- Welcome Aboard VA! We want to finally share with you our new floating home for real. It's been a couple months since we have fully move aboard our new boat and now feel like its time to show you the whole boat.
Here is our walkthrough video of our Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran. We do a little comparison between our old Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 and the Helia 44 models, and why we ultimately went with a little bigger boat.
We are thrilled to welcome you aboard VA and show you around!
Thanks for following the adventures of WE!

You guy's Are amazing people. Dude you are a great Carpenter, mechanic, Electrician and it all and the most I'm impressed with is your coffoe table 👏 A-1 brother, and your wife is awesome 👌. I believe she can let you sleep and she can sail that catamaran wherever she wants to go, since I've been watching your channel she has learned so much besides being the best home maker there is. So on that note I just wished I could be able to do what you two can do..so please keep on keeping on guy's and sending out the content that you do it's great love you two!!!
Wow!! Man we LOVE getting comments like this- it truly keeps us going!! So Barry, thank YOU!! We have some really special stuff coming up so stay tuned!! Cheers brother
Bigger is better. Haha! Love the new boat. Stars definitely aligned for you to help get her.
Your new water craft is so so very very groovy. It was nice to see you on a boat that you weren't doing repairs on. It's about time. Stay groovy and stay safe.
Haha it was nice to make a video without work in it!!
You are so lucky your house floats!! Awesome! Looks like Better Homes and Gardens/Architectural Digest on water.
Oh guys, it was so disappointing to see a couple of comments that were just vacuous nastiness. I hope they don’t even slightly impinge on your day. Your vids are such high quality and your lives so interesting that my wife and I really look forward to watching them every week. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful boat with your excellent vid skills. I’m so glad you are delighted with VA. A beautiful boat deserves appreciative owners.
Wow Tony, not sure what to say other than thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Seriously! We do get a lot type discouraged from time to time but it’s honestly messages like yours that erase all the negativity and really keep us going! Thank you for that, very very much. Cheers bud
rad layout.
Tough life, sailing around the world to all the beautiful places most people can only dream about on a boat that's nicer then most people's homes.
Ya it’s been pretty awesome, we are blessed beyond even our wildest dreams, and never take this for granted
Love the whale shark pillows!
Thanks so much, Erica actually designed the prints, then had them printed and sewed them herself!!
Thanks for the tour. Always enjoy your videos. You both are delightful!

Love that boat!!
Thanks Eric
Thanks guys, I've been waiting for this tour. We are chartering a Helia 44 out of Loreto in May. It's nice to hear what you think about it. I'm pretty excited now. Thanks again.
Hey Marc thanks man, glad you have gotten to experience this for yourself, hopefully more of that in your future :)
I wanted a Fontaine Pajot years ago when I first got interested in sailing, and I definitely still want one! Lol love it guys, keep it up!
Loving your new home! Excited for you guys!
Thanks very much!!
Congrats & love the new boat! Fair Winds...
Hey thanks Jim!! Much more coming :)
You guys are great at making videos, you are always going on great adventures, you put consistent videos and you are great story tellers. You should have so many more subscribers.....Did I mention Erica. Anyway you should have more subscribers than the top 3 sailing channels......you got my vote.
Haha thanks Darrell, man really appreciate it!! Cheers man, we have a lot more coming up!!
Awesome couple in an awesome boat! Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. Keep it up.
Very cool if you to say, really appreciate it!!
It's a beautiful boat. I sailed on one two weeks ago. And thank you for this video. Specifically for the shots of your master cabin. In January I was on chartered 4-cabin Helia. Nice. I also have a Seawind on order. I was wondering if maybe I shouldn't get that in 4 cabin version, use one as a workshop..... two minutes into your video I now completely understand. Your master cabin is absolutely gorgeous, really nice and roomy.
btw the hydraulic steering on the Helia we chartered out of La Paz, Mexico, had a huge problem. The repair guys said it was the seals in the hydraulic ram. They couldn't fix it. Made steering really difficult. If you slowly turned the wheel and the rudders would never change. The only way to steer was to give the wheel a hard yank and then yank it back just before the boat reached the new heading. (Autopilot worked fine). (btw if by chance someone reading this chartered that same boat and suffered with that steering tell Dream Charters to give you your money back. It should've been fixed before they sent us out on it. I'm sure it was bad the week before - our boat was changed at the last minute. I wouldn't be surprised if it's weeks or months before the problem is fixed.) tip for you guys: Carry a set of those ram seals and learn how to replace them.
