Düşünce - Vagif Mustafazada

Düşünce can mean "thoughts" in Turkish. It feels to me that the composer was, indeed, lost in thoughts, and perhaps, memories, as the piece unfolds. Vagif Mustafazadeh, also known as Vaqif Mustafa-Zadeh, was a Soviet-Azerbaijani jazz pianist and composer, acclaimed for fusing jazz and the traditional Azerbaijani folk music known as mugham. According to many world famous jazz musicians, Mustafazadeh is one of the pioneers and "the architect of jazz in Azerbaijan".
I am fortunate, here in the USA, to have friends from many countries. In fact, the way I discovered Mustafazedah was after a discussion with an Azerbaijani born US immigration attorney at a reception following a benefit in which I played with some Ukrainian friends in a benefit concert for victims of what happened in Maidan Square. So sad to see how things have deteriorated since then.
And so, a need for #respite, and a chance to provide it with some music.
Offered as a bit of #respite to a troubled World and a Prayer for Peace - not just between the Azerbaijanis and the Armenians, but for all of us.
