- A Durban police officer has made headlines for all the right reasons - for a change. Over the weekend, Sergeant Silindile Masondo was seen working at the Ntuzuma police station with a toddler strapped to her back. As it turns out, she was looking after an abandoned child until social workers were eventually reached. eNCA senior reporter Dasen Thathiah speaks to her about the experience. #enca #dstv403

Back home this is my next door neighbour, we are so proud of her in our community. When we have water problems she even phones local businesses which then organise water tankers at their cost. I can confirm she enjoys helping people in need and gets along with every community member. Her mother was a Sangoma that the community loved and called Mother as she was helpful and always making us laugh. They are good people

@ RastaAfricanGentleman well white officer was charged for posting with uniform and apparently is not allowed for the officer to do so according to the law of South Africa. I saw our own black police officer pictures posing for the camera in police station wearing uniform. So my question is are we going to see the same female black officer charged? I will tell you why I am asking that
@ RastaAfricanGentleman I also didn’t know it was a crime to pose with police uniform. Now that media brought this to my attention I wonder how is this applied because I have seen many police officers pose in uniform and holding guns sometimes including soldiers. Media had to report on the matter because it was a white person the victim and I strongly believe if it was a black person then we wouldn’t know but he would have been charged too.
@ RastaAfricanGentleman if the white officer story was not on newspaper I wouldn’t know this is a crime. This applies to the soldiers and I had to search and find all that information

@ NamhlaKamnqa I am asking because just last week someone was charged and mind you if you can ask most police officers how many cases similar to this one come to their desk. The question is why she found it necessary to post herself with the baby and showing off with what is expected from her as the officer. This is not new ask any police officer how many cases did they handle of lost or abandoned babies. Ask them if they post about the baby.

3:08 Left at the police station (dump is such a harsh word). The child was left at the police station by someone who probably wanted them to have a life they could not offer them!
Dump is the perfect word to describe what the mother did bcos the act itself is very harsh

I can only imagine if I left my 2 year old at the police station with no hope of coming back that’s just painful on another level, not saying it was easy on the mother cause no one knows why she did that, our lives are not the same but she looks healthy you can say she was loved

Authorities always say if ppl abandon their kids at a policestation, hospital, firestation, clinic or baby box they would face no charges. It better than those dumping them in drains, rivers & the side of the road. In a better world we would have no abandoned babies but we live in this one. The economy is tough, many moms are on drugs so we are going to see more abandoned kids. We need to look at how we can support these kids.

Acts of kindness like these rsally needs to be applauded as a Police Official myself that man lied the Social workers are very difficult to find and besides who can sit 4 to 5 hours with a wet,dirty and hungry child while waiting for Social worker we are also mothers and we know exactly how to take care of the kids we also do that a lot in our Police srati9n but we never really made a video of it