It is nevertheless a beautiful boat, easy to sail.
For the mainsail traveler I'd replace what they have with a single-crank back-n-forth one (don't know what they're called). There's just a bit more fussing that I think there should be and if you do it wrong (which I almost did) you could get hurt.
re: the inside table. The Helia I was on had a full table. Definite plus. Because so much of the 'furniture' in a catamaran (foam and veneer) looks like Ikea I have the idea for my Seawind to get a piece of that lightweight structural foam, get some really nice veneer (birds-eye maple?) and make my own table (or hire someone who can make something really amazing.) Looking at photos of other Seawinds, clearly I'm not the first one to have this idea. I think it would really set off the saloon of any boat.Your table solution is really smart. I'd round those corners, even a one inch radius I think you would definitely notice how much 'friendlier' the table would be. (The Seawind had a table with two fold out leaves, this means I'll have to veneer two sides - no problem, but when folded open there will be 'missing' wedges where the curves meet - I don't see a problem.) I'd also insert a curved solid wood edge all the way round so it's rounded and more comfortable.
On the side of the settee near the steps to the starboard hull? Put in a side rail. It can even swing a bit out of the way. A couple of times people sliding out that end started to tumble down the steps. A single rail that would pivot out of the way would remind the person of the drop but also keep them from falling down the stairs backwards.
& I loved the night I slept on the top deck in my sleeping bag liner. Be good to have ties on the liner and on a pillow so they don't blow away.
I'd put handholds on the sugar scoops to make getting in and out of the dinghy easier. I'd also put them on the hull steps. (I prefer stairs that can be made easier and safer when you can use hands and feet.) I've been in situations where I've seen people repeatedly reach for handholds that weren't there, but should've been, pointed it out, and was then dismissed by the person who'd just been reaching for them - 'nah, not necessary.'
"Size matters BABY!" "Does it?" "NO!" "Okay, good!" LMAO You guys!!
Love the new boat. Looking forward to seeing where she takes you guys.
Until our adventures cross...

Well another great video, I really like the detailed explanation of the boat. You guys are living it up and living free.....enjoy it! Looking forward to more videos!
Awesome thanks so much!! Lots more to come
Love the new boat and congrats! Warren, I'm like you do a little exploration and find out where you can make more storage out of areas which were previously covered up... Looking forward to the new adventures!!!
Awesome Tom, thanks very much!!
Hey WE, thanks for your great walk through of your new sailing vessel. It’s an awesome ride. Love the expanded room and features. Happy Happy Happy for you 👍🇺🇸😎...
Awesome glad you liked it!! Cheers
Congrat ! Love from France.
Hey Christophe!! Really appreciate it man!!
Absolutely beautiful!! ♥️Cant wait to see all the good times y’all will have on VA.
WOW! The rainwater collecting system is so cool! I would love to know more about that thing!
Thanks man, we show it in a lot more detail very soon
Also I love that name, Pascal! Do you know the famous French scientist/mathematician? He’s one of my favorites
@WEsail Thank you so much! Yes, I know Monsieur Blaise Pascal. I'm from Switzerland and we are neighbors of France - I've known him since I knew what numbers were invented for... And yes, he is of course one of my idols!
Glad you're lovin' you're Helia. Been on our for a few years now. Your catchment setup is brilliant. Thanks for sharing that. If you're amenable sharing more details, would appreciate more details on the specific components used and if you have any pics of the setup under the mast step and water tank area that would be much appreciated! I found you through the FB Helia owners group. I suspect other owners would appreciate seeing your good work! I've already mentioned it to my FP contact as a wonderful idea for a a factory option on the new boats. Cheers, Jeff & Debby sv Making Memories
Where did you get the Octopus bookends? Love em!
Thank you! I actually found them on wayfair.com
Fantastic looking cat! What's the headroom? I love the working desk with the monitor!
Some feedback: Use a super wide lens (like a GoPro) and give some comments.
fantastic! do you have a movie or pictures of the Lipari and Helia next to each other just to see how different they are in size?
Curios what do you do with the sewage and also the water from dishes and showers? Thanks. Love your boat!
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Stephen!
Love the videos. Congratulations on the new boat. I’d love to see how the reefing works on Helia. We’re chartering one in puerto Escondido in April.
Man we are so Happy for ya'll. Love to see your rain Catchment System. How it works and how the filtering system works.
