe I'm wrong...
BTW, did you've asked your friend to test this pedal with a guitar?
P.S. Behringer's support sucks! It's a well known fact between users. I still has a Neutron that I can't update (it needs that specific connection and etc.). I've tried everything (before a manager started to "help" me) that was on their forum but it was useless. Probably it's just my PC config... But you know what? I've asked them to sent me a .hex (compiled!) file of the new firmware so I could upload it like people do for any STM32 based gear and 3d-printers... They've didn't wrote me something special about that... They've just ignored this request!
I've didn't asked for a firmware code or something that could "show their underwear". It's just a bloody .hex file )) I know what I'm talking about because some guy did a custom Neutron's firmware with cool features. And he did shown how it's easy to upload (by a usual USB cable). His firmware lacks of MIDI-USB functionality unfortunatelly...

Thank you for such a detailed comment! I also think that finding the faulty component in such a case is not easy and time-consuming. I'm also only an amateur solderer and in old gear, usually always the same thing is broken like power supply caps etc. All the best! 🤖

@@winesynths As a quickie you can just run the signal through a non-polarized cap (before the phaser of course) and check if it will help. Or even make a simple buffer circuit on a breadboard (will need a 9v battery and careful connections).
Not sure if anything of these will help. It can be really a faulty radio-part in this unit. Then they can lie and not confirm the problem. Maybe they've even didn't opened it.
In any other case just make a simple "glue checker": place a smallest hot glue drop in a case's gap (if it has it). They will remove this drop if the case will be opened.

This is what I was anticipating would happen at times. In the US, I've bought almost all of my Behringer equipment from Sweetwater, a few things from Thomann with no problems with any of the gear so far (2-years running with most of it, used almost every day, turned on all day). Knock on wood!
Sweetwater generally has a two-year automatic warranty with all products bought on their site and in their store in Fort Wayne, Indiana (I live close by). This is of course from memory, but their policy is generally replacement of any faulty gear within the warranty time. All this said, I don't expect too many issues from my Behringer equipment since it's never going on the road, never likely to be played live, and I am fastidious about keeping things clean, keeping the dust levels down.
This is a fair rant. I know the sinking feeling of having to talk with representatives over faulty electronic gear, so I don't think your feelings about it and conclusions are unsound. It surprises me that they couldn't recreate the problem on their end, not sure what that means! As far as I've seen, their dual/bi-phase has been advertised as usable with any electronically-abled instrument. We have yet to hear any news from Sweetwater on it coming out here yet, or the PRO-800. The Taurus clone is available, and that's about it for their new product rolling out this year. Great rant. I'm know to rant extremely well, according to my niece.

What I like least about the thomann store is their catalogue, for example they have the ugly moog grand mother with those clown colors and they don't have the black version that seems to me the prettiest of moog grand mother and matriarch.
I can cite more details of those that I do not like about Thomann with the behringer brand, they do not have the blue or black MS-1, only the ugly red color and with TD-3 they also removed colors from their catalog, it is really annoying that they have products uglier than before.
Because when the sound is good and everything works, you want to have a nice piece of equipment to play with a lot of satisfaction and that is what has been happening to me lately with Thomann.
Thomann has good customer service, they are good at their job, but lately they only offer the most horrible things on the market.
I have the behringer dual-phase pedal and it works very well with my instruments, drum machine and minimoog it works as I would like it Lee Scratch Perry.

@@winesynths Yes, but the offset is what counts, because without the offset there is no phaser. (it's a bit of humor)
I understand that there are products with factory faults or like my Moog Model D, I get home with only 38 working keys when there should be 44, I returned the unit and they fixed it with a keyboard change, I no longer have problems and it's like a war tank.
Behringer is not moog, but moog uses chinese stuff in their flagship reissue products that's why you pay china tariffs on usa products, and they can fail as much or more than a cheap korg, behringer, arturia thing. There is no brand that gets rid of these defective units, there is always a bad one.

Numpties are everywhere, regardless of the company. Interestingly in their own official video Behringer demonstrates this "guitar pedal" with the same VC340 vocoder you used it with... ruclips.net/video/cEEA1uxTmSE/видео.html
I feel your pain though. Every time I sit on the phone with one of the aforementioned numpties I can't stop thinking that with time being the most valuable thing in the world, in this day and age customers should be compensated for their time wasted. Also, instead of the lengthy repair procedure that might cost more than the value of the product they should automatically offer a replacement within the warranty period.

I have been shopping with them for nearly a decade now and enjoy the overall experience so much that I prefer using them over any local retailer here in the Netherlands.
I've had a handful of RMA situations over the years all of them handled quite promptly and to satisfaction. However I did run into a service desk employee once that managed to insist for quite a few email exchanges -- and two telephone calls -- that I was using the wrong Allen wrench to adjust a truss rod on a guitar I bought from them. Yes, there's always one. That said, it all got resolved in the end.
ps. I get the frustration though -- having worked in the service industry for some years -- intermittent issues are THE WORST for both parties involved.

The store of choice is local simply because they try harder. THEN THEY DO NOT DEAL WITH Behringer in the first place so if I choose to deal with Thomann it is my choice and my headache. Take it or leave it as I see it. Don't get me wrong I would like that phaser too and there are software alternatives in the meantime...One main concern for me though is where the hardware was made and that is what keeps me away for the moment. I do not fancy some countries because of their lack of standpoint for human rights. Some could buy a particular wine made anywere, some can't because it wont be particular. This is pure bashing. I've had somone repairing a device free of charge even if it was way out of warranty time and I only bought it on the used market, and he only was asking (not even demanding!) if I would be OK with paying for the shipping back to me. Other repairs also went very well, with free shipping labels and free repair even if I wasn't the original buyer. And then others asked a very fair price for out-of-warrenty repairs of devices I got from the second hand market (oh yeah, I like the 2nd hand market, obviously). Also Thomann always offered a good solution very quickly to me whenever there was a problem (I already bought a lot from them). And also in this case Thomann finally offered just to take back the device past the return window. They are human after all so one should allow for mishaps. At least they really care about the customers. You gotta try to deal with airlines ;)
