the direct translation is more or less
Aerith going “Don’t worry Tifa, we have a superb bodyguard with us, don’t we”
while Tifa is actually scared-she later hides behind Aerith when the Ghoul Boss Fight pops up LMAO
(in one of the art books I think it’s stated that Aerith is holding Cloud’s arm like they’re a couple going through a haunted house while Tifa is genuinely afraid and clutching onto him)
The context isn’t THAT much different but personally I don’t like it because there’s a lot of other instances in the game (and the rebirth trailer) where the English dub takes liberties like this (in my opinion, it’s to push the love triangle for more marketing, but that’s my opinion, I could be wrong)
yeah some of English dubs are pushing the ridiculous love triangle which is just absurd really pisses me off lol
Based on my years of being a weeb I can kind of tell when the translation is different/odd but I hate that I have to do that
To be fair, Aeriths body language and her reactions do kinda point towards that so the developers intended for it, it's because she sees Mr. Z in him (without getting into spoiler territory)
As far Translations go, yh tough luck we're way beyond that point they don't even call it Translation no more it's "localisation" now, meaning everything is changed to the point that characters aren't even themselves no more.

I know. Besides Its a whole ongoing issue in the western translation side of things. Thankfully young me recognised this issue back in the 2000's and taught myself Japanese. I'm good👍🏻

I'm actually so glad that people are finally picking up on this. I've been saying it since the 2000's but no one ever took me serious until now. Thanks to few mainstream RUclipsrs more and more people are becoming aware and yeah your absolutely right. What's been said (in JPN) vs what's subbed is a day and nights difference.

Dude trust im so glad i can understand japanese. I swore off English subs and dubs in the 2000's. To much politics & propaganda, heck they don't even call it translation no more it's "Localisation" because they know that you know your not getting what the developers intended.