As you remember here we Catch all are water. (25,000.Gallons of Storage)with three filters and a UV light. The best water I have ever had.
It looked like your Washing machine was a good size. How much can you wash at a time?
Love what ya'll did with the set(T) in the Salon! That is just plain Genius! Now can it also be a place to sleep or rest for Those long or overnight Passages?
And is it or did ya'll or have ya'll gone to Lithium batteries yet?
Ok we are so Excited for ya'll. Looking forward to seeing more!
Ok until next time Aloha from your friends on the Big Island 🏝of Hawaii 🏞🍹! Aloha!
We are looking at buying a Helia 44 owners version as well and wanted to know if you have your asymmetrical sail measurements from Precision sails? We have ours from Provision sails that we bought last year for our 41’ monohull with our logo and wandered if we could use it on the Helia?? Loving your videos and the fun you had with the Parley gang and Delos! Happy new year guys!!
Love all the upgrades. How did you know where to cut the floor?
* - not an evolution.
Love your new boat, she is beautiful and I look forward to watching you sail. One question, what is her name? I just can not figure it out.
We all can see how visibly excited yall are about your new boat and it is beautiful. How does the cruising speed on the engines compare to the old ones? Fuel usage a little more or about the same since you could run at lower rpm? I am an electrician so hearing about the solar system i really enjoyed and all of the other systems as well. Now lets get those scuba tanks out and go explore....
Ya Jeff thanks man- the motors do use a little more fuel (3/4 gal per hour vs. our old boat at 1/2 gap per hour) but since we are motoring at a slightly less rpm I would have to guess it’s about the same… cheers bud, thanks for watching and commenting
Like the rain collection setup, but doesn´t the deck have a lot of salt on it from time to time?
For the water catcher, remember that the first few minutes of rain will wash the dried salt spray off the decks, you definitely dont want to catch that salty water. Perhaps a manual/electric valve to control water tank access ??.
Haha I love it- great minds must think alike- we did add a bypass valve that shuts off flow when the deck isn’t perfectly clear and clean!
So....did y`all have a fallin out with the crew of SV Wolfhound? I noticed a faraway video of the farewell, and absolutely no mention of them anywhere.
Congrats on your new Helia 44. We are SV Eventually Hull#63. We decided we would search the world for the right Helia 44 and that would be where we would start our live-aboard adventure …which ended up being Turkey!! We have been watching with great interest your additions and modifications to SV VA especially the new found storage. We were particularly interested in the issue of your unfurling jib furler as we have the identical problem. So we were a little disappointed when you gave up on it and went swimming instead (which is exactly what we did). Did you come to any solution or conclusion on the furler?
Well hi and congratulations!! We went about the same plan when looking for a boat and it was actually very close to starting right in your same area as the first boat we looked at was in Montenegro!! But as it worked out we passed on that one and found ours in the Caribbean… anyways, very soon I am going to put together a quick video on all the additions that I have done, some of which we have yet to mention! so it would probably be particularly interesting to people like you with similar cats!! And yes in a few videos I show how I fixed the furler… she’s as good as new now but I’ll be very honest, it was a nightmare job! I did not end up having to take the rig apart, but man, what a tough, dirty job! It would be difficult to explain thoroughly here and since the video is coming out shortly I’ll hope that you can wait for that? If you’re in a pinch and really need some answers, please feel free to email us directly and I will see what I can outline and maybe send some photos! Cheers you guys!
@@WEsailthanks for taking the time to reply and the offer of pictures. We are fine for now and will look forward to the video. Cheers!!
Just to for your information. The naked guy was still there in November 2022 when we were sailing form La Paz heading North. 😀
Love the rain water collection Idea, do you have a bypass for when you wash the boat with soaps etc?
Wow you’re good!! Yea we sure do, it’s super slick on this one too!! I have a video detailing the installation and whole system coming up soon! Cheers
Hey was going to ask the same question, but my take was what happens when the tank is full and you need the bypass so you don’t flood out.
Great new boat guys.
I can't wait for you to start doing long runs to places. I am glad i found your channel and really enjoy the videos. thanks for the tour. Do you plan on any long runs again this year?
Hi hi again!! Thanks so much for being so good with your messages and questions! Yes actually we definitely have a LOT of movement coming up (mini spoiler alert) we are right now getting ready for our pacific crossing (3-4weeks at sea) but we are about two months behind on videos so be patient, they are coming!

@@WEsail great sounds good thank you
Hello Warren and Erica. Hey Warren do you have any plans for your hings and top that you made for your coffee table? I would like to do something like this to mine.
Hey Robbie!! Ya I do have some plans and I’d be glad to get them to you… for one miiiilion dollars haha haha haha just send your email and I’ll send some :)
The 2015 Fountaine-Pajot Helia that we chartered had a 120V/240V electrical panel above the cupboard that is above the two-drawer referigerator. In your videos, I haven't seen the panel . Where is the AC electrical panel located on Va?
Ya you know I have seen photos of other Hellas with that up there, and what we have is a pretty simple breaker panel that’s down in the starboard engine compartment… really not sure why some have it and others don’t?
Hi there. I have concerns about the veneered wood. It is of poorer quality than solid wood because the coatings can come off. What is your impression of the interior quality with regard to the wooden parts?
Ya I share those concerns but here’s what I have learned- most veneers are not made of natural wood so they are quite resilient to the harsh marine environment, but what is susceptible and needs careful preparation is the wood underneath... hope that helps, love the comments and questions!!
@@WEsail many thanks for your answer. Interesting it is not natural wood. This takes me to a deeper research about these materials. Thank you so much. Appreciate that.
Hi,
Love your vids, Do you tie down your scuba bottles while underway.
Thanks
Bobby.
Hey Bobby!! No not on this boat, they lay so snugly where we have them!
Awesome videos guys as always. Quick question: What are the widths in meters of all 3 beds you have in the 3 cabins?
Many thanks
Hello WEsail, I bought a Foutaine Pajot Elba45. Delivery in May 2022. I wonder about the sails. Do you think it would be useful to install a small genoa or a special sail for heavy weather? We see this on catamarans over 45 feet, and as we are going on a long trip, I think it could be very useful. Your opinion as a sailor please? thanks in advance. Good sailing and enjoy your videos. Christophe.
Oh well CONGRATULATIONS!!! Man so exciting!! Well glad you asked- the answer is a little complicated, and as I’m not aware of your planned routes I can’t speak for everywhere on the globe certainly, but the sails that come with the boat are quite robust actually and should last you years, even in heavy weather from time to time (you just have to take care of them, mainly making sure to avoid strife/abrasions/wear points/etc, and most importantly reefing on time!!!) that being said, like a lot of long range sailors, we carry a “storm jib” that is used for 40+ knots of wind (something we have yet to experience). The last thing I would say is that you will likely experience far more light wind days then you will heavy weather days, so my recommendation is to invest in low wind sails prior to worrying about needing any heavy weather sails (again, the factory sails will weather most conditions)! We have used our more than any other sail on the boat, and again, I don’t know where you plan to sail but these light wind sails can be very used in a wide variety of conditions! We have used (and loved) both a pure downwind sail called a ParaSailor, and our current sail, a basic asymmetric spinnaker which is especially useful because it can be flown anywhere from dead downwind (180 degrees apparent wind) to just forward of the beam for a “close reach” as low as 70 degrees apparent, so really quite versatile!! Hope that helps!! Feel free to ask as many questions as you want!! Cheers!
@@WEsail Thank you very much for your detailed answer. The program will be more in the Guadeloupe area, West Indies, Caribbean, etc.. The question of squalls and therefore to be treated. For the strong and very strong wind I will continue my research. The opinions are very different. To be seen ... I will keep you informed. For light wind I know the D code well. I have it on my current Sun Odyssey 440. Super efficient with 115 square meters of surface, and tenable up to 15 knots. You can easily go up to 50 degrees of wind. That being said the code D is limited for "true" downwind from 160 degrees. I will look at the parasailor. Your life and stories are inspiring. And congrats on all the DIY on board. Cool! Hope to see you soon and enjoy. PS: sorry for the mistakes, I translate with Deep because I have to improve my English :-)

How fast is the heila 22:09
It’s NOT fast lol, not ours anyways- we average about 5, as fast as 8-9 in PERFECT weather
Have I missed the part where they explained the meaning of the name Va? Another great video from a talented couple. Love from the Maine coast
Hey hey Les! Sorry we didn’t explain it, should have now that I think of it. VA means let’s go in spanish.
@@WEsail Thanks so much. Love you two!
@@WEsail french, too 🙂
I am very interessted in the hinges you made for the coffee table in the saloon. Would appreciate, if you could send me some infos about that.
Greetings from Leros, Greece
Evelyn and Roland Witsch
Wrote you some more infos on FB messanger...
Ok we will absolutely send you some info!! Also our email is wesail.world@gmail.com
New boat is good, when you guys making sailing to Mediterranean Sea?
Hey thanks! We are generally headed in that direction but have a long way to go, so it’s gonna be a few years
Congratulations that’s a wonderful catamaran ⛵️🐳🍷🍷🦋💖🐬🐬🌸 we hope one day you can make a wonderful adventure to Australia 🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🇦🇺🐬🦋⛵️🐳🌸
Hey Paul thanks man!! And we have good news- we ARE on our way to AUSTRALIA!! It will be a little while still because of all the wonderful islands along the way, but we are coming!!
Does the intro song say to “go jump around in the forest”?
Haha not sure- now going to listen more closely LOL
Where is the dive compressor?
Do you have a water heater? I assume you do but curious.
Yep sure do- it’s small but it works off of both the motors and electric, so anytime we motor or anytime we have good sun (solar) we can have hot water :)
How do you afford this lifestyle? Could you make a video regarding the cost of sailing? Thanks for sharing what you do. Fair winds and much love
Hey Steve you bet glad to share, we get the majority of our money from a rental home that we have back in Colorado that gets us just over $2000/mo. We have also started earning a little from RUclips now so that’s exciting for us, but ya it’s the home that really allows us to travel like this. We do have a video on how we afford to travel but it’s several years old now (but still very relevant, in between episode 58 & 59) AND have wanted to put together another one about the costs that we have encountered over the last 4 years (also touched on during that other video)
Thanks for watching and commenting
woah. 142 episodes deep?
Erica you looked exceptionally nice at the Va q&a! What was that guy's name sitting next to you? (kidding)
Haha oh he’s nobody :)
generator ?? a friend who circumnavigated in the 1990's had a lever attached to the engine block with the alternator mounted on it - when they needed ac power for the washing machine or dryer the lever would be swung over and locked down so the the alternator ran on the engine pulleys - depending on fuel usage you might be able to get a weight saving
Ya if the boat hadn’t of come with one, I don’t think I would have bought one…
Some haters here big time. Love the Helia. Looking for one preferably a evolution owners version
Ya the Helia is still our favorite boat we have been on! Good luck, your boat is out there!
Been looking. Market is crazy RN hoping it settles down some. Definitely love your upgrades and will steal some of your ideas 😂
Hope you are having a great time cruising. Question? Do you run your rainwater through the water maker? I hope I have enough money to buy a 40-foot trimaran. I can't sleep much anyway while riding so maybe planning trips right. Maybe i could learn to sleep working at it and maybe the help of some sleep aids. I could have much higher speed even if sailed conservatively. There's not many of them around and might end up buying a new one like the Dragonfly 40 or the Rapido 40 and a house with a dock on the water. The whole world is fixing to open up. Trump said one time he wished everyone else had the same chance he had and i think he meant it by what is fixing to happen but i don't want to discuss it publicly.
Hey well good luck of course, hope it all works out for sure!! And no, the water goes through several filters before entering the holding tanks so it’s good to go, we outline the whole system in an upcoming video, so stay tuned :) cheers
@@WEsail That's great thanks for the answer to my question.
Gosh that looks nice! -- QUESTION -- This is going to sound weird, but for some reason, if I am honest, I want to NOT like Catamarans and to prefer sailboats. Not sure why tha tis, but I want to like sailboats more than Cats and we are fighting the "get a Cat" syndrome. Sailboats were like our first love and our dream was to get a sailboat to go around the world and now there is this new thing called a Cat that is messing it up. So weird.
Love your videos but a 50 sec intro, come on
Understand, thanks for the feedback, we do appreciate it!
Did she always have those unsightly tats ?
She, as in Erica? Yes, that’s her name. And that’s your comment? What’s so unsightly about them?
@@WEsail don’t bite at the troll. Keyboard warrior living a dull life. Ignore and move on: nice boat (for a cat😉), lovely wife, great life. You’re winning….
Thanks Ben!!
so boring bye
✌️
Boat “TOURS” have to be the biggest lame azz waste of time for any sailing channel. If I want a boat tour I’ll go to a marina. Sorry. But. It’s the truth.
I disagree. I enjoy seeing how different people have outfitted their boats. Gives me ideas for my boat.
👍👍👍👍
